To protect a Pokémon from an accidental transfer in Pokémon GO, open its summary and tap the star to favorite it. A favorited Pokémon cannot be transferred until you remove it from favorites. You can find marked Pokémon by searching favorite in your Pokémon inventory. Transfers to Professor Willow are permanent, so check carefully before confirming one.
Favorite a Pokémon

Tap the star on the summary to add the Pokémon to your favorites. The Pokémon GO Help Center documents this as a safeguard against transfer: the Pokémon cannot be transferred while it remains favorited.

Favoriting is specifically a transfer safeguard. The documented protection is not a general lock on every action involving that Pokémon.
Find your favorited Pokémon

Return to your Pokémon inventory.

Tap the search field and enter
favorite.
The inventory search filter displays Pokémon you have favorited. This is useful for checking marked Pokémon before selecting Pokémon to transfer.
Understand what the favorite safeguard does—and does not do
The star makes a favorited Pokémon ineligible for transfer until it is removed from favorites. If you intend to transfer one, first remove its favorite status, then select it for transfer. The Help Center’s guidance supports the transfer restriction; it does not describe favorites as a broader protection from other in-game actions.

If the Pokémon is still favorited, do not assume a transfer selection or confirmation will override that status. Check the star on its summary and your inventory search results before proceeding.
Transfer carefully: single Pokémon and bulk selection
Transferring a Pokémon to Professor Willow is different from favoriting it: a transfer removes the Pokémon, and the Pokémon GO Help Center warns that it cannot be recovered afterward.
Transfer one Pokémon

Open the Pokémon from your inventory.

Tap the menu on its summary and choose Transfer.

Read the confirmation prompt and proceed only if you are certain you selected the right Pokémon.

Transfer multiple Pokémon

In the Pokémon list, press and hold one Pokémon to begin selecting.

Select any additional Pokémon you intend to transfer.

Tap Transfer and review the selection before confirming.

Bulk transfer has extra eligibility rules. These restrictions apply to selecting multiple Pokémon and should not be treated as a complete description of every single-Pokémon transfer case.

To bulk-transfer multiple Legendary or Mythical Pokémon, first enable the relevant option in settings.

Shiny Pokémon, Lucky Pokémon, and Buddy Pokémon at Good Buddy rank or above cannot be transferred in bulk.

Some Legendary and Mythical Pokémon cannot be selected for transfer.
If a Pokémon is unavailable in a bulk selection, the restriction may be about its category or status rather than a problem with your inventory. For any transfer, take the Help Center’s warning literally: “you can’t get Pokémon back after you’ve transferred them.”

Sending a Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME is a separate process from transferring it to Professor Willow. The Pokémon Company’s Pokémon HOME guidance describes GO Transporter Energy for that route and states that Pokémon sent from GO to HOME cannot be returned to GO. Do not treat a HOME transfer as a way to undo or reverse a transfer within Pokémon GO.
