Sign in to the retailer account used for the purchase, open Orders, Purchases or Purchase History, select the transaction, and use the available receipt, invoice, order-summary, print or download control. If the order is missing, search the confirmation email and check other email addresses, accounts and guest checkout. The exact labels, retention period and tax-document options vary by retailer, country and purchase type.
What you need before searching
Have the details that can distinguish one transaction from another. The most useful are the approximate purchase date, items or seller name, delivery address, payment method, order number and the email address used at checkout. If you bought through a marketplace, note the marketplace account as well as the individual seller.

- The likely login: Try the email address, phone number or single-sign-on identity used when you paid. A different account can make a genuine order appear absent.
- Email access: Confirmation messages often contain a direct link to the order, even when the account history is difficult to search.
- A secure place to save the file: Decide whether you need a PDF, a printed copy, or both. Avoid saving financial records in a public or shared folder.
- The document purpose: A return, warranty claim, reimbursement, bookkeeping entry and tax filing may require different information. Determine whether a normal receipt is sufficient or whether a formal tax invoice is required.
Retailer interfaces change. Treat names such as “Purchase History” and “View details/print” as examples of the controls to look for, not universal labels.

- Open the store or marketplace and sign in. Start with the account that probably placed the order. If you use more than one account, make a short list and test each rather than assuming the first login is correct.
- Go to the order-history area. Look for Orders, Your orders, Purchases, Purchase History, Transactions or a similarly named menu item under your account profile.
- Search or narrow the list. Use a retailer’s date filter, search box, order-status filter or page navigation when available. Search by the item name or seller if the interface supports it. If there is no search control, work backward from the estimated date and open likely entries.
- Open the transaction itself. A list row may show only a short summary. Select the order number, item, “Details,” “View order” or an equivalent link to expose the complete record.
- Choose the strongest available document. Look for Receipt, Invoice, Order summary, Print, Download or Print invoice. Some retailers provide a PDF; others open a print-friendly page that you can save as a PDF from the browser’s print dialog.
- Check the contents before saving. Confirm that the document shows the purchaser, seller, order date, items, quantities, prices, taxes, shipping charges, discounts, payment information and order number when those fields are relevant to your purpose.
- Save and name the file consistently. A useful name is
YYYY-MM-DD_store_order-number.pdf. Keep the original file unchanged and make a separate copy if you need to redact information for someone else.
Do not assume that opening an order automatically creates a tax invoice. A page may be only an order confirmation or payment receipt, and the formal invoice may be supplied by a seller or offered only in certain countries.

Receipt, order summary and tax invoice: what is the difference?
Retailers use these terms differently, so identify what the document proves before submitting it to an employer, warranty provider or tax authority.

If a tax invoice is required, follow the retailer’s country-specific instructions and read the document’s fields. Etsy, for example, explains that invoice steps vary by location and by whether the purchase is physical or digital; in some cases it directs the buyer to contact the seller for a tax invoice. An ordinary receipt should not be described as a tax invoice unless it contains the information your authority requires.
If the order does not appear in the account
A missing order is usually an account or checkout issue rather than proof that the purchase record was deleted. Work through these checks in order.

Search for the retailer name, seller name, “order confirmation,” “receipt,” “invoice” and the item name. Search spam, junk and trash folders as well as the main inbox. Etsy specifically advises checking other email accounts and looking for the confirmation message. Open the order link in that message; it may take you to a record that is not visible under the account currently signed in.
Test alternate accounts and sign-in methods
You may have used a different email address, a phone-based login, a social sign-in or an account created with a work address. Sign out completely before testing another identity. A retailer can maintain separate histories for accounts that use the same physical address or payment card.

Consider guest checkout
Guest orders may not be attached to the account you normally use. Search the confirmation email and follow its order-management link. If the retailer asks you to verify the order, use the email address and order details from that message.
Check the marketplace and the seller separately
On a marketplace, the marketplace history may show the transaction while the seller controls the invoice. Open the order’s seller or contact options and ask which party issues the required document. Keep the marketplace order number in your request.
Allow for different order types
Pickup, delivery, shipped, canceled, refunded, subscription and digital orders can appear in different tabs or filters. Clear status filters and widen the date range. A replacement or split shipment may have a related order number rather than the number in the original confirmation.
Check retention limits
History is not necessarily permanent. eBay’s reviewed help information says its purchase history contains orders from the past seven years. That is a statement about the named eBay page, not a retention promise for other retailers. If an older order is outside the displayed history, use the email archive or contact support rather than assuming every retailer keeps the same period.
Retailer-specific paths and qualifications
Walmart
For Walmart online pickup, delivery and shipping orders, open Account → Purchase History. Select the purchase, open its details and use the available view-details or print control. The resulting page is the practical route to a printable order record.

Walmart also describes a receipt-lookup process for certain in-store card purchases. That process asks for the store location, purchase date, card type, last four digits of the card and receipt total. It is a separate in-store lookup and should not be treated as a general method for recovering an online invoice.

Etsy
Open Purchases and reviews to see orders associated with the signed-in Etsy account. If an order is absent, Etsy advises checking the confirmation email, spam and trash folders, other email accounts, another Etsy account and whether the purchase was made as a guest.
Invoice availability on Etsy depends on location and purchase type. The service describes different steps for physical and digital purchases, including print options in the United Kingdom and European Union and invoice-viewing options in other locations. If you need a tax invoice and the available document does not meet that need, follow Etsy’s direction to contact the seller. Verify the current instructions for your country because the path and legal requirements can differ.
Amazon UK
Amazon UK’s help guidance covers printing or downloading an invoice or order summary from an individual order. Open the order, choose the invoice or order-summary control and save the resulting document. For a Marketplace purchase, the help route includes requesting an invoice from the seller. Do not assume that the Amazon UK steps or seller obligations are identical on another country’s Amazon site.
eBay
eBay’s purchase-history help page states that it contains orders from the past seven years. Use the order-history view to open the relevant transaction and inspect the available receipt or order details. If the seller, rather than eBay, must issue a formal invoice, use the order’s seller-contact route and include the item, date and order number.

How to download or print when there is no download button
Some retailers provide only a browser page. On a computer, open the order details and choose the page’s Print control or the browser’s print command. In the printer destination list, select the option to save as a PDF, choose a folder and confirm the file name. On a phone or tablet, use the page’s share or print command; the exact location differs by operating system and browser.
Before closing the page, check that all pages are included and that totals, tax lines and order identifiers are readable. If the print preview omits a section, return to the order page, expand hidden details and try again. A screenshot can document what you saw, but a retailer-generated PDF or print view is generally easier to verify and archive.
When you need a formal tax invoice
- Identify the country whose tax rules apply and whether the purchase was physical, digital, domestic, cross-border, business or personal.
- Read the retailer’s invoice instructions for that country. Look for seller legal name, address, registration number, invoice date, tax rate and tax amount fields.
- Open the individual order and inspect every document option, not just the first receipt link.
- If the retailer identifies the seller as the invoice issuer, contact that seller through the order page. State the order number, purchaser details required on the invoice and the reason you need it.
- Keep the request and any reply with the order record. Do not alter the original invoice; create a separate copy if you must obscure personal information.
Location-specific instructions matter. A document accepted as proof of purchase for a return may still be insufficient for reclaiming tax, and a marketplace order summary may not replace a seller-issued invoice.
What to include when contacting support
Contact the retailer or marketplace after checking the account, email and guest-order possibilities. Provide enough information to locate the transaction without sending unnecessary sensitive data:

- Approximate order date and total.
- Item names, seller name and delivery or pickup type.
- Email address used at checkout, stated through the retailer’s secure support form rather than in a public post.
- Last four digits of the payment card only when the support process requests them.
- The exact document you need: receipt, order summary, seller invoice or tax invoice.
Never send a full card number, security code or account password. If support cannot find the order, ask whether it was placed as a guest, attached to another account, split into multiple orders or removed from the visible history because of a retention policy.
Saving and organizing records for later use
Use one folder per calendar year or business project and keep the retailer’s original file name in a note if it contains a useful identifier. A simple index can record the order date, retailer, order number, total, tax amount and file location. This makes a later warranty claim or reimbursement request faster without opening every PDF.
Keep records in at least one protected backup location. Use device encryption and a strong account password, especially when files contain addresses or payment details. If you share a document with an employer or repair provider, remove unrelated orders and redact payment information that the recipient does not need.
Common failure modes and fixes

When a retailer cannot provide the record
Preserve the evidence you do have: confirmation email, payment statement entry, delivery notice, return correspondence and seller messages. These may establish that a transaction occurred, but they do not automatically substitute for a tax invoice. Ask the retailer what alternative proof it accepts for your specific purpose and record the response.
For a return or warranty claim, the retailer may accept an order number or purchase confirmation. For reimbursement or tax work, the receiving organization may require a dated receipt or compliant invoice. Tell support the purpose so it can route the request correctly, while recognizing that its retention policy and local rules control what it can issue.
