Forgot the GL-MT300N-V2 (Mango) administrator password? After the router has fully booted, hold its reset button for about 10 seconds, then release it. Reconnect by Wi-Fi or Ethernet and open http://192.168.8.1. There is no universal default web-admin password: the setup screen asks you to create one. The older password goodlife is a documented Wi-Fi default for legacy firmware, not an administrator password; check the router’s bottom label first.
Warning: A full reset deletes your WAN, repeater, VPN, DNS, firewall, Wi-Fi, administrator-password and other custom settings.

What a factory reset erases
GL.iNet describes a factory reset as clearing user data and restoring factory settings. On a GL-MT300N-V2, that can remove:

- Internet/WAN and ISP settings
- Repeater configuration
- Custom Wi-Fi names and passwords
- VPN profiles and routing rules
- DNS, firewall and MAC-clone changes
- The administrator password and other system settings
If the router still works, record or export settings before resetting. Do not proceed until you have noted any VPN, repeater or ISP details that you will need to enter again. A reset restores defaults for the firmware currently installed; it does not necessarily reinstall the firmware version shipped with the hardware. See GL.iNet’s reset and recovery guidance.

Physical-button factory reset (the recovery method for a forgotten password)
- Connect the Mango to stable power. GL.iNet’s current Mango guide recommends a 5V/2A supply; older hardware documentation lists 5V/1A, so avoid an unreliable or underpowered source during recovery. See the current Mango guide and older hardware specifications.
- Wait until the router has fully finished booting. Pressing reset immediately after power-up can enter U-Boot failsafe mode instead of performing a normal reset.
- Locate the physical reset button and press and hold it for approximately 10 seconds.
- Release the button, then leave the router powered on while it clears settings and reboots.
- After the reboot finishes, connect to the restored Wi-Fi network or plug a computer into the LAN port.
- Open
http://192.168.8.1and complete the initial setup, including creation of a new administrator password.
Do not confuse the four-second and ten-second resets
GL.iNet documents an approximately four-second press as a soft network reset. It restores network-interface defaults while preserving Wi-Fi, VPN and other system settings. It is useful for a routing or WAN problem, but it is not the way to clear a forgotten administrator password. The approximately 10-second press is the full factory reset that clears user data.

- Connect to the router by Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Open
http://192.168.8.1and sign in. - Go to System → Reset Firmware.
- Confirm the reset.
- Wait for the process to finish and the router to reboot. GL.iNet says this takes about two minutes; do not remove power during the operation.
The reset function is identified under System → Reset Firmware in the Mango user guide and the reset FAQ. Other menu labels can vary by firmware generation. In firmware 4.3, the administrator-password page was merged into Security; in 4.9 it returned as System → Admin Password. Those labels affect password management, not the basic reset path.
Reconnect after the reset
Use the label before guessing a Wi-Fi password
Current Mango documentation tells you to use the network name (SSID) and wireless password printed on the router’s bottom label. Enter the label’s values exactly, including capitalization. If a phone or laptop keeps rejecting the connection, forget the previously saved network profile and reconnect as a new network.

Legacy firmware may use goodlife
Older GL.iNet setup documentation lists goodlife as the default Wi-Fi password for the MT300N-V2. Treat it as a firmware-dependent possibility, not a guaranteed current credential. The legacy reference is in GL.iNet’s version 3 setup documentation; current guidance prioritizes the bottom label.
Ethernet is an alternative
If the label is unreadable or wireless access is unavailable, connect a computer to the router’s LAN port and browse locally to http://192.168.8.1. This local connection does not itself guarantee Internet access; it only provides access to the router’s setup page.

Which “default password” are you looking for?

GL.iNet’s first-time setup documentation says the owner creates the Admin Panel password. Current firmware documentation describes stronger password requirements, including a minimum length of 10 characters and complexity rules, while older firmware used different requirements. - Confirm that the device is connected to the Mango, not another nearby Wi-Fi network.
- Temporarily disable cellular data, VPN and proxy software on the phone or computer.
- Try Ethernet if Wi-Fi is unavailable or credentials are uncertain.
- Use a current browser and test a private/incognito window.
- Enter
http://192.168.8.1, not only an HTTPS address. - Check that the client received a local IP address from the router.
- Wait until the post-reset reboot is complete before testing again.
- If an older device redirects to LuCI, try
http://192.168.8.1/index, then (on still older firmware)http://192.168.8.1/index.html. These are legacy troubleshooting paths, not the normal current address.
GL.iNet’s router troubleshooting documentation also recommends checking the connection, using incognito mode and considering a reset or firmware recovery when the interface remains unreachable.

If goodlife fails
- Use the exact Wi-Fi password printed on the bottom label.
- Verify the SSID as well as the password; a client may be trying to join a similarly named network.
- Forget the old saved Wi-Fi profile and reconnect.
- Try Ethernet and the local admin address instead.
- Wait for the reset reboot to finish before judging the result.
A failed goodlife login does not by itself prove that the factory reset failed; it may simply indicate newer firmware or a different label credential.
If the reset did not complete
Check the common causes:
- The button was held for less than approximately 10 seconds.
- The button was pressed before the router had fully booted.
- Power was removed during the reset.
- A four-second soft reset was performed instead of the full reset.
- The firmware is damaged, or the hardware is not actually a GL-MT300N-V2.
After confirming the model and repeating the fully booted, 10-second procedure, use GL.iNet’s official U-Boot recovery instructions if the router still cannot start or accept a reset. Do not rely on unverified LED patterns or button timings for another hardware revision.
