Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe quickest fix is a normal restart. On the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G, swipe down from the top of the screen, tap the Power icon, choose Restart, and wait for the phone to boot completely. The Safe Mode label should disappear and your downloaded apps should return. Restarting does not delete apps, photos, messages, or other personal data.
If the power menu does not respond, you can force the same restart by holding Volume Down + Power for at least five seconds. A third option is to open the notification panel, tap Safe Mode is on, select Turn Off, and let the phone restart.

What Safe Mode does on a Galaxy A57
Safe Mode starts Android with essential system software while disabling most downloaded or third-party apps. Samsung and Google treat it as a diagnostic state rather than a separate operating system or a repair mode. The phone can still make calls, use core settings, and run built-in applications, but apps you installed yourself may be unavailable until the next normal boot.

If the A57 works normally in Safe Mode, a recently installed or updated app is a likely cause of crashes, freezing, battery drain, pop-ups, or unexpected restarts. If the same symptom remains, the source may be a system setting, physical button, accessory, firmware issue, or hardware problem instead of a downloaded app.

Safe Mode itself does not remove anything. Leaving it requires a complete restart, not merely locking and unlocking the screen or switching between apps.
Three ways to leave Safe Mode
| Method | Exact path | Best use | Screen response required | Data erased |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Power-menu restart | Quick Settings → Power → Restart | The normal, simplest exit | Yes | No |
| Notification shortcut | Notifications → Safe Mode is on → Turn Off | When the Safe Mode notice is visible | Yes | No |
| Button-forced restart | Hold Volume Down + Power for at least five seconds | When menus are frozen or the touch screen is not responding | No | No |
All three methods end with a restart. None requires a paid service, accessory, repair tool, app purchase, or factory reset.
Method 1: Restart from Quick Settings
Use this route when the display and touch controls work normally.
- Place a finger at the top edge of the screen and swipe down to open Quick Settings. If only a compact panel appears, swipe down again to show the expanded controls.
- Tap the Power icon. Depending on the software build, it may appear near the top of the expanded panel.
- Tap Restart in the power menu. Do not choose Shut down if your goal is to return immediately to normal startup.
- Wait while the A57 powers off and starts again. Avoid pressing Volume Down during this boot.
- After the lock screen appears, check the lower part of the display. The Safe Mode label should be gone, and icons for your downloaded apps should be available in the app drawer.
If the label is absent after this complete reboot, no additional setting is needed. You can use the phone normally.

Method 2: Use the “Safe Mode is on” notification
Samsung also provides a direct control in the notification shade.
- Swipe down from the top of the A57’s screen to open notifications.
- Find the notification labeled Safe Mode is on and tap it.
- Tap Turn Off when prompted.
- Allow the phone to restart fully. The notification and Safe Mode label should disappear after startup.
This is still a restart, not a live toggle. Closing the notification without choosing Turn Off leaves the phone in Safe Mode.
Method 3: Force a restart with the hardware buttons
Use the button method if the power menu will not open, the screen is frozen, or touch input is unreliable.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Press and hold Volume Down and Power at the same time.
- Keep both buttons held for at least five seconds. Release them when the phone begins the restart sequence.
- Wait for the lock screen, then check that the Safe Mode label has disappeared and downloaded apps are present.
This combination is a forced restart, so unsaved work in an app may be lost. It does not perform a factory reset and does not intentionally erase stored data. If the A57 does not react, charge it for a while and try the same combination again; a completely depleted battery may not respond immediately.

What to check after the restart
Use these checks to distinguish a successful exit from a phone that has booted back into Safe Mode:
- The words Safe Mode are no longer printed on the screen.
- Apps downloaded from the Play Store or another source appear in the app drawer and can open.
- The notification reading Safe Mode is on is no longer present.
- The phone reaches the ordinary lock screen without requiring another button combination.
If all four checks pass, the A57 is in normal startup. A missing app icon alone is not proof of Safe Mode if you previously moved, disabled, or uninstalled that app; use the label and notification as the primary indicators.
Why the A57 keeps booting into Safe Mode
A pressed Volume Down button
Samsung explains that holding Volume Down while the phone starts can trigger Safe Mode. A tight case, a misaligned bumper, debris around the key, or a damaged button can press it during boot even when you are not touching the phone.
- Power the phone off or restart it normally.
- Remove the protective case and any accessory that covers the side keys.
- Check that the Volume Down key moves freely and is not stuck below the case edge.
- Start the phone again without touching either volume key.
If Safe Mode stops appearing after the case is removed, refit or replace the case rather than continuing to troubleshoot apps.

A downloaded app causing the original symptom
Safe Mode disables most downloaded apps so you can test whether one is responsible. If the phone becomes stable in Safe Mode but acts up during normal use, identify the suspect app instead of repeatedly forcing restarts.
How to identify a problematic app
Google’s recommended approach is to remove recently downloaded or suspicious apps one at a time and restart after each removal. Removing several at once makes it difficult to know which change solved the problem.
- Make a short list of apps installed or updated shortly before the trouble began. Start with apps that affect the system, display over other apps, manage the keyboard, clean storage, change the launcher, or use unusual accessibility permissions.
- Restart the A57 so it leaves Safe Mode and reaches normal startup.
- Open Settings, then Apps, select the suspected app, and choose Uninstall. The exact menu wording can vary slightly by software version.
- Restart the phone after removing that one app.
- Use the phone long enough to reproduce the original symptom. If it returns, remove the next recent or suspicious app and repeat the restart.
- When the problem stops, leave the suspected app uninstalled. Check whether its developer offers an updated version before reinstalling; an update may not be available or may not resolve the underlying conflict.
Do not remove essential system components simply because their names look unfamiliar. Concentrate on apps you installed or updated yourself, and back up important app-specific information before uninstalling an app that stores data locally.

When the label appears after every reboot
- Remove the case and side-key accessories, then restart without touching Volume Down.
- Look for a physically stuck or damaged Volume Down button. Repeated triggering after the case is removed points away from an app and toward the button or its hardware.
- Use the notification-panel method or the power-menu method once more after the phone is free of pressure on the key.
When the phone leaves Safe Mode but the original problem remains
That result means exiting Safe Mode worked; it does not prove the underlying fault is fixed. Continue the one-app-at-a-time removal process, noting which app was removed before each restart. If the symptom persists with downloaded apps removed, investigate system settings, recent software updates, charging accessories, storage conditions, or hardware support rather than treating Safe Mode as the cause.

When the display or touch screen is unusable
Use Volume Down + Power for at least five seconds. If the phone remains completely unresponsive, connect a known-good charger and allow it to charge before trying again. A forced restart cannot repair a failed display, broken button, or battery that cannot hold a charge; those conditions need service diagnosis.
Do not factory-reset just to exit Safe Mode
A factory reset is a separate escalation that can erase personal data and return the phone to its initial setup state. Samsung’s Safe Mode exit instructions use a restart, and Google’s troubleshooting method uses individual app removal followed by restarts. Neither procedure calls for a factory reset simply because the Safe Mode label is visible.
Consider a reset only after you have backed up information and determined that less destructive steps have failed, and only when you understand the account verification and setup requirements that follow. A reset will not correct a Volume Down key that is being held mechanically, so remove that possibility first.

Samsung identifies the handset covered here as the Galaxy A57 5G (SM-A5760). Samsung provides an Android 16 user manual for this model. Menu names, icon positions, and whether a particular notification appears can vary by carrier, region, model variant, and installed software version. An update may move the Power icon or change the appearance of Quick Settings without changing the underlying restart behavior.
If your screen uses slightly different wording, look for the equivalent controls: a system Power menu with Restart, or the notification that says Safe Mode is active with a control to turn it off. Do not assume that a menu shown on another Galaxy model has the same location on your A57.
A practical decision path
- Touch works and the Power icon is available: use Quick Settings → Power → Restart.
- The Safe Mode notification is visible and easier to reach: tap Safe Mode is on → Turn Off.
- The phone is frozen or the power menu will not respond: hold Volume Down + Power for at least five seconds.
- Safe Mode returns: remove the case, release the Volume Down key, and restart again.
- The phone is stable only in Safe Mode: uninstall recent or suspicious downloaded apps individually, restarting after each removal.
- The phone remains unstable after those checks: preserve your data and seek Samsung or carrier support rather than repeatedly resetting the device.
Common mistakes that prevent a normal startup
- Choosing Shut down and assuming the phone has restarted; a powered-off phone has not completed a new boot until you turn it on again.
- Holding Volume Down while the phone starts, which can deliberately trigger Safe Mode.
- Leaving a case on while testing a sticky side key, hiding the mechanical cause.
- Uninstalling many apps at once, which removes useful evidence about the offending app.
- Factory-resetting before trying the three restart paths, despite the risk of data loss.
- Judging success only by whether one app icon is visible instead of checking the Safe Mode label and notification.
When to seek support
Contact Samsung or your carrier when Safe Mode starts after the case is removed and no key is being pressed, when the phone cannot complete any restart, when a button is physically damaged, or when serious symptoms continue after recent downloaded apps are removed. Record when the issue began, which apps were installed or updated, whether the phone works in Safe Mode, and which restart method you tried. That information helps support separate an app conflict from a button, firmware, battery, or other hardware problem without immediately erasing your data.
