Requirements to evolve Bramblin
There is one Candy cost and one species-specific Buddy task. You must satisfy both on the Bramblin you plan to evolve.

Niantic’s general instructions do not publish Bramblin’s exact numbers; they explain where Pokémon GO displays a species’ task and Candy requirement. If your app shows different figures, use the values on the live summary rather than relying on an older guide.

Step-by-step: evolve Bramblin into Brambleghast
- Choose the individual Bramblin. Open your Pokémon storage and select the Bramblin you intend to evolve. If you have several, decide which one you want to keep before investing Buddy progress and Candy.
- Set that Bramblin as your Buddy. From its Pokémon page, use the Buddy option so the game records walking progress for the correct Bramblin. Keeping the intended specimen selected avoids confusing one Bramblin’s progress with another’s.
- Walk until the evolution task is complete. Accumulate the required distance while Bramblin is your Buddy. Check the progress shown on the Pokémon details page instead of estimating from your overall walking distance.
- Build the Candy balance. Catch Bramblin when encounters are available and check the Candy total on the selected Pokémon’s summary. The evolution cannot be confirmed until the account has the listed amount.
- Open the summary again. Return to the same Bramblin after the Buddy task and Candy condition are satisfied. Niantic says the summary is where the Candy requirement is displayed, and the details page is where species-specific tasks can be checked.
- Tap Evolve. When Pokémon GO makes the button available, tap Evolve and confirm the in-game prompt. The selected Bramblin will become Brambleghast.
If the button is still unavailable, do not spend Candy on a different Bramblin while trying to diagnose it. Reopen the exact Pokémon you walked with and check both the task progress and the Candy total on that individual summary.
What the 20 km Buddy task actually requires
The distance is an evolution condition, not merely a suggestion to walk with Bramblin. The game must register the required Buddy progress before it enables the evolution. Select Bramblin through the Buddy flow first, then use the progress indicator on its details page as your source of truth.
For a clean record, use the Bramblin you expect to evolve as the active Buddy while completing the task. If you own multiple Bramblin, label or otherwise identify the chosen one in your storage so you do not accidentally inspect a different specimen whose task is incomplete. The requirement is associated with the Bramblin you are preparing to evolve, so checking the wrong entry can make a completed walk appear to have vanished.

The game may update the displayed progress after it records walking activity. If the number does not change immediately, check the same Bramblin’s details page again before assuming that the distance was lost. The in-game task display is more reliable than a separate estimate based on your phone’s general step counter.

Do not confuse evolution distance with Candy distance
Pokémon GO Hub lists Bramblin’s Buddy distance for earning Candy separately as 5 km per Candy. That is a different mechanic from the distance required for evolution. Earning Candy through Buddy activity does not automatically satisfy the evolution task, and completing the evolution task does not by itself supply the Candy cost.
Think of the two systems as separate counters:
- Evolution task: the Bramblin-specific Buddy-walking requirement shown on the details page.
- Candy supply: the amount shown in the Pokémon summary and required to press Evolve.
- Buddy Candy distance: the separate distance used by the game when awarding Buddy Candy, listed for Bramblin as 5 km.
For the evolution, monitor the first two counters. The 5 km figure explains how Buddy Candy can be earned; it does not replace the evolution task.
When Bramblin is available
Bramblin’s Pokémon GO debut is tied to the official Fall Marathon: Buddy Trek event, announced for October 13–19, 2026, with event times expressed in local time. The announcement says Bramblin encounters can come through event routes including GO Pass tasks and Incense, and that event Field Research can also provide encounters.
The official announcement describes this as Bramblin’s first appearance in Pokémon GO. Because the event is time-limited, do not assume that every listed encounter route will remain available after the event window ends. If you are playing during October 13–19, check the event’s active tasks and bonuses in the app. After the listed end date, rely on the current in-game event and encounter information rather than an old event guide.

Event times are local to the player. A player in one time zone may see the event start or end at a different UTC moment than a player elsewhere, so use the date and local-time wording in the official announcement when planning walks and encounters.
How to collect the Candy you need
You need the Candy total shown in the requirements table before the evolution can be confirmed. Bramblin encounters during its debut event are the most direct way to add to that balance. Check each encounter’s reward and your Candy total in the app instead of assuming that a single event route supplies a fixed amount.
Use every available event encounter route
During Fall Marathon: Buddy Trek, look for Bramblin through GO Pass tasks, Incense encounters and event Field Research. These routes are event-specific; their availability should be verified in the current event screen. Completing the listed tasks can also help you find additional Bramblin to build a Candy reserve.

Keep the evolution target separate
When several Bramblin are available, decide which one will receive Buddy progress before you begin. You can continue catching others for Candy while keeping the target Bramblin identifiable in storage. This prevents a common mistake: having enough Candy but opening a different Bramblin whose Buddy task is not complete.

Check the balance before the final tap
Open the target’s summary immediately before evolving. The summary shows the current Candy requirement and whether your balance is sufficient. If the Candy amount is short, the evolution button will remain unavailable even if the Buddy task has been completed.

The Buddy task still shows incomplete
Return to the target Bramblin’s details page and inspect the task indicator. Confirm that you walked with that exact Bramblin selected as Buddy. A general walking total, or progress earned while another Pokémon was your Buddy, should not be treated as proof that Bramblin’s evolution task is complete.
You have enough Candy but no evolution
Having the Candy cost alone is not enough. Check the species-specific task on the details page. Bramblin requires the Buddy condition as well, so the button can remain unavailable even when the summary shows a sufficient Candy balance.

Check the Candy total on the same summary. Continue obtaining Bramblin Candy through the encounter methods currently offered in Pokémon GO. Do not assume that the distance walked for the task has been converted into the full evolution cost; the task and Candy systems are separate.
You inspected the wrong Bramblin
Open your storage and compare the individual you selected as Buddy with the individual whose summary you are viewing. If you have more than one Bramblin, this is the first identity check to make. The evolution task must be complete on the Bramblin you intend to evolve.
Your app shows different requirements
Use the live Pokémon summary and details page as the final authority. Pokémon GO can revise evolution conditions, and the exact Bramblin figures are maintained in a specialist listing rather than in Niantic’s general mechanics article. If the current game displays a different Candy cost or task, follow the current display and avoid relying on an older screenshot or guide.
Is there a shortcut, trade or evolution item?
The cited Bramblin evolution listing establishes the Candy-and-Buddy method. It does not establish an alternative trade shortcut or an evolution item for Bramblin, and Niantic’s general Help Center guidance does not list one for this species. Therefore, plan on completing the task shown for your Bramblin rather than expecting a trade or item to bypass it.
If a future update introduces another method, Pokémon GO should expose it through the live Pokémon details page or the evolution interface. Check that screen before transferring Bramblin or spending resources based on an older explanation.
A practical preparation plan
- Find the event window. During the announced Fall Marathon: Buddy Trek dates, check the event tab for the currently active Bramblin encounter routes.
- Select the target. Choose one Bramblin and set it as your Buddy before beginning the evolution walk.
- Track the task in-game. Use the details page to monitor the displayed Buddy progress; do not substitute the separate Candy distance for the evolution counter.
- Accumulate Candy in parallel. Use available Bramblin encounters while the target remains identifiable in your storage.
- Verify both conditions together. Open the target’s summary and details page, confirm that the task is complete and the Candy balance meets the listed cost.
- Evolve from the summary. Tap Evolve only after the button becomes available on the target Bramblin.
Final checklist
- The Bramblin you want to keep is clearly identified.
- That same Bramblin has been your Buddy for the required task.
- Its details page shows the evolution task as complete.
- Your account has the required Bramblin Candy shown on its summary.
- You are checking the current in-game values, especially if an update or event has ended.
- You tap Evolve from that Bramblin’s own summary page.
