If an older Samsung Galaxy Watch is running out of charge sooner than it used to, start with reversible settings changes: reduce screen activity, check apps and updates, and limit features you do not need. The exact menus and available options vary by model and software, and no setting guarantees a particular number of extra hours.
Start with the display
The display can use power whenever it is lit or ready to wake. Try the changes below one at a time so you can keep the conveniences that matter to you. Samsung lists these options for the Watch5 and Watch5 Pro; on another model, look for similar controls in its settings.

- Turn off Always On Display. This prevents the watch face from remaining visible when you are not actively using the screen.
- Lower brightness. Choose the lowest level that remains easy to read.
- Disable raise-to-wake. This can prevent the screen from lighting up every time you lift your wrist.
- Shorten screen timeout. Samsung’s Watch5 and Watch5 Pro instructions specify 15 seconds; use a shorter available option if your model offers one.
- Choose a simpler watch face. A static face with fewer active elements may avoid unnecessary display activity.

Out-of-date software or apps and apps running in the background can contribute to excessive drain. Samsung recommends checking for updates and reviewing battery use before assuming the battery needs repair.

- Install available watch software and app updates using the update controls for your model.
- Review the watch’s battery-use information, if available, to spot apps using more power than expected.
- Close unused background apps where the watch allows it. Samsung notes that closing an app may not be available for every app.
- Remove an app or its stored data only if you no longer need it. Back up anything you want to keep before deleting data.

Reduce notifications and automatic tracking selectively
Turn off watch notifications from apps that do not need to interrupt you. You can usually manage which apps send alerts through the watch or its companion phone app; the exact controls depend on the model and software.

Automatic health tracking can also consume power. Disable a measurement only if you are comfortable no longer receiving that measurement or its related alerts. Samsung cautions against turning off health features that are important to you. Its Watch5 and Watch5 Pro guidance discusses reducing automatic tracking.

Wi-Fi or mobile connections can use power, particularly when a watch has a weak signal and keeps searching for service. Turn off a connection only when you can accept the effect on the features that rely on it.

Use Power saving mode for a broader reduction
Power saving mode is a quick way to limit several sources of consumption at once. Depending on the model, it can reduce brightness and performance, restrict background activity and connectivity, and turn off features such as Always On Display and wake gestures.

The trade-off is reduced convenience and functionality while the mode is active. Use individual settings instead if you want to preserve particular features. Samsung’s Watch5 and Watch5 Pro guidance also describes a Watch only mode, but that option should not be assumed to exist on every older model.
Keep the watch away from temperature extremes
Samsung warns that very hot or cold conditions can shorten battery life and may damage the watch. Avoid leaving it in extreme temperatures, such as in a hot car or exposed to severe cold.
