How to Export—or Reconstruct—Your Blur NFT Transaction History for Taxes and Recordkeeping

Blur’s current interface does not have a verified, documented CSV or tax-report export. The dependable approach is to assemble the history from Blur’s Portfolio and Activity views, every wallet you used, and the blockchain explorer for each transaction’s chain. Save the resulting transaction hashes and supporting acquisition, sale, fee, and valuation records in a durable ledger.

The workflow below uses U.S. federal recordkeeping as a clearly labeled example. It is recordkeeping information, not individualized tax advice; reporting rules in another country or state may differ.

What “export” means for Blur users

An export is useful only if it is complete enough to support each purchase, receipt, sale, exchange, transfer, fee, and other disposition. A marketplace screen can be a good index, but it may not show every wallet event, internal transfer, gas charge, creator payment, or earlier acquisition that determines basis.

Blur’s surfaced interface includes Portfolio and Activity navigation with activity filters. Its current availability of a downloadable CSV or tax report is not verified. Do not rely on an assumed menu path or file format. Check the live interface for your account, then use the wallet and chain explorer records below to fill any gaps.

What a U.S. taxpayer needs to retain

The Internal Revenue Service treats digital assets, including NFTs, as property for federal tax purposes. It says digital-asset transactions must be reported whether or not they produce a taxable gain or loss. The IRS also states: “The Internal Revenue Code and regulations require taxpayers to maintain sufficient records to establish the positions taken on federal income tax returns.”

For each disposition, the IRS lists the information needed to calculate gain or loss:

  • Asset type, collection or description, and token ID when applicable.
  • Transaction date and time.
  • Number of units.
  • Fair market value in U.S. dollars at the relevant time.
  • Cost or other basis, with evidence showing how and when you acquired the asset.

Your file should also substantiate purchases, receipts, sales, exchanges, transfers, and other dispositions. If an NFT or another digital asset was received as income or in the ordinary course of business, preserve the U.S.-dollar fair market value used for that receipt and the method or source used to determine it.

Prepare the scope before looking for transactions

List every wallet

Write down every wallet address that signed a Blur transaction, including hardware-wallet addresses, browser-wallet accounts, custodial withdrawals, and addresses you used only for funding or receiving proceeds. Keep your own label for each address, such as long-term wallet or trading wallet. Never assume that one connected wallet represents your entire history.

List every chain

Record the blockchain associated with each address and period. A chain explorer is chain-specific: an Ethereum explorer will not show an NFT transaction that occurred on Base, Polygon, or another network. If you do not know the chain, start with the transaction link or hash shown in the marketplace or wallet record, then verify it in the corresponding explorer.

Set the tax period and cutoff

Decide whether you are preparing one calendar year, several years, or a complete historical archive. Use the same date and time zone convention throughout the ledger, while retaining the timestamp displayed by the chain. A transaction near midnight UTC can fall on a different local calendar date, so keep the original timestamp and a clearly labeled local-date column if your return requires one.

Compare the three record sources

Source What it is good for Chain coverage Fees and internal transactions Export and basis limits
Blur Portfolio and Activity Marketplace-facing view of visible bids, listings, purchases, sales, and filters. Only activity surfaced for the account and chains supported by the current interface. Not established as complete; internal blockchain movements may not be shown. A downloadable export is not verified. Acquisition history and tax basis are not established as complete.
Wallet activity Balances, signed transactions, transfers, and the wallet’s own labels or notes. Usually the wallet’s connected networks; verify each network separately. Wallet software can omit or simplify internal transactions. Export formats and date ranges vary; basis is generally not complete unless you maintained it yourself.
Chain explorer Canonical transaction hash, block time, token movements, payment assets, and gas data for one chain. One explorer per chain. Examples include Etherscan for Ethereum, BaseScan for Base, and Polygonscan for Polygon. Ethereum sales may reveal additional marketplace fees and creator earnings under Internal Txns. It does not know your acquisition basis, tax lots, or off-chain marketplace context; retain the pages or downloaded data you rely on.

No single view is established as a complete tax report. Reconciliation across the three sources is what makes the record defensible.

Step-by-step workflow

1. Create a wallet-and-chain inventory

  1. Open a working spreadsheet or database and create one row for each wallet address.
  2. Record the full address, your internal label, the chain, the period used, and how you control or accessed it.
  3. Mark wallets that are watch-only, custodial, or no longer available. A missing signing wallet does not remove the need to document its on-chain activity.

Do not publish seed phrases, private keys, recovery codes, or unredacted wallet-security screenshots in the tax file.

2. Review Blur Portfolio and Activity

  1. Sign in to Blur using the wallet or account associated with the period you are documenting.
  2. Open Portfolio, then Activity, and apply the available filters for dates, collections, transaction types, or chains.
  3. Copy or save the visible event details, including the asset, token ID, displayed price, currency, timestamp, and transaction hash when shown.
  4. Note which periods or event types are absent. The interface is an index, not proof that no other wallet or chain activity exists.

If the current interface exposes an export control, verify the resulting file against on-chain records before treating it as complete. The existence, name, and format of such a control are not documented here.

3. Open each wallet in the correct explorer

  1. Choose the explorer for the transaction’s chain. Use Etherscan for Ethereum activity, BaseScan for Base activity, Polygonscan for Polygon activity, and the appropriate explorer for any other network.
  2. Search the wallet address, set the relevant date range if the explorer offers one, and inspect normal transactions, token transfers, NFT transfers, and contract interactions.
  3. Open each candidate transaction and record its hash, block timestamp, sending and receiving addresses, NFT contract and token ID, payment token, amount, and gas or transaction fee.
  4. Use the explorer’s token-transfer and NFT-transfer views to find events that do not appear in the wallet’s simplified transaction list.

Do not send every Blur user to Etherscan by default. An explorer only displays the chain it indexes, so a wrong explorer can make a complete history look empty.

4. Inspect Ethereum internal transactions when relevant

For an Ethereum NFT sale or purchase, open the transaction’s Internal Txns view when available. Internal calls can show marketplace fees, creator earnings, and other value movements that a wallet application may omit. Treat these entries as transaction detail to reconcile, not automatically as separate NFT sales.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On other chains, use the equivalent trace, internal-call, or contract-event views if the explorer provides them. The exact labels vary by explorer, and no universal export format is established.

5. Reconcile every event

  1. Match each Blur event to a wallet event and then to an explorer transaction hash.
  2. Classify the event as a purchase, sale, swap, mint, receipt, transfer, burn, loan-related movement, fee, or other disposition. If classification is uncertain, flag it for review rather than guessing.
  3. Resolve duplicates created when one marketplace event appears as several token-transfer or internal-transfer rows.
  4. Investigate unmatched hashes, wallet rows with no Blur counterpart, and Blur rows with no on-chain hash.
  5. Record transfers between wallets you control separately from sales. A self-transfer may still incur gas and must not be mistaken for a disposal merely because the token changed addresses.

6. Preserve evidence

For every material row, retain the transaction hash, explorer record, Blur or wallet capture, and any invoice, receipt, offer, or acquisition document. Save a read-only copy of the original export or screenshots and a normalized spreadsheet for calculations. Include the retrieval date because explorer pages and marketplace displays can change.

7. Review before using tax software

Third-party digital-asset tax software can reduce data entry, but an import is an aid, not proof that the report is complete. Compare imported rows with your explorer ledger, wallet inventory, and acquisition records. Correct chain, asset, date, proceeds, fee, and basis fields before relying on any generated tax schedule.

Build a ledger that can support each tax lot

Use one row per economically distinct event. The following columns cover the information most often needed to trace a Blur trade from marketplace screen to tax calculation:

How fees and basis affect the record

The IRS FAQ identifies transaction and gas fees, transfer taxes, and commissions as possible transaction costs. Record the fee separately from the NFT’s gross value and retain the explorer evidence showing who paid it and in which asset. Do not assume a displayed marketplace sale amount equals your taxable gain or your net proceeds.

Basis normally comes from how you acquired the NFT or other asset, not from the later Blur sale screen. Link each disposal to the acquisition lot or lots used. If you received an NFT as income, preserve the income valuation and the later disposition calculation as separate records. If you swapped one digital asset for another, retain both sides of the exchange and the values used at that time.

When a single transaction contains several NFTs, currencies, fees, or internal distributions, document your allocation method. The chain proves movements and amounts; it does not choose your tax lot, characterize every event under your jurisdiction, or supply missing off-chain records.

Federal reporting dates to understand

For covered transactions effected on or after January 1, 2025, brokers must report gross proceeds under the applicable digital-asset broker rules. Basis reporting applies to certain transactions effected on or after January 1, 2026. The IRS also says that, for certain NFT and stablecoin sales, brokers may choose aggregate reporting when the applicable de minimis thresholds are exceeded.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

These rules do not mean every Blur trade will generate a Form 1099-DA, and a broker statement does not replace your own wallet and basis records. Reconcile any statement you receive to the transaction hashes and ledger described above. Form 8949 and Schedule D treatment depends on the transaction and the reporting rules that apply to you; obtain professional advice for uncertain classifications.

When a marketplace view is missing data

The Blur page shows a sale but no hash

Search the associated wallet’s NFT-transfer and token-transfer history around the displayed timestamp. Match the contract address, token ID, payment amount, and recipient. If multiple hashes fit, retain all candidates and document why one was selected.

The explorer shows a hash that Blur does not show

Determine whether it is a funding transfer, self-transfer, approval, bid cancellation, fee payment, failed contract call, or activity from another marketplace. Do not force every wallet event into a Blur sale category.

The wallet total does not equal the explorer total

Check for hidden internal transactions, token decimals, wrapped assets, failed calls with gas charges, and a date filter that excludes one side of the event. Ethereum users should inspect Internal Txns for sale-related value movements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A token ID appears twice

Compare the hashes and timestamps. One row may be an approval or transfer between your wallets rather than a second sale; another may be a reversal, cancellation, or duplicate display row. Keep the raw rows and mark the normalized row that represents the economic event.

You cannot prove the original acquisition

Search older wallet addresses, funding records, exchange statements, mint receipts, and contemporaneous screenshots. If basis remains uncertain, flag the lot for a qualified tax professional instead of inventing a cost.

Retention, privacy, and audit readiness

Store the normalized ledger and immutable evidence in at least two locations, such as encrypted local storage and an encrypted backup. Keep a copy that does not depend on a live Blur account. Use file names that include the wallet label, chain, date, and transaction hash.

  • Never store private keys or seed phrases with tax records.
  • Redact unrelated wallet balances and personal information before sharing records.
  • Keep the original files unchanged; perform corrections in a separate working copy.
  • Document exchange rates, valuation timestamps, and any manual allocation formula.
  • Retain records for the period required by the tax rules that apply to you, which may be longer when basis or an amended return is involved.

A practical completion check

Your archive is ready for review when every wallet and chain has been searched, every Blur event has a hash or an explanation, every hash has an event classification, and every disposal links to a documented acquisition or receipt. Fees, creator payments, royalties, gas, and transfers should be visible as separate fields rather than buried in a net total. Any unresolved row should be marked for review with the missing evidence described.

OpenSea’s help guidance puts the responsibility plainly: “Users are responsible for determining what, if any, taxes apply to their purchases, sales, and transfers of NFTs.” That principle applies to your Blur records as well: use the marketplace view to locate activity, the chain explorer to verify what occurred, and your own acquisition documents to establish basis.
