How to find album art and track details in YouTube Music

By Freedom251 Team · · 13 min read

To identify a song’s artwork in YouTube Music, find the recording through Search or Library and open its song or album page. To inspect available credits, open the song’s menu and choose View song credits. When browsing the Samples feature, tapping the displayed album art opens that album’s page.

The credits screen is metadata-driven: it can show writers, producers and performers only when those details were supplied to YouTube by the label or distributor. Artwork and credit availability can therefore differ between recordings, regions and releases.

What “track details” means in YouTube Music

YouTube Music does not guarantee one identical information panel for every recording. The most clearly documented track-detail feature is the song credits page. Google says it can display the writers, producers and performers associated with a selected song. Those are credits, not a promise that every track will also show a complete release date, label, copyright line, catalog number or other specialist metadata.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Album art is primarily a way to identify and navigate a release. You can use the artwork shown with a song or album to reach the album page in the Samples experience. The route is specific to Samples; tapping artwork is not documented as a universal control on every YouTube Music screen.

In practice, use two related workflows:

  • Locate the recording: Search or Library gets you to a song, album or artist.
  • Inspect information: the song menu may offer View song credits, while Samples artwork can lead to the album page.

These workflows answer different questions. Search and Library answer “Where is the recording?” The credits command answers “Which contributors did the delivered metadata identify?” Samples artwork answers “Which album is associated with this sample?” Keeping those purposes separate prevents you from expecting an artwork tap or an album overview to provide a full contributor list.

Find the song or album first

Use Search when the track is not saved

  1. Open YouTube Music on your phone, tablet or computer.
  2. Use the Search control and enter the information you know, such as the song title or artist.
  3. From the results, choose the recording whose title, artist and artwork match the version you want to inspect.
  4. Open the song so its playback and song-level controls are available.

Search is the most direct route when the recording is not already in your collection. If several results have similar names, compare the visible artist and album information before opening the song menu; credits are tied to the selected recording.

Searching by both title and artist can narrow an ambiguous result. If you know the album name, use it as another check after the result opens. A single artist can have studio, live, remix and compilation entries with nearly identical titles, and each entry can carry different artwork or metadata.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use Library for saved music

  1. Open Library.
  2. Choose the relevant category, such as songs, albums or artists.
  3. Select the saved item, then open the specific song if you started from an album or artist page.

Google’s discovery guidance documents these Library categories and notes that the interface experience can vary by country or region. A label, menu location or category may therefore look slightly different from the layout shown on another device or in another market.

Starting from an album in Library is useful when the artwork is familiar but the exact track is not. Open the album, compare its cover with the one you are trying to identify, and then select the individual song. The credits action belongs to that song-level view, so an album page alone may not expose it.

Confirm that you opened the intended release

Artwork and credits belong to a particular recording entry. Before checking details, verify the visible song title, artist and album. This matters when an artist has multiple releases, live versions or other entries with similar names. You do not need to change any account setting to perform this check; it is simply a way to avoid reading the credits for the wrong item.

Use all three visible clues together: title, artist and artwork. An artwork match by itself is not enough if the service has separate entries for a single, an album track or a compilation. If you reached the song from an artist page, open the album information as an additional confirmation before relying on the credits.

View song credits on mobile and the web

The documented control is the song menu. Google’s official wording is: “The song credits page displays writers, producers and performers for a selected song.”

Mobile app steps

  1. Find the recording through Search or Library and open the song.
  2. Open the song’s options menu. Depending on the current layout, this is the menu associated with the song rather than a general Library menu.
  3. Select View song credits.
  4. Read the roles and names shown on the credits page. The documented roles include writers, producers and performers.

The feature is available in the YouTube Music app when the relevant metadata exists. If the menu does not contain the option, follow the missing-credits explanation below rather than assuming that the app is malfunctioning.

Make sure the menu you open is attached to the currently selected song. A menu for a playlist, album or general library view may contain playback or organization commands instead of the credits command. Returning to the song page and opening its own options menu is the reliable way to check.

Web and desktop steps

  1. Open YouTube Music in a desktop browser and locate the song with Search or Library.
  2. Open the song’s menu.
  3. Choose View song credits.
  4. Review the credits displayed for that selected recording.

Google documents the credits feature for YouTube Music on the web as well as in the mobile app. Exact placement of the menu can change with the web layout, but the action remains tied to the individual song. If the page looks different from the mobile app, look for the song-specific options control rather than a particular icon position.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What the credits page can and cannot establish

  • It can establish: names listed by the supplied metadata in writer, producer and performer roles.
  • It cannot establish by itself: that every contributor is listed, that the information is complete for every territory, or that a release has no other credits.
  • It does not appear for every song: the option depends on songwriter or producer details being included in metadata delivered to YouTube by the label or distributor.

Google states the condition directly: “View song credits will appear when writers or producers are included in the metadata delivered to YouTube by your label or distributor.” Treat a missing page as an availability or metadata limitation first, not as proof that a song has no credited writers or producers.

The roles shown are also not a guarantee that every role used in a recording’s production has been supplied. For example, a page may identify writers and performers without displaying every studio or technical contribution. Read the page as the set of credits YouTube received for that recording, not as an independent audit of the release.

Use album art to reach an album page in Samples

Samples is a separate discovery context in YouTube Music. Google’s instructions describe a specific artwork route there:

  • [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by
  1. Open the Samples experience.
  2. Browse until the song or clip with the artwork you want to investigate appears.
  3. Tap the album art shown with that Sample.
  4. YouTube Music opens the associated album page, where you can continue browsing the release and its tracks.

This is the documented way to find an album from its art when you are already in Samples. It should not be generalized to every artwork image elsewhere in the service. On a normal song or Library screen, use the song or album controls provided in that view; the Samples artwork action is the one Google specifically documents.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If your goal is simply to identify which album a song belongs to, the album name shown with the song and the artwork are useful cross-checks. If your goal is to read contributor information, open the individual song from the album page and use that song’s menu for View song credits, when available.

Samples is therefore an artwork-first route, while Search and Library are item-first routes. If you already know the song title, Search is usually more direct. If you only encountered the track while swiping through Samples, tapping its artwork avoids leaving that discovery context to locate the album manually.

Why “View song credits” may be missing

Credits are not generated from a universal YouTube Music database that is complete for every release. Labels and distributors deliver the metadata used by YouTube. When songwriter or producer fields are absent from that delivery, YouTube Music may not show the credits command at all.

Common explanations include:

  • The label or distributor did not send writer or producer fields for that recording.
  • The recording’s metadata is incomplete even though the song itself is available to play.
  • You are viewing a different release or version from the one whose credits you expected.
  • Your local interface differs because Google notes that some discovery experiences vary by country or region.

There is no listener-side switch that can create missing credits. Searching again can help you confirm that you selected the intended recording, but it cannot add metadata that was never delivered.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not infer that a missing command means the song has no writers or producers. It only tells you that the required details are not available to the service for that entry, or that the current interface does not expose them in your location. Checking another version can clarify whether you selected the wrong release, but it will not repair incomplete delivery.

What to do when credits or artwork are wrong

Missing or erroneous song credits

Google directs users with missing or erroneous credits to contact the label or distributor responsible for the release. Include the exact song and release information so the rights holder can identify the affected metadata. YouTube Music’s normal song menu is for viewing the information; it is not documented as an editor for listeners.

When reporting a problem, identify the song title, artist, album and the version you opened. State whether the credits command is absent or whether a name or role is incorrect. This gives the label or distributor enough context to locate the delivered record and submit a correction.

Incorrect artwork or information in YouTube’s Music section

Google has a separate help route for the Music section that can appear in eligible video descriptions. That route is distinct from the song-credits page in YouTube Music. For that Music section, labels or distributors can submit corrected metadata and artwork. Google’s wording is: “Music labels or distributors can send us the artwork media files along with updated metadata.”

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This distinction matters. A listener who sees incorrect cover art should not expect a personal edit button inside YouTube Music. The correction has to come through the metadata provider or rights holder, and the relevant process depends on whether the problem is on a YouTube video’s Music section or on a YouTube Music song entry.

Do not send a correction to the wrong channel. A missing contributor on a song credits page concerns the release metadata supplied by the label or distributor. Artwork or track information shown in a video’s Music section follows the separate rights-holder submission route. In both cases, the listener can document the discrepancy, but the metadata provider is the party that can submit updated information.

Troubleshoot the most common problems

The song is available, but there is no credits option

  • Check that you opened the song itself, not only an artist or album overview.
  • Open the song’s own options menu and look specifically for View song credits.
  • If the command is absent, the recording may not have the required writer or producer metadata. Google’s documented remedy is to contact the label or distributor.

The credits page opens but a contributor is missing

  • Confirm that the title, artist and album match the intended release.
  • Remember that the page reflects delivered metadata; it is not a guarantee of a complete credits database.
  • Report the omission to the label or distributor, which is the party that can provide corrected metadata to YouTube.

The cover art does not match the release

  • Verify that you did not select a different recording with a similar title.
  • If the discrepancy is in a YouTube video’s Music section, use the rights-holder correction route for updated artwork and metadata.
  • If the discrepancy is in a YouTube Music entry, document the exact song and release and contact the responsible label or distributor; listeners do not have a documented direct artwork-edit control.

You cannot find the album from an artwork image

Check whether you are in Samples. The artwork-to-album action is documented for Samples, not as a universal action across every YouTube Music screen. Outside Samples, locate the song through Search or Library and open the album information associated with that song.

The interface does not match a guide or another device

Google notes regional variation in the discovery experience, and YouTube Music’s mobile and web layouts are not identical. Look for the same functions—Search, Library, the song options menu and, when supplied, View song credits—rather than relying on a particular icon position.

The artwork opens an unexpected album

Recheck the Sample’s song title and artist before assuming the artwork is wrong. Samples artwork opens the album associated with that Sample, so a compilation, single or alternate release can lead to a different album page than the one you expected. Once there, compare the album title and track list with the recording you intended to identify.

A practical workflow for identifying a release and its contributors

When you need both artwork and credits, work from the recording outward instead of starting with an image alone:

  1. Search for the song or open it from Library.
  2. Check the visible artwork, title, artist and album to confirm the release.
  3. Open the song menu and select View song credits if it is present.
  4. Record the writers, producers and performers shown on that page.
  5. If you started in Samples and need the full release, tap the album art to open the album page, then select the relevant song from that album.
  6. If expected information is absent or incorrect, identify whether the problem concerns YouTube Music credits or the Music section attached to a YouTube video, then use the appropriate label-or-distributor correction path.

This sequence keeps navigation and metadata correction separate. Search and Library help you locate the right item; the song menu exposes available credits; Samples provides the documented artwork-to-album jump; rights holders are responsible for supplying corrections.

For a quick identification task, stop after confirming title, artist, album and artwork. For a contributor check, continue to the song menu. For a correction, capture the exact release context before contacting the label or distributor. That order reduces the chance of reporting a problem that belongs to a different version.

Key points to remember

  • Search and Library are the two documented ways to locate music in YouTube Music.
  • Song credits are opened from the individual song’s menu, not from a general album control.
  • The credits page can list writers, producers and performers, but only when the relevant metadata is delivered.
  • In Samples, tapping album art opens the album page.
  • Missing or incorrect credits and artwork must be corrected through the label or distributor that supplies the metadata.
  • A missing credits command does not prove that a recording has no contributors; it usually indicates unavailable or incomplete delivered metadata.
  • Mobile and web layouts, labels and discovery experiences can vary by country or region.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I view song credits in YouTube Music?

Find the song with Search or Library, open the song-specific options menu and choose View song credits. The page can list writers, producers and performers when those details were delivered to YouTube.

Why is View song credits missing?

The command appears only when songwriter or producer information is included in metadata supplied by the label or distributor. Confirm that you opened the intended song, then contact the responsible label or distributor if the information is absent or wrong.

How do I find an album from its art in YouTube Music?

In the Samples experience, tap the album art displayed with the Sample. YouTube Music opens the associated album page. This artwork shortcut is documented for Samples, not as a universal control on every screen.

Can I edit incorrect album art or credits myself?

No listener-side metadata editor is documented. Labels or distributors supply corrected credits, artwork and metadata. Contact the responsible rights holder with the exact song and release details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does a credits page list every person involved in a recording?

Not necessarily. It displays the roles and names included in the metadata delivered for that recording. A page can therefore be useful without being a complete list of every contributor or every territory’s information.

Are the YouTube Music steps identical everywhere?

Google notes that some discovery experiences vary by country or region, and mobile and web layouts differ. Look for Search, Library, the song options menu and the View song credits command rather than relying on a fixed icon position.

The Bottom Line

Use Search or Library to open the exact recording, verify its title, artist, album and artwork, then use the song menu to select View song credits. In Samples, tapping album art opens the associated album page. Credits and artwork depend on metadata supplied by labels or distributors, so missing or incorrect information must be corrected through the responsible rights holder.
