Why the Epic Games Launcher is required
The Epic Games Store website is primarily for browsing and purchasing. Epic says your personal game library is not viewable on the website, and that downloading or managing owned and claimed games requires the Epic Games Launcher. A browser login therefore cannot substitute for the Launcher when you want to install a title.
The Launcher is also where installation folders, download status, updates, filters, and game launching are managed. Install the current Launcher for your computer, sign in, and use its Library page for the steps below. Labels and placement can change between Launcher releases, so a button may not appear in exactly the same position on every version.

This distinction helps narrow down the first troubleshooting question: are you trying to locate the game in the Launcher, or only on the website? The website can help you browse the store and review purchases, but Epic does not provide a view of your personal Library there. If you have already signed in on the web and cannot find a Library page, that alone does not mean the claim is missing. Open the Launcher to check the account’s games and manage the download.
What you need before starting
- The correct Epic account: the game must have been claimed on the account currently signed in.
- The correct sign-in route: if the account was created or previously accessed through an external login such as Google or Facebook, try that provider’s sign-in button rather than entering a separate Epic password.
- A compatible computer: confirm that the game supports the platform and operating system you are using. A title available for one platform is not automatically installable on every other platform.
- Storage and a stable connection: the installation directory needs enough free space for the game and any updates. Large downloads can also be interrupted by sleep settings, network changes, or security software.
- Launcher access: install and open the Epic Games Launcher if it is not already on the computer.
Think of these as separate checks rather than interchangeable requirements. An account can own a game even if the current computer cannot run it; a compatible computer will not show a claim made on another account; and a valid account can still have a Library view narrowed by filters. Identifying which condition applies saves time before you start changing installation settings.
How to download a claimed game
1. Open the Epic Games Launcher
Start the Epic Games Launcher and sign in. Do not rely on an Epic Games Store tab in your browser; the web store does not display your personal Library for installation management.

2. Open Library
Select Library in the Launcher’s navigation. This view lists games associated with the signed-in account, including titles that are not currently installed.
3. Search for the title
Use the Library search field. Epic’s support guidance says partial words are accepted, so try a distinctive part of the title instead of relying only on an exact full-title match. Check spelling, punctuation, subtitles, and editions if the publisher lists more than one entry.
If the first search returns nothing, try a shorter but distinctive word from the title. A partial search can catch a title even when you have forgotten its full name or entered only part of it. The goal at this stage is simply to locate the Library entry; if you find multiple editions or similarly named entries, check which one corresponds to the game you claimed before installing.
4. Remove filters that hide uninstalled games
If the game does not appear, inspect the filters before assuming the claim failed. A filter set to Installed shows only games already on the computer; clear it to include uninstalled titles. Reset other genre, platform, or custom filters and refresh the Library view.

This is especially important if you claimed a game but never downloaded it. An installed-only view is not a complete list of entitlements; it is a narrower view of titles already present on the device. Clear that filter and any other active restrictions before drawing a conclusion from an empty search.
5. Start the installation
Select the game tile and choose Install. The Launcher will ask where to place the files. Select an installation directory with sufficient free space, review the path, and confirm. The download begins after you accept the installation prompt.

6. Launch after the download
Wait for the download and installation to finish. Epic’s installation instruction is: “Once the download is complete, you can click the icon to launch the game.” Select the game icon in Library to run it. The first launch may perform additional setup or request permissions from the operating system.
If you only need to know whether the download is complete, check the Launcher rather than the store website. Installation and launch are the final steps in the same process: start the download from the Library entry, allow it to finish, then select the icon to open the game.
What to check when a claimed game is missing
Work through the causes in this order. It separates a display problem from an account, compatibility, or entitlement problem and prevents you from repeatedly reinstalling the Launcher without checking the underlying reason.

The order matters. Start with visibility because it is quick to check and does not alter the account or installation. Next confirm identity: an otherwise unfamiliar or empty Library often points to a different account or sign-in route. Only after those checks should you focus on compatibility or whether the account still has the relevant entitlement. Those last two are different problems: compatibility concerns whether this device can install the title, while entitlement concerns whether the account still has access.
Fix Library visibility problems
Clear the Installed filter
The most common false alarm is viewing only installed titles. In Library, remove the Installed filter and apply the all-games view. A game claimed months ago but never downloaded will not be present while an installed-only view is active.
Reset every other filter
Genre, platform, favorites, collection, and custom filters can narrow the results without making that limitation obvious. Return each filter to its default or all-items setting. Search again using a short, distinctive word from the title.

Refresh the Library after changing filters. If the list remains stale, close and reopen the Launcher, then sign in again. Epic’s missing-games guidance also recommends restarting the Launcher and clearing its web cache when normal refreshes do not update the account view. A cache reset makes the Launcher rebuild temporary web data; it does not erase a valid claim.
Use a refresh or restart after removing filters so you are checking the updated view, not the same stale list. If the problem remains, clear the Launcher’s web cache using the current Epic support instructions. These actions address a display or cached-data problem; they do not restore a refunded purchase, an expired temporary build, or a code that has been revoked.
Check whether Library is hidden
Launcher settings can hide Library navigation. Open the Launcher settings and look for the option that controls whether the Library is shown. Re-enable it, return to the main window, and check the account’s Library again. The exact settings location can vary with the Launcher release.

Verify that you are using the account that made the claim
Epic claims belong to an account, not to a computer. Sign out and compare the email address or account identifier shown in the Launcher with the one used when you claimed the promotion or purchased the game.
If you originally selected an external provider such as Google or Facebook, use that provider’s button on the sign-in screen. Creating a second Epic account with the same personal details can produce an empty Library that looks like a missing-game problem. After signing in through the correct route, return to Library and repeat the partial-title search.
Do not assume that seeing your usual display name proves you are in the account that claimed a particular game. Check the account identifier and remember how you signed in when you made the claim. If you have more than one possible account, test the original sign-in route rather than continuing to troubleshoot filters on an account that may never have held the entitlement.
Check platform and operating-system compatibility
Some games are published for specific platforms or operating systems. A valid account entitlement does not guarantee that the game can run on the device in front of you. If the title appears in Library but cannot be installed, read its store information for supported platform and operating-system requirements, then compare those requirements with your computer.
Do not treat a console, mobile, or other platform entitlement as an automatic desktop license unless the game’s listing explicitly says so. Likewise, an operating-system version that is too old or otherwise unsupported can prevent installation or launch even when the title is correctly claimed.
Compatibility is most relevant when the game is visible but the installation path is unavailable or the title will not run. If the title is absent altogether, first rule out account identity and Library visibility; platform support does not explain why a game is missing from every view. Keep the diagnosis tied to the symptom rather than treating every missing tile as a device problem.
Understand the difference between a free claim and temporary access
Permanent free-game promotion claims
Epic says a game claimed during a free-game promotion remains in the account’s Library permanently. “Free” describes the price at the time of the promotion; it does not mean you must install during the promotional period. Once the claim is recorded on the correct account, you can normally download it later through the Launcher, subject to the service’s access terms.
In practical terms, claiming and downloading are separate actions. The promotion window determines when you can claim the offer; after a successful claim, you do not need to have downloaded the files during that same window. If you cannot find the title later, check the account and Library filters before assuming you missed the installation deadline.
Beta, preview, and press builds
Beta or press versions can be time-limited. They may disappear or stop downloading after the access window ends, even if you once saw them in the Launcher. Such access is different from a permanent promotional claim, so clearing filters or reinstalling the Launcher will not restore an expired build.

When the distinction is unclear, consider how you received access. A public free-game promotion claim and a limited-time beta or press build do not carry the same expectation of ongoing availability. Confirm the access type before treating a missing entry as a technical fault.
Entitlement situations that can remove or block access
Refunded purchases
When a game purchase is refunded, Epic says access is removed. The title may therefore vanish from Library or become unavailable to download. Check your transaction history and refund status before attempting technical fixes.
A game purchased as a gift
A game bought for another person is not a personal entitlement for the buyer. Epic’s current English-language support page says a gift purchase is marked Gifted to under the item in Purchases transaction details. Use that field to determine whether the transaction was intended for someone else’s account.
This check is useful if you remember paying for a title but do not see it among your own games. A transaction can show that you bought a gift without making the game part of your personal Library. Review the purchase detail rather than relying only on the fact that the transaction appears in your account history.

Epic lists fraudulent or otherwise revoked retail codes as another reason access can disappear. If a redeemed code was revoked, contact the retailer that supplied it; reinstalling the Launcher cannot recreate a revoked entitlement.
Limited-time access
Time-limited beta, preview, or press access ends according to its terms. Confirm what type of access you received rather than assuming every appearance in Library represents a permanent license.
These causes call for different next steps. A filter or stale Library calls for a visibility fix; a wrong account calls for a different sign-in; a refunded purchase or temporary build is an entitlement issue; and a revoked retail code points back to the retailer. Sorting out which category fits is more useful than repeating the same install attempt.

The Epic Games Store EULA describes software as licensed rather than sold. It also says that, in rare cases, software may be removed from the store and become unavailable for further download or access. A permanent free-promotion claim therefore should not be interpreted as an unconditional promise that every title will remain downloadable forever under every circumstance.
This is an exception-oriented warning, not a reason to avoid claiming games. Keep installers, saves, and settings only where the game’s terms and technical design permit, and remember that an account claim still depends on Epic’s service and the title’s continuing availability.
There are two points to keep distinct: Epic’s stated rule for free-promotion claims is that they remain in the Library permanently, while the EULA also allows for rare cases in which software is removed and further download or access is unavailable. Neither statement means that a routine filter problem cancels a claim. If the game is simply not appearing, complete the account and visibility checks first; reserve the availability exception for the less common case described in the license terms.
When the Install button is unavailable
- Title visible, no Install control: remove filters, open the game’s details, and confirm that the device meets the listed platform and operating-system requirements.
- Install starts but stops immediately: verify free disk space, choose a writable installation folder, and restart the Launcher.
- Download repeatedly pauses: keep the Launcher open, prevent the computer from sleeping, and test the network without a VPN or changing connection. Resume from the game’s download panel after connectivity returns.
- Download completes but launch fails: restart the computer, check the game’s requirements, and allow the Launcher and game through the operating system’s security prompts when appropriate.
- Library remains empty: stop troubleshooting the disk and recheck the account identity and sign-in method first.
If none of these basic checks explains the problem, return to the symptom and its category. A visible game with no install option suggests checking the game’s supported platform and operating system. A title missing from the list suggests account identity, filters, hidden Library navigation, or a stale view. A known refund, gift purchase, time-limited build, or revoked code is not something a different installation folder can fix.
A complete recovery checklist
- Open the Epic Games Launcher, not just the Epic Games Store website.
- Sign in to the account that made the claim.
- If necessary, retry the external sign-in route originally used, such as Google or Facebook.
- Open Library.
- Search with a distinctive partial word from the title.
- Clear the Installed filter and reset every other filter.
- Refresh the Library, then restart the Launcher if the list is stale.
- Confirm that Library has not been hidden in Launcher settings.
- Check the title’s supported platform and operating system.
- Review Purchases for a refund, a Gifted to marker, or other entitlement information.
- Determine whether the access was a permanent promotion claim or a limited-time beta or press build.
- If a retail code was revoked, contact the retailer that issued it.
- Once the title is available, select it, choose an installation directory, and click Install.
- After completion, select the game icon to launch.
Follow the list from the top rather than jumping immediately to a reinstall or a new download attempt. The first steps establish that you are in the right place and account; the middle checks separate display and compatibility problems from entitlement issues; the final steps install and launch the game once it is available.

The website is for browsing and purchasing; the Launcher is for Library access and downloads. A missing tile can be a filter or cache issue, but it can also indicate the wrong account. A permanent free-game claim is different from temporary testing access, and a refund, gift purchase, or revoked code changes entitlement rather than visibility. Checking those distinctions in order usually identifies whether the remedy is a setting change, a sign-in correction, a compatibility check, or an account-support issue.

Can I view or download my Epic Games Library from the website?

Epic’s support guidance says a game purchased as a gift is marked “Gifted to” beneath the item in Purchases transaction details. That indicates it was bought for someone else rather than being a personal game entitlement for the buyer.
Will every claimed game remain downloadable forever?
Epic says games claimed during a free promotion remain in the Library permanently, but the Epic Games Store EULA notes that, in rare cases, software may be removed and no longer available for further download or access. A claim should not be treated as an unconditional promise of perpetual availability in every circumstance.
What should I do if a redeemed retail code was revoked?
Epic advises contacting the retailer that supplied the code. Restarting or reinstalling the Launcher cannot restore an entitlement removed after a code was revoked.
