A Ferrystone is the travel item; a Portcrystal is the destination. Ordinary Ferrystones are consumed, while the Eternal Ferrystone—added in the June 2026 update—can be reused.
How fast travel works
There are three practical ways to cover ground quickly: ride an Oxcart, use an ordinary Ferrystone, or use the Eternal Ferrystone. Walking remains an option when you want to explore the route rather than skip it.

- Oxcarts: Carry the party along fixed routes between settlements. Rides can be interrupted by encounters, and carts can be damaged. PC Gamer’s report on Capcom’s June 2026 update describes the updated cart features.
- Ferrystones: Teleport the Arisen and party to an available Portcrystal.
- Walking: Takes longer, but lets you discover quests, materials, caves, tokens, and encounters along the way. Gameranx’s launch-era guide covers the original system; its details predate the 2026 additions.
For a direct trip to a known destination, teleportation is the most direct choice. Use an Oxcart when its route suits you or you want to stop at a supported point along the way. Walking makes sense when the journey itself is useful.
Ferrystones and Portcrystals: what each one does
A Ferrystone initiates a teleport; a Portcrystal provides a destination. Owning Ferrystones does not create destinations, and carrying a portable Portcrystal does not let you travel to it until you place it. IGN’s current fast-travel guide explains the distinction and practical travel conditions.

Ordinary Ferrystones
An ordinary Ferrystone is consumed when used. It lets you travel to an available Portcrystal, so check that a suitable destination is active or placed before relying on one.
The Eternal Ferrystone
Added in June 2026, the Eternal Ferrystone performs the same kind of teleport as an ordinary Ferrystone but is not consumed. Capcom’s update notes, as reported by PC Gamer, include the line: “Added the fast travel item Eternal Ferrystone.” Reusability does not remove the need for an available destination, and travel may be unavailable in restricted situations.
Portcrystals
Fixed Portcrystals are available at Vernworth, Harve Village, Bakbattahl, Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, and Volcanic Island Camp. Story progress and activation can affect access. Portable Portcrystals can be placed where you expect to return; the crystal becomes a destination only after placement. The June 2026 update also added a portable Portcrystal as a reward for “Monster Culling.” IGN’s guide discusses Portcrystal use.

How to get and use the Eternal Ferrystone
Progress the early Vernworth story to Captain Brant’s conversation during “Seat of the Sovran.” The Eternal Ferrystone is awarded after speaking with him. If that quest was already complete when the June 2026 update was installed, the item is placed in the inventory instead. Keep it available in the Arisen’s inventory for future use. What changed in the June 2026 update
Launch-era fast-travel explanations do not include several later additions. Capcom’s update notes, as reported by PC Gamer, describe these changes:
- The Eternal Ferrystone was added.
- Ferrystones can be used from the map by moving the cursor to a Portcrystal.
- Fixed Portcrystals were added at Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, and Volcanic Island Camp.
- A portable Portcrystal was added as a “Monster Culling” reward.
- Oxcart Stopovers were added, allowing players to leave at supported intermediate points.
- Oxcart departure hours were extended from morning through evening, “Doze Off” became available sooner, and a mini-map icon indicates when an Oxcart is nearby.
These additions improve flexibility, but Oxcart routes still constrain where a ride can take you, and encounters can still interrupt a journey.

Planning trips and troubleshooting travel
Before setting out
- For teleportation, confirm that the Portcrystal you want is active or placed.
- Activate fixed Portcrystals when you encounter them. Place portable ones near objectives or services you expect to revisit, and reconsider their positions when a quest ends or a new fixed crystal makes a placement less useful.
- For an Oxcart, check the destination before paying. Stations in the same settlement can serve different directions.
- For a timed quest, prioritize the deadline; use teleportation if a valid destination gets the party closer.
If Ferrystone travel is unavailable
Check that a usable Portcrystal destination exists and that the current location or story state permits travel. Open space and outdoor access may be required in some circumstances, but that is practical guidance rather than an exhaustive rule for every quest or situation. IGN’s guide covers travel conditions.
If an Oxcart ride is interrupted
Ambushes can interrupt Oxcart travel, and carts can be damaged. Stopovers and longer departure hours do not eliminate that risk. Choose a cart when its route and the possibility of an interruption fit your plans; use a Ferrystone when you need a direct trip and have a valid destination.
