How to Explore the Star Trek Enterprise in Bridge Crew and Other Star Trek VR Games

Star Trek: Bridge Crew lets you explore the Enterprise by taking a bridge station—alone or with a crew—rather than by walking through a free-roaming ship. The original USS Enterprise appears in the game’s Ongoing Voyages mode, while the Enterprise-D is part of a separate Next Generation expansion. A newer option, Star Trek: Infection, is a very different experience: single-player VR survival horror aboard a damaged starship.

What exploring the Enterprise means in Bridge Crew

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a starship-bridge simulation focused on operating a ship, not a general-purpose Enterprise tour. Ubisoft’s original story centers on the USS Aegis exploring the Trench. Players coordinate from bridge stations to navigate, scan, manage ship systems, and respond to threats. The game was designed for crews of up to four, with roles for Captain, Helm, Tactical, and Engineer; Ubisoft also described solo play with NPC crewmates. Ubisoft’s Bridge Crew overview explains the original premise and roles.

The original Enterprise and the Enterprise-D are different playable options, not the Aegis story ship. Ubisoft announced the original USS Enterprise NCC-1701 as a bridge for solo or up-to-four-player crews in Ongoing Voyages. The Next Generation expansion later added the Enterprise-D, along with Romulans and Borg; Ubisoft said that expansion supports solo play and cross-platform multiplayer. See the original Enterprise announcement and the Next Generation expansion announcement for those distinctions.

What you do at the bridge

Bridge Crew is built around coordination: each station handles part of a ship’s operation, so players communicate and act together rather than controlling every function from one viewpoint. Ubisoft’s 2016 announcement quoted Red Storm Entertainment senior creative director David Votypka describing teamwork across objective selection, steering, scan analysis, weapons, shield hacking, and ship systems. Ongoing Voyages adds procedurally generated missions for repeatable assignments.

How to choose between Bridge Crew and Infection

What matters Star Trek: Bridge Crew Star Trek: Infection
Core experience Bridge operations and crew coordination Single-player survival horror and exploration
Ship and setting USS Aegis story; original USS Enterprise in Ongoing Voyages; Enterprise-D in the Next Generation expansion USS Lumen, described on Steam as a ruined Defiant-class ship
Players Designed for up to four players; solo play is also described by Ubisoft Steam lists single-player
VR requirement Originally a VR title; Ubisoft later announced non-VR play on PC and PS4 Steam marks it VR-only
Platform evidence Ubisoft announced PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift at launch; its later non-VR update covered PC and PS4 Steam lists the game, and the developer/publisher announced Meta Quest and Steam VR plans in 2025; check the live listing for current device and store compatibility
Best fit Players seeking cooperative Starfleet bridge role-play or solo bridge missions Players seeking a solo, horror-oriented Trek story

Star Trek: Infection is listed on Steam with a release date of March 31, 2026, and names Played with Fire as developer and publisher. Its format is not a substitute for Bridge Crew’s cooperative command experience: it is a VR-only horror game with a solo focus. The Steam listing describes its current product details, while the 2025 announcement from Played with Fire and Broken Mirror Games covered plans for Meta Quest and Steam VR.

Can you play Bridge Crew without a VR headset?

Ubisoft announced a free update that made Bridge Crew playable without VR on PC and PS4. That is a specific historical compatibility statement, not confirmation that every current PC, console, headset, or storefront version works in every configuration. Ubisoft’s original launch announcement named PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift. For present-day access, check the game’s live store page for your platform and the way you intend to connect before buying.

Check compatibility before buying a headset or game

A headset is needed for VR play, but the word “VR” does not mean that a title works on every headset or through every connection method. Platform generations and storefronts are not interchangeable: the Bridge Crew announcements cover particular platforms, while Infection’s Steam page and publisher announcement describe their own support context.

  • Confirm the exact game edition and store listing, then check its current supported headset and platform requirements.
  • For Bridge Crew, distinguish the older VR launch platforms from Ubisoft’s later PC and PS4 non-VR update.
  • For Infection, use the live Steam listing to verify current headset requirements and availability; do not assume a Quest, PC VR, PSVR, or PSVR2 setup is supported simply because another VR title supports it.
  • If multiplayer is important, confirm that the game is currently available on your chosen store and platform. Historical cross-platform support announcements do not establish present-day server reliability or player activity.

Which Star Trek VR experience should you pick?

Choose Bridge Crew if the appeal is coordinating a Starfleet crew on the Enterprise or Aegis, whether with friends or in solo play. Choose Infection if you want a solo VR horror story rather than bridge-station teamwork. In either case, use the current product listing for your exact platform to confirm availability and compatibility before purchasing.
