Then adjust connectivity or use Battery Saver when you need the current charge to last. Menu names and available features vary by model, Android version, and region, so treat the paths below as common examples rather than universal instructions.
Which settings should you change first?
Motorola’s general guidance recommends a handful of changes that can reduce power use. Try the ones that fit how you use your phone; there is no established fixed number of extra hours for any one setting.

- Lower screen brightness: Reduce it manually or use the brightness control that suits your environment.
- Shorten screen timeout: Choose a shorter interval so the display turns off sooner when you stop using the phone.
- Try Dark theme: Motorola lists Dark theme as a battery-saving option. Its effect can vary by phone and how you use it.
- Turn off Bluetooth or Location when you do not need them: Re-enable them when an accessory or app needs them. Location may be called GPS or Location in different menus.
- Use Wi-Fi where available: Motorola recommends Wi-Fi in places with coverage; do not disable connectivity if you need mobile service or another connection.
Turning off account sync can reduce background activity, but it may delay notifications and updates. You may need to sync manually, so use this only if that trade-off is acceptable.
How can you find what is draining the battery?
Check the phone’s battery-usage list before restricting apps across the board. It can show which apps and features have consumed power since the last full charge, helping you focus on a likely cause.

- On many models, open Settings > Battery > Battery usage.
- Review the entries and select an app or feature with unexpectedly high use to see the management options available for it.
- On Motorola’s Android 14 guide, Show full device usage is one of the labels. Other software versions may use different wording or menu paths.
A high-use entry is a clue, not proof that an app is faulty: heavy use may simply reflect how often you use it. If the labels do not match, search Settings for “battery” or open Device Help.
When should you use Battery Saver?
Battery Saver is intended as a temporary way to make a low charge last until you can charge again. Motorola documents manual activation and, in some versions, the option to turn it on automatically at a chosen battery percentage.

Depending on the model and software, Battery Saver may reduce refresh rate, defer app refresh, restrict background activity, and stop Location services while the screen is off. Notifications or other background behavior may change as a result. Use it when preserving the current charge matters more than having every app update immediately.

When available, Adaptive Battery learns how you use the phone and limits background activity for apps you use infrequently. Keep it enabled if you want the phone to manage that activity automatically. It may help reduce unnecessary background use, but it is not a guaranteed fix for unusually high consumption by a particular app.

How do you check charging options and battery condition?
Look for optimized charging
On some Motorola phones, an optimized charging option limits the time the battery spends charging above 80%. Motorola says this is intended to reduce battery stress, but the feature is not available on every model. Look under Settings > Battery if you want to check whether your phone offers it.
Run the battery hardware test if your phone supports it
Motorola’s Device Help app provides a hardware test on supported phones. The documented path is Learn about my device > Hardware test > Battery. The test reports current power, battery condition, temperature, and charging status. If the result indicates a problem, follow support guidance for your exact model or consult a qualified repair provider rather than choosing a replacement battery without checking compatibility.

Why menu names and features may differ
Motorola’s official instructions cover different software versions and include a regional support page. Menu labels, feature availability, and settings can therefore differ by phone, software version, and region. If a path does not match your device, use Settings search or Device Help to locate the equivalent option.
