What “half-yearly financial results” usually means
A company’s first-six-month disclosure may be published under several names. Common labels include half-year financial report, half-yearly report, interim report, interim financial statements, six-month results, and first-half results. These labels generally refer to reporting for a six-month period, but the exact document and accounting scope vary by issuer and jurisdiction.

The formal report is the document to use when you need the company’s reported financial statements, notes, accounting information, and management commentary in an official filing. An earnings announcement may contain headline figures and management commentary without being the complete report. A presentation may summarize performance in slides. A webcast, audio file, or transcript records an investor briefing. A spreadsheet supplement may provide detailed data in a convenient format, but it is not necessarily the legal filing.
Issuer websites often place all of these materials next to one another. HKEX’s Investor Relations example lists results announcements, financial statements, presentations, webcasts, and an interim report as separate items. Vienna Insurance Group’s downloads page similarly separates a half-year financial report, news release, presentation, financial supplement, teleconference audio, and transcript. Treat the file label and description as part of your selection process.

Where to look first: the issuer’s official archive
The company’s own Investor Relations page is normally the fastest and most authoritative starting point. Open the company’s official website and look for a top-level link named Investor Relations, Investors, Results, Reports, Financial Reports, Interim Reports, or Downloads.
Once inside, look for an archive arranged by financial year or reporting period. Deutsche Börse Group, for example, maintains interim reports in a dated archive by year. Munich Re’s results page places its half-year report alongside other investor materials. These layouts illustrate why browsing the issuer’s archive is more reliable than searching the wider web for a single phrase: the company may group the same disclosure under a fiscal-year heading rather than under “half-yearly financial results.”
If the site has a search box, enter the company’s own terminology first. If that fails, use the alternate labels below.

Add the fiscal year or period-end date to narrow the search. A company whose financial year does not follow the calendar year may describe its first six months with a different month range than January through June.
Step-by-step: find and download the correct report
1. Identify the exact issuer and listing
Confirm that you have the correct legal entity, not a similarly named subsidiary, parent company, fund, or former corporate name. If the company has securities listed in more than one market, note the exchange and jurisdiction because disclosure portals and document names can differ.
Use the issuer’s official domain rather than an unauthorised document mirror. Search results can surface old reports, presentations, or third-party copies before the current filing. The official Investor Relations page should show the company’s own publication date and period description.
2. Open the results or reports archive
Navigate through the site’s Investor Relations area to a page titled Results, Reports, Financial Reports, Interim Reports, or Downloads. Archives may be divided into annual reports, quarterly results, half-year results, and regulatory announcements. Select the fiscal year that contains the six-month period you need.

Some pages use a “results as at” date instead of the words “six months.” Read the heading and surrounding metadata rather than relying on the filename alone. EQT Corporation’s quarterly-results example demonstrates a period- and document-type-organized results page; other issuers use a year-by-year archive or a chronological list.

3. Search using more than one label
If “half-year” returns nothing, try “interim,” “six-month,” “first half,” or “financial statements.” Companies do not apply one universal naming convention. One issuer may call the file an interim report, while another calls it a half-year financial report or first-half results.
Use the issuer’s spelling and punctuation where possible. Searching both “half-year” and “half year” can find pages indexed differently. Add terms such as PDF, consolidated, or standalone only after locating the relevant reporting page; otherwise you may narrow the search too early.
4. Separate the formal report from supporting materials
Read each link’s title, description, and file type. Select the item identified as the half-year financial report, interim report, or interim financial statements when you need the formal disclosure.

Do not assume the first PDF in the list is the report. An announcement and a formal report can both be PDFs, while a spreadsheet may contain more rows of figures than the report itself.
5. Verify the reporting period before downloading
Check all of the following on the archive page or inside the document cover:
- Financial year: the issuer’s fiscal year, which may not be the calendar year.
- Six-month period-end: the exact date through which results are reported.
- Publication date: when the issuer released the document.
- Period wording: “first half,” “six months ended,” “half-year,” or equivalent.
- Comparative column: the prior-year period used for comparison, if shown.
A report labelled “2026 half-year” may cover a six-month period ending before or after June 30, depending on the company’s fiscal calendar. The period-end date inside the report is the authoritative reference for what the figures represent.
6. Check whether the report is individual or consolidated
“Company results” can mean the legal parent on a standalone basis or the entire corporate group on a consolidated basis. The distinction affects revenue, debt, cash flow, subsidiaries, and other totals. Look for words such as consolidated, group, parent company, individual, or standalone in the title and notes.

That distinction is useful when an issuer’s own archive lists several filings with similar dates. If your analysis concerns the whole group, a parent-only report may answer the wrong question; if you need the legal entity’s statutory accounts, a consolidated report may be too broad.

7. Download and record the file details
Select the official download link and note the filename, format, publication date, and page or archive heading. Save the original file without renaming away its identifying information. If you create a shorter working filename, retain the original in a separate folder or in the file metadata.
VIG’s archive illustrates a common arrangement: its 2026 half-year financial report is identified as a PDF, while a spreadsheet supplement is listed separately. Download both only when you need both the formal report and the supporting data; do not treat the spreadsheet as a substitute for the report.
After downloading, open the file and confirm that the first page identifies the issuer, reporting period, and document type. Check that the file is complete and readable, and that tables, footnotes, and appendices are present. A browser download that stops early can leave a file that opens but lacks pages or contains broken tables.
Using a regulator or exchange database when the issuer site is difficult
If the company archive is unavailable, poorly indexed, or missing an older filing, use the regulator or exchange responsible for the listing. Search the organisation’s official filing database by company name, issuer identifier, and reporting period. This is a fallback—not a reason to rely on an unrelated document repository.
The CNMV’s “Interim financial reports” query shows how a regulator index can help: it lists the issuer, publication date, and report type, including individual and consolidated half-year reports. Those fields let you distinguish two documents that may have nearly identical titles on an issuer website.
Exchange disclosure pages can also separate document types. HKEX’s Investor Relations example lists announcements, financial statements, presentations, webcasts, and an interim report as distinct entries. Use the category and description to identify the formal filing rather than downloading whichever attachment appears first.
When searching a regulator database, confirm that the result belongs to the correct issuer and security. Large groups may have multiple listing entities, debt programmes, or subsidiaries with similar names. Check the publication date and period-end against the company’s own reporting calendar when both sources are available.
How deadlines and filing routes vary by jurisdiction
There is no universal half-year filing deadline. The timetable depends on the market’s listing rules, the issuer’s status, and the applicable securities regime. A deadline from one exchange should not be used to predict when a company in another country must publish.

For example, HKEX Main Board Listing Rule 13.48(1) describes a requirement for an issuer to send an interim report or summary interim report for the first six months no later than three months after the end of that six-month period, subject to the conditions stated in the rule. This is a Hong Kong-specific example, not a global timetable. For a particular company, read the current rule applying to its listing and verify the issuer’s actual publication.
If a report seems late, first check whether the company uses a non-calendar fiscal year, whether you are looking at the correct listing, and whether the issuer released a summary interim report instead of a full report. Do not infer non-compliance from a calendar-based expectation alone.

“Half-year” describes the first six months of a company’s financial year, not necessarily January through June. Retailers, universities, infrastructure groups, and other organisations may close their books on dates that differ from the calendar year. The archive may label the report by fiscal year, while the statements show the exact six-month end date.

Use the period-end date as your anchor when comparing companies. Two documents both described as “first-half 2026” can cover different months if their fiscal years differ. Record the start and end dates alongside the fiscal-year label in your notes or spreadsheet.
What to do when several versions appear
Full report and summary report
Some rules permit an issuer to publish a summary interim report. If both a summary and a full report are available, choose the full report when you need detailed notes or accounting policies. Use the summary when you only need the issuer’s concise regulatory communication, and confirm which document the listing rules designate as the official submission.
Preliminary announcement and later report
A company may announce results before uploading the complete interim report. Compare publication dates and select the later formal report if your task requires the complete statements. Keep the earlier announcement only when you need the original market communication or its management commentary.
Multiple languages
Issuers may provide separate language versions. Check that the translated file covers the same period, entity scope, and document type as the original. If a legal or accounting interpretation matters, use the version designated as authoritative by the issuer or regulator.

An archive can contain an amended report or a replacement file. Look for labels such as revised, amended, replacement, or a later publication date. Preserve the superseded file only when you need an audit trail; otherwise use the newest official version and record why it replaced the earlier copy.
Troubleshooting common search problems
The company search returns only quarterly results
Search the Investor Relations archive for “interim,” “six months,” or “first half,” then browse the fiscal-year folder manually. Some sites classify the six-month disclosure under annual and interim reports rather than under quarterly results.
The link opens a presentation instead of statements
Return to the document list and read the file type and description. Look specifically for “financial report,” “interim report,” or “financial statements.” A presentation is a supporting communication, even when its title includes “half-year results.”
You cannot tell whether figures are group-level
Open the report cover, statement headings, and accounting notes for “consolidated,” “group,” “individual,” or “parent company.” If the archive is still ambiguous, use the regulator’s report-type field, such as the individual/consolidated distinction in the CNMV query.
The PDF is missing pages or will not open
Download it again from the official page, preferably using the link rather than a cached browser preview. Compare the file size and page count with the archive description when those details are shown. If the issuer provides an HTML viewer and a PDF, use the PDF for an offline record only after confirming that both represent the same document.
The report is not in the expected month
Check the company’s fiscal-year calendar and the six-month period-end. Then check the applicable exchange or regulator timetable. A delay in your expected calendar month does not by itself establish that the issuer missed a filing requirement.
A reliable record-keeping method
For each downloaded report, keep a small record containing the issuer’s legal name, listing or regulator, fiscal year, six-month period-end, publication date, document type, entity scope, language, file format, and the official archive location. This prevents a presentation or spreadsheet from being mistaken for the formal report months later.
Store the formal report separately from announcements and presentations, but retain a clear relationship between them. For example, use separate folders for Interim report, Results announcement, and Supplementary data. Include the original filename and download date in your internal notes. This is especially useful when a company later replaces a file or adds a revised version.

A spreadsheet supplement can speed up analysis, but the formal report’s notes are where definitions, accounting policies, and scope limitations are established.

- Open the company’s official Investor Relations or Results page.
- Browse the fiscal-year archive and search using half-year, interim, six-month, and first-half variants.
- Read the document label to distinguish the formal report from announcements and presentations.
- Confirm the fiscal year, six-month period-end, publication date, and standalone or consolidated scope.
- Download the official file, open it, and check that the report is complete.
- If the issuer archive is unavailable, search the relevant regulator or exchange and use its report-type and date fields.
- Apply the filing deadline for the company’s own jurisdiction; do not transfer a Hong Kong or other market rule to another market.
