Open Find My on an Apple device, tap Items, and select the AirTag or compatible tracking card you registered to your Apple Account. Find My can show its current or last-known location; from there, you may be able to get directions, play a sound, or ask to be notified if it is found again.

Open the Find My app on your Apple device and tap Items.

Select the missing AirTag or registered third-party item. If Find My can locate it, the map shows a location and the time it was reported. Apple says the location updates when the item connects to the Find My network; it may therefore be a last-known position rather than a live one. If the item cannot be located right now, check the displayed place and timestamp, then turn on Notify When Found. Allow notifications from Find My on your device so the alert can reach you.

If the item is nearby and supports sound playback, tap Play Sound. This option will not appear for an item that cannot play a sound.

Tap Directions to open Maps and navigate to the current or last-known location. Use the map position as a place to investigate, not a guarantee that the item is still there.

When the item may be close by
For a nearby AirTag, a supported iPhone may offer the Find flow with directional and approximate-distance guidance. This precision-finding experience is not guaranteed for every third-party card; available controls depend on the item and device.

Only if the card is explicitly compatible with Apple Find My and has been added to your Apple Account. A product described merely as a Bluetooth tracker is not necessarily a Find My item. Apple’s third-party item setup instructions say to follow the manufacturer’s steps to make the accessory discoverable, then open Find My, tap Items, choose the add control, select Add Other Item or the compatible accessory option, and finish registration. If compatibility is unclear, ask the manufacturer.

Set up the card before it goes missing. If you are choosing one, confirm its Find My compatibility and setup process with the maker, along with its dimensions, sound capability, power or charging arrangement, and any account-transfer requirements. A card’s features may differ from an AirTag’s, so do not assume that every Find My control is available.
If someone finds your item
Find My may let you mark a missing item as lost and follow the on-screen steps to show contact information to a finder. The controls vary by item. For an AirTag, Apple also offers Share Item Location; sharing a location is distinct from marking the AirTag as lost.

Apple’s Find Lost Item feature can create a temporary link showing the approximate location of a lost AirTag or Find My network accessory. The owner creates the link in Find My, and availability varies by country or region. Use it only if the option appears for your item.

Precision finding: Directional and distance guidance is described for a nearby AirTag with a supported iPhone; do not expect it from every tracking card.

Unknown tracker alerts and privacy
Apple says AirTag and Find My network accessories include protections against unwanted tracking. They should not be used to track people or property that does not belong to you. If you receive an alert that an unknown compatible tracker is moving with you, Apple’s guidance explains options such as playing a sound or using Find Nearby where supported.
