On a Galaxy A57, start with Settings > Battery > Background usage limits and the battery-usage report. On a REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, Xiaomi’s general guidance points to brightness, refresh rate, Always-on Display, haptics, background apps, and Battery Saver. Apply changes selectively: every restriction can delay notifications, reduce smoothness, or lower performance.
What the published specifications do—and do not—tell you
The Galaxy A57 and REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G have very different stated battery capacities, but those numbers are not a controlled runtime comparison. Samsung identifies a 5,000 mAh typical battery for the Galaxy A57. Samsung announced the 5G phone on March 25, 2026, with availability from April 10 in select markets; the US announcement specified April 9. Xiaomi’s global REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G page lists an 8,340 mAh silicon-carbon battery and 67W HyperCharge. Xiaomi also advertises “more than two days” of battery life, but qualifies that result as an internal-lab simulation using a comprehensive moderate-use scenario. It is not a guarantee for every owner.

Capacity alone cannot predict your daily runtime. Screen brightness, refresh rate, mobile signal, gaming, camera use, background synchronization, and the apps you leave active all change consumption. A fair comparison would require the same network, brightness, workload, software build, and test period on both phones; the available specifications do not provide that test.
| Phone | Published battery information | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy A57 5G | 5,000 mAh typical | Manufacturer capacity figure, not a promised number of hours |
| REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G | 8,340 mAh silicon-carbon; 67W HyperCharge | “More than two days” is Xiaomi’s internal-lab simulated moderate-use claim, not independent comparative testing |
Software also affects the menu names you see. Samsung’s update listing for model SM-A576B reports Android 17 with One UI 9 and a release date of October 12, 2026. Samsung notes that changes can vary by device model, country, and provider, so use the labels on your installed software rather than assuming every Galaxy A57 has an identical menu.

Samsung Galaxy A57: settings that usually make the largest difference
1. Find the app or feature using the battery
Open Settings > Battery and review the battery-usage details. Look for a single app with unusually high foreground or background consumption, or for a feature such as the display, mobile network, location, or hotspot dominating the list. Samsung’s 5G troubleshooting guidance starts with this check because a power-saving change is more effective when it targets the actual source of drain.
- If one unfamiliar app is high on the list, update it first and check whether it is performing a large upload, navigation session, media backup, or repeated refresh.
- If the display is the largest consumer, work through brightness, timeout, and refresh-rate settings before restricting every app.
- If mobile network use is unusually high, compare drain in a location with stronger reception. A phone that repeatedly searches for service can use more power than one on a stable signal.
The report is diagnostic rather than a promise that the highest item is defective. Video, games, navigation, camera recording, and poor reception can legitimately appear at the top during heavy use.
2. Put rarely used apps to sleep
Go to Settings > Battery > Background usage limits. Add infrequently used apps to sleeping or deep-sleeping lists according to the options shown on your software. Samsung explains that a deep-sleeping app does not run in the background until you open it.

- Keep active: messaging, two-factor authentication, navigation, ride or travel tracking, health monitoring, and any app whose alerts you cannot miss.
- After changing the list: send yourself a test notification or wait for the next scheduled sync so you know what convenience you traded for standby time.
3. Turn on Power saving when extra time matters
Use Settings > Battery > Power saving when you need to stretch the remaining charge before an outlet is available. Samsung says this mode can limit background network use and synchronization. Depending on the software build, its options can also include turning off Always On Display, limiting processor speed, reducing brightness, or limiting apps and the Home screen.
Power saving is a temporary operating mode, not a battery repair. Background sync may arrive later, demanding games can run less quickly, and the interface can feel less responsive if processor speed is limited. Enable only the restrictions you can accept, then disable the mode when normal notifications or performance are important.
4. Choose a lower refresh rate when smooth motion is not worth the energy
Open Settings > Display > Motion smoothness if that option is available. Samsung describes Standard as a 60 Hz refresh rate and says it provides the best battery life. A higher refresh rate makes scrolling and animation look more fluid but can consume more power. Adaptive mode, when offered, changes the rate dynamically on supported models.
The exact choices may differ on your Galaxy A57 software. Select Standard for a long travel day, emergency standby, or any period when you value endurance over animation smoothness. Keep a higher or Adaptive setting when scrolling comfort and responsiveness matter more; the trade-off is ongoing rather than a one-time penalty.

- What You Get: Anker Zolo Power Bank (10K, 30W), 5.4-inch (13.7 cm) built-in USB-C cable, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
5. Reduce screen-on consumption
Two simple checks are adaptive brightness and a shorter screen timeout. Samsung lists both among its steps for investigating 5G-related battery drain. Adaptive brightness avoids running the panel unnecessarily bright in dim surroundings. A shorter timeout prevents the display from remaining on after you put the phone down.
- Lower brightness manually in a dark room or when you are indoors for a long period.
- Choose a timeout short enough to prevent accidental screen-on time, but long enough that reading does not become frustrating.
- Check Always On Display behavior if you use it; Power saving can turn it off, and disabling it may be worthwhile when standby time is the priority.
REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G: Xiaomi’s practical checks
The following recommendations come from Xiaomi’s general phone-support guidance, not a Note 17 Pro-specific menu manual. HyperOS or regional software can rename settings or place them in a different submenu, so use the closest matching labels on your device.
1. Lower brightness and test 60 Hz
Open the display settings and reduce brightness to the lowest level that remains comfortable. Xiaomi identifies a bright screen as a possible source of faster drain. If your phone offers a refresh-rate selector, try 60 Hz when you need longer standby or screen-on time. A higher rate improves perceived smoothness but asks the display and graphics system to update more often.
Use the higher setting for scrolling, games, or other motion-sensitive work when that experience matters. The useful choice depends on whether your priority is a fluid interface or fewer charging interruptions.

2. Turn off features you are not using
Xiaomi’s guidance specifically calls out Always-on Display, haptics, and Sunlight mode as features that can increase consumption. Disable them in the relevant display or sound settings when their benefit is small for your situation.
- Always-on Display: disable it for a night, a travel day, or any period when you do not need the clock and notifications visible while the screen is off.
- Haptics: reduce or disable vibration feedback if you can comfortably use the phone without it.
- Sunlight mode: turn it off indoors if the screen is already readable; restore it outdoors when visibility requires the extra brightness behavior.
3. Limit background apps and use Battery Saver deliberately
Close unnecessary background apps and use Battery Saver when longer standby matters more than unrestricted syncing. Xiaomi says Battery Saver reduces app background activity, stops synchronization, and minimizes system animations. Ultra Battery Saver is a more aggressive option for situations in which staying reachable is more important than normal smartphone features.
Expect delayed sync, fewer background updates, and a less animated interface while these modes are active. Keep messaging, travel, health, and other time-sensitive apps available if their alerts matter. If the phone lets you configure exceptions, preserve those apps instead of applying the strongest restriction globally.

4. Install updates, then escalate persistent drain
Check for a system update and update heavily used apps. Xiaomi’s support guidance recommends software updates when basic checks do not explain continued high consumption. If unusual drain remains after updating and reviewing battery use, contact Xiaomi after-sales service for inspection. A support inspection is the appropriate next step when settings changes do not account for the behavior.

A repeatable troubleshooting sequence for either phone
Use this order so you can identify the cause before applying restrictions that make the phone less convenient.
- Record the symptom. Note whether the problem is rapid loss while the screen is on, overnight standby drain, heat, poor reception, or a sudden change after an update or new app.
- Open battery usage. On Samsung, use the battery section in Settings and inspect the detailed app list. On the REDMI phone, open the battery settings and look for app, display, and background-activity details. A single outlier is more actionable than a general feeling that the battery is weak.
- Reduce display demand. Lower brightness, shorten screen timeout, and select 60 Hz or Standard refresh rate if smoothness is less important. The trade-offs are a dimmer panel, more frequent screen shutoff, and less fluid motion.
- Limit background work selectively. Sleep rarely used apps or restrict unnecessary background activity. Preserve access for apps that must deliver immediate notifications, location updates, health readings, or reminders.
- Use a power-saving mode for a controlled test. Enable Samsung Power saving or Xiaomi Battery Saver for several hours under normal use. If drain improves, re-enable only the restrictions you can live with; if nothing changes, look again at the battery-usage list instead of leaving every feature disabled.
- Check software. Install available system and app updates. On Samsung, remember that menu names and behavior can differ by model, country, and provider. On Xiaomi, the support recommendations are general and may not map one-for-one to the Note 17 Pro interface.
- Seek manufacturer support when the pattern remains abnormal. Persistent high drain after updates and basic settings checks warrants Samsung or Xiaomi support. Xiaomi specifically recommends after-sales inspection when its standard steps do not resolve the problem.
Choose settings by what you need the phone to do
| Your priority | Samsung Galaxy A57 approach | REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G approach | Cost to convenience |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maximum standby | Deep-sleep nonessential apps; Standard 60 Hz; shorter timeout; Power saving | 60 Hz; lower brightness; disable Always-on Display and haptics; Battery Saver or Ultra Battery Saver | Delayed sync and notifications, less animation, and reduced performance are possible |
| Immediate notifications | Keep messaging, travel, health, and security apps out of deep sleep; use display changes first | Restrict only nonessential background apps; avoid the strongest saver for critical services | Less battery reduction than an aggressive global restriction, but alerts remain available |
| Smooth scrolling and gaming | Use Adaptive or a higher refresh option if available; avoid processor limits during demanding work | Keep the higher refresh rate and disable only unused features | Higher display and graphics consumption |
| Emergency extension before charging | Enable Power saving and accept sync, brightness, processor, or Home-screen limits | Enable Battery Saver, or Ultra Battery Saver when only essential access matters | Some apps may not update until normal mode returns |
How to tell a setting issue from a possible fault
A setting issue usually follows a recognizable change: a brighter display, a higher refresh rate, a new always-on feature, a recently installed app, or a period of weak mobile reception. The battery-usage screen should show a corresponding consumer. Reversing that change and observing the usage report is more informative than repeatedly restarting the phone.
Escalate when the phone continues to lose charge unusually quickly despite moderate use, updated software, reasonable display settings, and restricted nonessential background activity. Excessive heat, unexpected shutdowns, or a battery percentage that falls in large jumps are additional reasons to use the manufacturer’s support channel rather than trying increasingly aggressive software restrictions.
Using a power bank without masking the problem
A USB-C power bank can provide an extra charging opportunity during travel or long workdays. It does not diagnose or repair abnormal drain, and no particular model or third-party charging speed is established here. Treat it as a contingency for access to power, while continuing the battery-usage investigation if the phone is emptying faster than expected.
Bottom line
For the Galaxy A57, begin with battery usage, Background usage limits, Power saving, Standard refresh rate, adaptive brightness, and a shorter timeout. For the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, begin with brightness, 60 Hz if available, Always-on Display, haptics, Sunlight mode, background apps, and Battery Saver. Make one category of change at a time so you can see what helped and which notification or performance trade-off it introduced. Neither phone’s published capacity figure guarantees a particular number of hours, and Xiaomi’s “more than two days” statement is a qualified internal-lab scenario rather than a promise for individual use.
