After filing, check case status, cause lists and notices separately; use the portal’s re-filing or help resources if a defect or technical problem arises.
Deadlines and token arrangements described in 2026 notices are date-specific. The latest material identified here reported a 31 July 2026 filing date and a related token window, but does not establish whether a later notice changed them. Check the current GSTAT notice and applicable notification before relying on any date.

How do I file an appeal on the GSTAT portal?
Start from the tribunal’s official website and open its e-filing portal. Use the registration or login option that matches your role as appellant or authorized representative. The portal provides filing functions, case resources and help; use the live portal rather than an old screenshot, because labels and screens can change.
Recommended Free Tools
- Register or sign in. Choose the party or representative route available on the portal and enter the requested details. Keep account contact information accurate so portal communications can reach you.
- Open appeal filing. Follow the portal’s current filing menu to start an appeal.
- Complete the form stages. The GSTAT appeal-filing manual illustrates sections titled Order Details, Basic Details, Case Details, Appellant Details, Add Respondent, Document, Check List and Final Preview. Complete the fields shown for your case and use the on-screen save-and-proceed controls.
- Check the case information. Basic details shown in the manual include the applicable Act and section, case type, jurisdiction, state or zone, and the authority whose order is challenged. Confirm that the information matches the order and the appeal you intend to file.
- Add respondents and documents. Enter the respondent information and upload supporting material through the document stage. Follow the live checklist for your appeal type; file formats, size limits and document requirements are not established uniformly here.
- Review the final preview. Check names, order details, dates, respondents and uploaded files before proceeding. Correct errors before submission.
- Complete submission and payment. Follow the portal’s current instructions for filing and payment, then retain the acknowledgment and payment evidence. The GSTAT help resources direct users to Bharatkosh guidance for payment questions. Fees and any pre-deposit depend on the matter and applicable directions, so do not assume one amount applies to every appeal.
How can I track my GSTAT appeal?
After filing, use the portal’s case-status or case-tracking facility to check procedural progress. Check the cause list separately for scheduled hearings, and look for notices and orders for official documents or decisions. These serve different purposes; a status page is not a substitute for checking a hearing list or a notice.
#1 Best Overall
- Case status: Follow the matter’s procedural progress using the portal’s status or tracking facility.
- Cause list: Check whether and when a matter is listed for hearing.
- Notices and orders: Look for case-related communications and documents on the portal.
- SMS and email: Treat alerts as supplemental. The portal’s e-filing FAQ says registered parties and users with valid credentials receive SMS/email listing information after cause lists are finalized; check the portal itself as well.
What should I do if GSTAT returns the filing for correction?
If the portal marks a submission defective or returns it for correction, use the portal’s re-filing function and follow the official GSTAT appeal re-filing manual. Read the defect information carefully, make the requested corrections, and submit the corrected filing through the indicated route. Keep the filing reference and acknowledgment so you can identify the matter if you need help.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What if the portal or payment step is not working?
Use the help center’s report-an-issue or contact route for technical problems. The official portal displays toll-free help number 1800-103-4782. When reporting a problem, have the filing or incident reference and relevant acknowledgment available. For payment questions, consult the portal’s Bharatkosh guidance rather than retrying a payment without checking its status.
What are the GSTAT appeal deadline and token rules?
Do not treat a past extension or token window as proof that a filing opportunity remains open. The Ministry of Finance’s 30 June 2026 release reported that the deadline for appeals under section 112(1) read with section 112(3) was extended from 30 June to 31 July 2026. That release also reported 30,000 appeals filed in the final 15 days and a peak of 5,500 filings in one day; those are figures for the period described, not current portal totals. Read the Ministry of Finance / PIB release.
A 29 July 2026 Ministry of Finance webinar report said GSTAT President Justice (Retd.) Sanjaya Kumar Mishra described a token process: one separate token per appeal, with 60 days to complete filing from token generation. The report said a token could be generated by 31 July 2026 and the appeal completed within 60 days. This is a dated description, not confirmation that token generation or the same deadline remains available now. Read the Ministry of Finance / PIB webinar report.
Before acting, check the latest GSTAT notice and applicable government notification for your appeal. Confirm the order date, appeal category, governing provision and any later extension or portal instruction. Under section 112 of the CGST Act, limitation depends on the statutory language and applicable notified dates; CBIC’s tax information portal reproduces the provision and notes that the ordinary three-month appeal period and six-month application period run from the later of order communication or the date the relevant tribunal president enters office, subject to the law and notifications. The statute also provides for condonation in specified circumstances. These rules do not determine an individual case’s deadline by themselves, so seek qualified legal or tax advice where limitation or eligibility is uncertain. Consult CBIC’s section 112 information.
