To factory reset a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, open Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset, review what will be erased, then tap Reset and Delete all. Back up anything you need first: a factory reset removes personal data, and setup afterward may require the Google account previously used on the phone.
Before you reset: back up what you need
A factory data reset restores the phone to its factory settings and removes personal data, according to Samsung’s reset guide. Save important information before starting; Samsung warns it may not be recoverable. Choose a backup option you can access and verify:

- Samsung Cloud: Samsung lists support for data such as call logs, messages, and settings.
- Google backup: Use the Google account backup option available on the phone and restore through the setup flow after the reset.
- Smart Switch on a computer: Samsung documents backing up to a Windows PC or Mac and restoring after the reset.
- External storage: Samsung describes using supported microSD storage or a USB OTG flash drive with Smart Switch. Check that the phone and storage device support the connection you intend to use.
Backup coverage varies by method and data type; do not assume every app or item will be restored. Samsung’s backup and restore guide describes the available routes.

- If you use an encrypted microSD card, decrypt it first. Samsung warns the phone will not be able to read the encrypted card after the reset.
- If a Samsung account is signed in, Samsung says a network connection is needed to log out before completing the reset. Have the account password available if prompted.
- If you are giving the phone to someone else, confirm you can access the Google account previously registered on it. Account verification may be required during setup after the reset.

Reset the Galaxy S20 Ultra from Settings
- Back up the data you want to keep and complete the checks above.
- Open Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset.
- Review the information shown on the screen so you understand what will be removed.
- Tap Reset, then tap Delete all.
- Enter your screen-lock credentials if requested. If a Samsung account is signed in, enter its password if prompted.
- Allow the phone to restart. Samsung says it returns to the initial setup screen.
The labels or layout can vary with software version and device configuration. Follow the on-screen prompts if they differ from these steps.
If you cannot open Settings: use Recovery as a fallback
Samsung recommends treating a factory reset as a last resort for a phone that will not start, after trying earlier troubleshooting steps. A reset erases data and does not guarantee a fix for a hardware fault or account-verification issue. See Samsung’s boot-loop troubleshooting guidance.

Samsung’s Polish-language instructions for Galaxy devices describe a Recovery route for S20 models without a physical Home button: use the volume-up, Home, and side buttons to enter Recovery, then use the volume keys to highlight the wipe/reset action and the power button to select it. The guidance is regional, and button behavior or menus may differ by model and software version. If that combination does not work on your S20 Ultra, check Samsung’s instructions for your region and device rather than repeatedly trying unverified combinations. What to expect when the phone starts again
After the reset, the phone opens its initial setup. Google Factory Reset Protection may ask you to verify the Google account that was previously registered on the device. Samsung says that on Android 9 and later, a previously configured screen lock may also be an ownership-verification option in applicable cases. A Samsung account password may be needed to complete the reset when an account is signed in. These checks are security protections, not a way to recover erased data; do not attempt to bypass them.
