Recommended Free Tools
To broaden the sources in Apple News, search for both topics and publishers, follow several sources on subjects you care about, and use story-level feedback to tune recommendations. These controls can widen the mix you follow, but they do not guarantee a balanced feed or equal visibility for every source.
Follow a broader mix of channels and topics on iPhone
- Open the News app and tap Search.
- Search for a subject, such as a topic you want to follow, or for a publisher or channel.
- Open a result and tap Follow.
Following more than one publisher for a subject is a practical way to bring more sources into your followed mix. Apple says followed channels and topics appear in Today. The available channels and topics can vary by region. See Apple’s search instructions and News quick-start guide.

Use story feedback to tune recommendations
In Today, tap More beneath a headline, then choose Suggest More or Suggest Less. This tells News whether you want more or fewer similar stories; it is separate from following a publisher or topic. Apple describes Today as a mix that can include editor-selected Top Stories, followed sources, Siri suggestions, trending stories, My Sports, and other items. Your feedback can shape recommendations, but it does not establish that the overall feed is viewpoint-balanced. Apple’s iPhone guide to personalized stories explains these controls.

Choose the right control for the result you want
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Follow a channel or topic | Adds it to the sources and subjects you follow. |
| Suggest More or Suggest Less | Gives feedback on similar recommended stories. |
| Block a channel or topic | Excludes it from most of your feed. |
| Stop Suggesting | Hides a suggested story group without blocking its channel or topic. |
| Restrict Stories | Limits Today to followed channels and removes Top Stories and Trending Stories. |
To follow, unfollow, block, or unblock a channel or topic, open it and use its More menu. To broaden variety, avoid turning on Restrict Stories: Apple says it significantly limits the variety of stories in Today.
