If you already own the digital horror game, the fastest PS5 route is Games home > Game Library > Your Collection. Select the game, choose Download, and monitor it in Downloads/Uploads. The game installs automatically, although some titles let you start playing while the remaining content installs.
The phrase “the horror game” does not identify a particular title. Search the exact game name in the PlayStation Store, then verify the listing for your country before buying or downloading: availability, price, edition contents and subscription access can differ by region.

What you need before downloading
A digital PS5 download requires two basics:
- An internet connection.
- The PlayStation account that owns the game, or the account you will use to buy it, signed in on the console.
PlayStation’s PS5 Quick Start Guide states: “To purchase and download games, you’ll need to connect your console to the internet and sign in with your account.” That requirement applies whether you are buying directly on the console, redeeming access already associated with the account, or starting a remote download.
If you are unsure which horror game the title refers to, identify its exact name first. A genre description cannot determine which product to download, and similarly named games can have separate Store pages. Have the full title, subtitle and intended edition ready before you select a result.

Confirm the account before you start
Ownership follows the PlayStation account that completed the purchase or redemption. If several people use the PS5, note which profile paid for the game. Signing in with a different profile can make an owned game appear absent even though the transaction succeeded. The same account must be used when checking the library, transaction history and remote-download options.
Find the correct horror game in the PlayStation Store
Search by the exact title
- From the PS5 home screen, open PlayStation Store.
- Use the Store search and enter the game’s exact name. Include the subtitle if it has one; many games have similarly worded titles.
- Open the result and check that the platform, edition and product description match the game you intend to play.
- Review the price and access method shown for your region. The listing may represent a purchase, a subscription entitlement or another form of access; do not assume that a horror game is included with a subscription.
The Store listing is the authoritative place to confirm whether that particular game is currently sold or available in your country. Availability and pricing are product- and region-specific, so a listing seen by another player may not match yours. Check the page displayed for the account’s country rather than relying on a general claim that a title is available on PS5.
Check the product details before buying
A single franchise can have a PS4 product, a PS5 product, a cross-generation option, deluxe editions, upgrades, bundles and separate add-ons. Read the product description and identify exactly what the purchase grants. Confirm that the listing includes PS5 access if that is your requirement, and distinguish the full game from an add-on or an upgrade.

If you have not bought it yet
Complete the purchase shown on the game’s Store page while signed in to the account you want to use on the PS5. Wait for the transaction to succeed before attempting the download. Afterward, the game should be associated with that account and available from its game library. Keep the receipt or transaction record; it is useful if the game later fails to appear or if you need to distinguish a completed purchase from a pending or canceled transaction.
Download an owned digital game directly on PS5
Use this route when the game has already been purchased or redeemed on the account signed in to the console.
- From Games home, open Game Library.
- Select Your Collection. This view contains games associated with the current account.
- Find the horror game and select it. If the collection is large, use its search or browse controls to locate the exact title.
- Choose Download.
- Open the control center and select Downloads/Uploads to view progress.
- When installation finishes, select the game from Games home to start it.
PlayStation describes this procedure in How to download your games and add-ons from PlayStation Store. Installation is automatic after you start the download. Depending on the game, an initial portion may become playable before all content has finished installing. If an early-play option appears, the remaining files still need to complete before the installation is fully finished.

Your Collection filters the library to items tied to the signed-in account, so it is more reliable than searching the home screen for an icon that may not have been installed. A game that was purchased but never downloaded can be present in the collection without a tile on Games home. Selecting it there creates the download request and starts installation.
If the game was bought on another account, sign out and use the purchasing account before checking the library; ownership follows that account. If the transaction was completed recently, check the account’s transaction history before repeating a purchase. Rebuying is unnecessary when the original entitlement is valid.
Start a download remotely
You can queue an owned game from the PlayStation Store website or PlayStation App instead of navigating the console. This is useful when you are away from the PS5 and want the installation request waiting for you when you return.

- Open Game Library > Purchased.

- Choose Download or Download to Console, depending on the interface.
The PS5 must be connected to that account for remote downloading to work. Automatic downloads also need to be configured on the console; otherwise a remote request may not begin as expected. The console still needs an internet connection to receive the files, and the request must be sent from the account that owns the title.
When remote downloading is useful
- Use it when the game is already purchased but you are away from the console.
- Use the console’s Downloads/Uploads screen later to confirm that the request started and to see its progress.
- If the game is not listed under Purchased, verify the account and transaction before sending another download request.
- If the request does not begin, confirm that the PS5 is linked to the same account and that automatic downloads are configured.
Check progress and first launch
On the console, open the control center and select Downloads/Uploads. The entry shows whether the download is waiting, active or complete. This screen is the best place to verify that a request actually started, whether it was paused, and whether installation has finished.
A game may display an early-play option while the rest of its files install; that option does not mean the entire installation has finished. If you choose to play early, leave the download entry in place so the remaining content can complete. After the installation completes, return to Games home and select the game tile. If the tile is not visible, open Game Library > Your Collection and launch it from there.
Do not start a second copy of the same download while the original entry is still present. Check its status first; duplicate requests can make it less clear which task is active and do not solve an account or service problem.
If the horror game is missing from the library
Work through these checks in order. Each one addresses a different reason an owned title may not appear.

Check the profile currently signed in to the PS5. It must be the account that completed the purchase or redeemed the game. If another household member bought it, their account is the one to check first. Use that account’s transaction history to confirm that the purchase succeeded rather than remaining pending or being canceled. A receipt or transaction record can help identify the correct account and product.
2. Look for a hidden game
A title hidden from the library will not be obvious in the normal collection view. Unhide the game, then return to Game Library > Your Collection and search again. Hiding changes its visibility; it does not replace the ownership entitlement.
3. Restore licenses
If the game shows a lock, is missing even though the transaction succeeded, or is not recognized as available, restore licenses for the account. License restoration refreshes the console’s entitlement check; it does not buy the game again. After restoring licenses, return to the collection and try the download again.

4. Check the Store product
Search the exact title in the Store while signed in. Confirm that you are looking at the same product and edition that was purchased. A similarly named sequel, add-on or alternate edition can make an apparently missing game look like an ownership problem. Compare the title, platform and edition details with the transaction record.

5. Verify regional availability
If you have not completed a purchase, the title may simply not be offered in the account’s country, or the available edition may differ. Check the current regional Store listing rather than assuming that another region’s page applies to you. The title’s availability, price and subscription status cannot be determined from the genre description alone.
If the download will not start or stalls
Pause and resume
- Open the control center.
- Select Downloads/Uploads.
- Highlight the stalled game download and choose Pause.
- Wait briefly, then choose Resume.
This refreshes a download that has stopped responding without removing the game entry. After resuming, watch the same entry to see whether its status changes to active.
Cancel and retry
If pausing and resuming does not work, cancel and delete the pending download from Downloads/Uploads. Then return to Game Library > Your Collection, select the game and choose Download again. This creates a new download request rather than repeatedly restarting the same stalled task.

The entitlement remains associated with the account; you are removing the incomplete delivery request and creating it again from the library.
Check service availability
When a retry also fails, check PlayStation’s service status. A Store or network service interruption can prevent authentication or delivery even when your account and console are configured correctly. If service status shows a problem, wait for the service to recover before repeating the purchase or download.

Digital download versus a disc

The PS5 Quick Start Guide explains that disc play requires a disc drive. If your goal is to download a digital copy, follow the Store and library steps instead of inserting a disc. A disc and a digital entitlement are different access paths, so do not expect inserting a disc to make a digital library item appear.

How to choose the right Store result
Because no specific horror game is named, use this short verification checklist before selecting Buy or Download:
- Exact title: Match the full name, subtitle and developer-published product page.
- Platform: Confirm that the listing includes PS5 access if that is required.
- Edition: Check whether the item is the standard game, a deluxe package, an upgrade, an add-on or a bundle.
- Access type: Determine whether you are purchasing the game or using a subscription entitlement.
- Region: Verify the price, availability and terms shown for the account’s country.

Do you need extra equipment?
No special accessory or additional product is established as necessary for this procedure. The official instructions require an internet-connected PS5 and a signed-in PlayStation account. A generic recommendation for a console, storage expansion or download accessory would not answer the basic question unless you have a separate, confirmed equipment need.
