To catch a costumed Pokémon in Pokémon GO, check the active event’s details and follow the encounter route listed for that specific Pokémon. Costumes are event-dependent: one may appear in the wild, while another is available only from a raid, research task, or Collection Challenge. In the game, open Today View > Events to see active event information and challenge requirements.
How do I get costumed Pokémon in Pokémon GO?
- Check the active event in the game. Open Pokémon GO, go to Today View > Events, and look for event details and any Collection Challenge.
- Find the exact costume in the official event announcement. Check its listed section—such as Wild Encounters, Raids, Field Research, Timed Research, or Collection Challenge—rather than assuming it appears everywhere.
- Use the specified encounter route. If the Pokémon is listed as a raid encounter or research reward, searching for it in the wild may not help. Pokémon GO’s Help Center notes that some event Pokémon are only available through research task rewards or Raid Battles (Collection Challenges Help Center).
- Watch deadlines and claim rewards in time. For timed research, check the event’s expiration and claim deadline; completing a task does not remove the need to claim its reward before the timer runs out.
Where do costume Pokémon spawn?
Only in the routes named for the specific Pokémon in the active event details. Event announcements have distributed costumes through several different methods, so there is no single permanent spawn location or encounter method.

| Route | What to check |
|---|---|
| Wild encounters | Look for the costume under the event’s Wild Encounters section. |
| Raids | Check the listed raid tier and availability window; the costume may be raid-exclusive for that event. |
| Field Research | Check which event tasks award the Pokémon and complete the relevant task. |
| Timed Research | Review the deadline for finishing tasks and claiming rewards. |
| Collection Challenge | Open Today View > Events and read each target’s required method. A challenge may require catching, hatching, evolving, or trading a Pokémon. |
Official event announcements illustrate why checking the exact route matters. The July 2026 Special Anniversary Pikachu Celebration listed different costumed Pikachu in wild encounters, one-star raids, and Field Research. The February 2026 Road to Kalos event included costume encounters and daily research, with time-limited tasks and claims. Earlier examples include costumed Pokémon in the wild and Field Research during Halloween 2025, and wild encounters, raids, research, and a Collection Challenge encounter during Fashion Week 2025. These are past event examples, not a current availability list.
How do I complete a costume Pokémon Collection Challenge?
Open Today View > Events and tap the Collection Challenge. The challenge shows which Pokémon count and the method required for each target. Follow those icons and instructions: a target may need to be caught, hatched, evolved, or traded, so encountering the Pokémon by another route may not satisfy that entry. Check the event deadline as well, since challenge availability is tied to the event.

Can I get costumed Pokémon from raids or research?
Yes, when the active event lists a particular costume through raids or research. Check the event announcement for the exact Pokémon and category. Research rewards can be Field Research or Timed Research; timed tasks and their rewards may expire, so use the event’s stated deadline rather than assuming you can claim them later.
Are costumed Pokémon shiny?
Some event announcements say that a costume encounter can be shiny. That means a shiny is possible, not guaranteed. Check the current event page for the specific costume; a shiny note from an older event does not establish availability or shiny eligibility in a later one.

What if the costume I want is not listed?
If a costume is absent from the active event details and in-game Events view, the available information does not establish that it can currently be obtained. Costumes may return in later events, but there is no predictable return schedule established by the official examples cited here. Check future event announcements rather than relying on an old roster.

Event dates matter: costumes listed in an announcement are generally tied to its stated event window, not permanently available. For instance, the Road to Kalos announcement specified daily Timed Research expiration and reward-claim deadlines; its February 2026 dates have passed. Consult the current event’s own local-time window and instructions before planning raids or research around an older announcement.
