To download a filed return from TurboTax Online, sign in to the Intuit account you used to file, open Tax Home, scroll to Your tax returns & documents, select the tax year, then choose Download/print return (PDF). TurboTax says its online service provides access to returns for the past seven years, but a return may be missing if you are signed in to the wrong account or it was replaced by another filing.
Download a filed return from TurboTax Online
- Sign in to TurboTax with the same Intuit user ID used to file the return.
- Open Tax Home and scroll to Your tax returns & documents.
- Select the tax year you need.
- Choose Download/print return (PDF) and save the file to your device.
TurboTax Support states that online users can access returns for the past seven years in its help article updated August 17, 2026. That is the stated access period, not a guarantee that every return will appear in every account. TurboTax: Access prior-year TurboTax returns.

If you need the return with government and TurboTax worksheets, TurboTax describes opening that tax year’s return workflow and going to Tax Tools > Print Center, then selecting Print, save or preview this year’s return. The support article says you can save or print the copy and optionally include worksheets; the route can differ by product and year. TurboTax: Access prior-year TurboTax returns.

If the return is missing from your account
- Check the Intuit account. Sign out and try other email addresses or user IDs you may have used. One person can have more than one account.
- Check whether the return remains in the account. TurboTax says that in some cases another filed return replaced an earlier one; its help page says that return cannot be recovered there and directs users to the IRS for a copy. TurboTax: Access prior-year TurboTax returns.
- For TurboTax Business Online, check Documents. Sign in to the Intuit Account, open Documents, select the year, and download the PDF. If it is absent, TurboTax’s guidance describes requesting data through Data & Privacy > Download; the data-preparation request can take up to 15 days. Find a return prepared in TurboTax Desktop
TurboTax Desktop returns are saved locally by default rather than stored in the TurboTax Online account. Search the computer used to prepare the return, including TurboTax and Documents folders, and check any backup drive or cloud backup you maintained. For Desktop Business, TurboTax describes finding the prior return file on the Windows computer and browsing to it from the new return workflow to transfer it. Get a copy or transcript from the IRS
If TurboTax cannot provide the document, choose an IRS record based on what the person or organization requesting it will accept. A transcript is not a complete photocopy of the filed return.

A lender or other organization may accept a transcript instead of a complete copy. Check its document requirements before ordering a paid return copy; the IRS notes that transcripts can substitute in some situations. IRS: About Form 4506.

Downloading a filed return is not the same as preparing one
If you have not filed the return and want to prepare a prior-year tax return, you need the prior-year filing route, not a download of an already-filed return. TurboTax lists supported past tax years and product options in its prior-year filing guidance; availability changes by filing season. TurboTax: File a prior-year tax return.
