To find a less expensive option, identify the exact product and what it is meant to do, compare alternatives on the features that matter for that same job, then check the full price and listing terms before you buy.
Start with the exact recommendation
Celebrity and creator roundups can help you discover products, but a mention is not a controlled test or evidence that another item performs the same way. Keep the recommendation and any substitute separate: name who recommended the original and where that recommendation appeared, then label any alternative as your comparison—not as that person’s pick.

For example, TODAY’s June 25, 2026 roundup names Mario Badescu facial spray among Martha Stewart’s favorites and reports Mindy Kaling’s recommendation of a Cetaphil cleanser for oily skin. Those examples can point you toward a product category, but they do not establish that a cheaper spray or cleanser will produce the same results. TODAY’s celebrity-product roundup also includes event-specific deal prices, which should not be treated as current prices.
For each original pick, write down its exact model or variant, intended use, size, and the feature that matters most to you. In skincare, that could mean the stated skin type, product size, and ingredient list; for a home or fitness product, it may be its dimensions, included parts, or supported uses. This makes the comparison about the job the product does—not its celebrity association.

Compare alternatives on the same job and specifications
A useful alternative is one that serves the same purpose and meets the requirements you care about. There is no single “dupe” standard that works across beauty, fitness, home goods, and accessories. A lower price alone does not show that two products are equivalent, safer, more effective, or a better value.
Example: resistance bands
ELLE’s October 9, 2024 article lists Khloé Kardashian’s workout picks, including Zacro resistance bands and WHATAFIT exercise bands with a door anchor. Kardashian said she likes bands because they offer a range of exercises. That article supports the attribution and category, not a tested cheaper substitute. When comparing band sets for your own workouts, check the resistance levels or range, whether a door anchor and handles are included, the materials, and whether the set supports the exercises you intend to do. Compare like with like: a set without an anchor is not the same purchase as one that includes it, and a different resistance range may not suit the same exercises. The 2024 roundup’s prices are historical, not current.

Separate celebrity picks from creator picks
Amazon’s 2023 roundup lists creator favorites across categories such as beauty, bedding, fashion, home, and accessories. Examples include COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence, Echo Dot (5th Gen), Mellanni Queen Sheet Set, LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask, and the BISSELL Little Green Carpet Cleaner. These are creator picks, not necessarily celebrity recommendations. Amazon’s 2023 creator roundup also reported that the Stanley Quencher had been shared more than 17,000 times. That is a sharing count, not evidence of sales, customer satisfaction, or product quality.

Compare the actual total price
Compare the price you would pay for the alternatives, not just a displayed discount or reference price. Kiplinger advises checking comparable products and their final prices; a reference price may not represent what an item typically sells for. Include shipping and any discount you are eligible to use. Kiplinger’s Amazon savings guide explains that shopping offers can have conditions.
- Coupons: Check whether you must clip or activate the coupon, and confirm that it applies at checkout.
- Lightning deals: These are time-limited and can end when inventory sells out. Confirm the offer is still live before relying on it.
- Amazon Resale: Read the condition label and item-specific description. Labels can include Like New, Very Good, Good, or Acceptable; condition affects what you are buying.
Before deciding, check the listing’s seller, condition, delivery cost, coupon application, and return terms. A lower listed price may not mean a lower final cost or the same purchase conditions.

Use this checklist before choosing
- Identify the original: What exact product or variant was recommended, by whom, and in which article?
- Define the job: What do you want it to do, and which specifications are essential for that purpose?
- Match the purchase: Compare size, variant, materials, resistance or capacity where relevant, and included accessories.
- Calculate the total: Add shipping and apply only discounts you can actually claim. Check whether a deal is still available.
- Review the listing: Confirm the seller, item condition, and return terms before placing the order.
- Judge the evidence: Treat the celebrity mention as a product lead. Do not assume a substitute is equivalent without product-specific evidence.
