How to Find Accessible Transportation and Parking for a Gaming Convention

Start with the gaming convention’s official accessibility page, then check the venue’s accessibility and parking pages and the local transit operator’s current information. Confirm the exact route to your event entrance—not just whether a service or parking space exists—and ask the event team about event-specific shuttles, pickup points, and accommodation requests.

Where to find current accessibility information

Use sources in this order, then contact the event or venue when details conflict or are missing:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  1. The convention’s official attendee and accessibility pages. Look for parking instructions, event shuttles, rideshare zones, request deadlines, capacity limits, and an accessibility contact. Event arrangements may differ from the venue’s usual setup.
  2. The venue’s accessibility and parking pages. Check the building, hall, and entrance for your specific event. A large campus can have different parking and drop-off points for different halls.
  3. The local transit operator. Use its trip planner and accessibility information to check vehicles, stations or stops, transfers, and service changes.

If the pages do not answer a practical question—such as whether a drop-off point is step-free or where an accessible shuttle unloads—contact the event accessibility team or venue before travel.

How to check accessible parking and the route to the entrance

Do not stop at finding an accessible lot on a map. Confirm that it serves your event entrance and that the full route from the space to the entrance works for your needs. Ask the parking operator about any extra room needed to deploy a wheelchair ramp or lift.

  • Which lot or garage has accessible spaces, and which entrance should you use?
  • Are spaces first-come, first-served or reservable? Is availability limited?
  • What are the event-day opening and closing times, payment methods, and prices?
  • Are there height limits, re-entry rules, or other vehicle restrictions relevant to your trip?
  • Is a nearby drop-off permitted, and is the path from there to the entrance step-free and practical?
  • How far is the route, what is its surface, and could construction, crowds, or queues affect it?

Parking arrangements can change with the event. BlizzCon’s attendee guidance, for example, warns that parking locations, rates, payment methods, and EV charging information may change: BlizzCon attendee information.

How to verify an accessible public-transit trip

Check the entire journey from origin to the correct convention entrance. An accessible bus or train does not by itself establish that every route, stop, transfer, or approach will work for every traveler.

  1. Use the transit operator’s trip planner and accessibility pages to check accessible vehicles, station or stop access, transfers, and elevator status where relevant.
  2. Identify the exact stop for the venue and confirm the walk or roll route from that stop to the event entrance, including surfaces, crossings, and construction.
  3. Check service hours and event-day changes, then save the directions and a backup option offline.

Anaheim Convention Center guidance says ART buses are equipped for accessibility needs and identifies ART and OCTA stops serving the campus near Grand Plaza, Harbor Boulevard, and Katella Avenue. That is useful local guidance, not a guarantee about every route or a substitute for checking the trip you plan to take: Visit Anaheim accessibility information.

What to ask about shuttles, taxis, and rideshare

Ask the event where accessible vehicles actually board and unload. A general venue map pin may not show an event’s designated pickup zone, and a location that looks close may still have an inaccessible approach.

  • For an event shuttle, confirm whether accessible vehicles are provided, where they board and unload, the schedule, capacity, and whether a reservation or event ticket is required.
  • For a taxi or rideshare, confirm the designated accessible pickup and drop-off point and whether the route from it to the entrance is step-free and practical.
  • Ask whether traffic controls or event instructions change the usual approach to the venue.

D23’s Anaheim event guidance illustrates how event arrangements can specify particular rideshare and accessible-shuttle locations, along with location and capacity caveats. Those directions apply to that event, not automatically to another convention: D23 event transportation information.

When to request accommodations or mobility-equipment rentals

Contact the convention’s accessibility team early about accommodations, aides, seating, or communication services. Ask what information or documentation the event needs; there is no single process established for every convention. Some venue services also require advance coordination. Seattle Convention Center, for example, asks attendees to advise their event manager of special considerations at least 30 days in advance, and says stage ramps and wheelchair lifts are subject to availability and advance request: Seattle Convention Center accessibility information.

If you need to rent a wheelchair or scooter, contact a local provider early. Confirm availability, delivery and pickup arrangements, fit, operating range, and any event-specific constraints. Visit Anaheim lists local rental providers and advises early contact because availability is limited: Visit Anaheim accessibility information.

How to compare viable routes

If more than one route could work, compare the factors that affect your trip rather than choosing only by distance or price.

Examples show why event-specific checks matter

At the Anaheim Convention Center, Visit Anaheim identifies Car Parks 1 and 4 as the most accessible parking choices and describes the Transit Plaza on the center’s south side as a transportation hub with accessibility ramps. BlizzCon’s attendee guidance also points to Car Park 4 and the Transit Plaza. D23’s event guidance describes accessible parking at Car Parks 1 and 4 as first-come, first-served and notes that parking may be off-site. These are examples of details to verify—not guarantees for another event or date.

Other venues publish different facilities and rules. The Los Angeles Convention Center lists accessible spaces in its garages subject to availability and says visitors should choose a garage based on event location; hours and prices vary with events: Los Angeles Convention Center accessibility information and Los Angeles Convention Center parking information.

Final trip-planning checklist

  • Save the convention’s accessibility contact, event instructions, venue map, and transit directions offline.
  • Confirm the correct building, hall, entrance, parking area, and event-day drop-off point.
  • Verify parking availability rules, hours, payment, and the route to the entrance.
  • Check transit vehicle and stop access, transfers, operating hours, and the final route.
  • Confirm shuttle or rideshare locations, schedules, capacity, and reservation rules.
  • Make accommodation requests and rental arrangements early, then recheck instructions close to the event.
