Where to find sea turtles
Sea turtles spawn in the Dazzle Beach biome. Travel there and look along the shoreline for the turtle variant you need. The creature may move away when you approach, so do not chase it aggressively; follow at walking pace and let its normal behavior play out.

How to feed a sea turtle step by step
- Collect Seaweed. Seaweed is obtained by fishing. Bring at least one piece before searching the beach.
- Go to Dazzle Beach. This is the sea turtle’s spawning biome.
- Approach slowly. When you get close, the turtle withdraws into its shell. This is expected and is not a failure state.
- Wait for the head to appear. The interaction becomes available only after the turtle emerges.
- Interact and choose Seaweed. Select Seaweed from the feeding prompt to give the turtle its favorite food.
A community guide reports a shortcut: dropping Seaweed directly in front of a shelled turtle can make it emerge immediately. Treat that as a version-dependent convenience rather than a guaranteed mechanic; waiting for the normal emergence is the reliable method.

Presence is variant-specific. If you are looking for a color other than Black, check that color’s current day-and-time window rather than assuming every turtle appears on the same schedule.
How to get Seaweed
Fish in the valley to collect Seaweed. Because Seaweed is the required favorite item for every listed sea-turtle color, fishing is the preparation step for both routine feeding and objectives that explicitly require a favorite food. If a fishing spot does not produce Seaweed, continue fishing in other available spots rather than substituting random beach materials.

How often to feed a turtle
Do not repeatedly feed the same turtle in a single day expecting each interaction to count. The White Sea Turtle entry states that feeding it once per day is all that counts; additional offerings that day waste resources. General creature guidance says that two or three feedings of a favorite food are usually enough to win trust, but the available guidance does not establish one universal companion-unlock threshold for every sea-turtle color. Treat progress as variant-specific instead of relying on a guaranteed number.
Rewards and when a substitute food is acceptable
Favorite-food feeding can award a Dream Shard or Memory Shard. Sea turtles are also reported to like seafood, with Festive Squid excluded from that preference. Seafood is therefore a fallback for ordinary relationship-building when Seaweed is unavailable, but it is not the correct substitute for a task that says to feed a creature its favorite food.

- For a Dreamlight Duty or Star Path requirement mentioning favorite food, use Seaweed.
- For ordinary feeding when the objective does not specify favorite food, liked seafood may work, except Festive Squid.
- If no turtle appears, verify Dazzle Beach, the current day and time, and the specific color’s schedule.
Why the turtle will not come out of its shell
The shell animation is the turtle’s normal defensive response to your approach. Stop moving and wait nearby until its head comes out; attempting to interact while it remains fully shelled will not open the feeding prompt. If waiting does not work, move a short distance away, approach again more slowly, and confirm that you have Seaweed in your inventory. The drop-in-front shortcut described by a community guide may help in some versions, but it should not replace the standard wait-and-interact sequence.
