To evaluate HPE stock, look past revenue growth and compare the company’s margins, debt, liquidity, and cash generation across consistent periods. In its fiscal 2026 third quarter, ended July 31, 2026, Hewlett Packard Enterprise reported revenue of $12.213 billion, up 33.7% year over year, alongside 40.1% GAAP gross margin, 11.4% GAAP operating margin, and $958 million in free cash flow. Those figures are useful starting points—not a valuation or a buy-or-sell verdict.
Start with the reporting period and accounting basis
HPE’s fiscal year ends October 31. Its Q3 FY2026 results cover the three months ended July 31, 2026; the nine-month figures cover the period from November 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026. The annual baseline below is FY2025, ended October 31, 2025. Keep those periods separate when comparing growth or cash flow.

HPE reports GAAP results and also presents non-GAAP measures that exclude specified items. Use GAAP as the starting point, label any adjusted measure, and check its reconciliation rather than treating the two bases as interchangeable. The figures below are company-reported; calculated debt-minus-cash is identified as a simple calculation.
Assess revenue growth and where it came from
HPE reported Q3 FY2026 net revenue of $12.213 billion, compared with $9.136 billion in the prior-year quarter, an increase of 33.7%. For the first nine months of FY2026, revenue was $32.192 billion, up from $24.617 billion, or 30.8%. These reported rates describe the periods; they do not by themselves establish that growth will continue at the same pace. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results

Segment results show how unevenly growth was distributed. HPE’s presentation notes that its normalized Networking comparison includes eight months of pre-acquisition Juniper Networks results. That normalized comparison and the reported growth rate use different comparison bases; do not substitute one for the other or present either without its label. HPE Q3 FY2026 earnings presentation
| Q3 FY2026 business | Revenue | Year-over-year change |
| Cloud & AI | $9.0 billion | +25.4% |
| Server | $6.8 billion | +35.3% |
| Storage | $1.3 billion | +10.2% |
| Financial Services | $0.9 billion | −0.3% |
| Networking | $2.9 billion | +74.9% |
Networking’s reported growth was especially strong, but its subcategories differed: Campus & Branch revenue was $1.4 billion, up 31.0%; Data Center Networking was $382 million, up 112.2%; Security was $281 million, up 75.6%; and Routing was $788 million, up 270.0%. These results identify the sources of the quarter’s growth, not how long those rates will last. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results

Compare margins on the same basis
HPE’s Q3 FY2026 GAAP gross margin was 40.1%, up 10.9 percentage points year over year and 3.6 points sequentially. GAAP operating margin was 11.4%, up 8.7 points year over year and 4.4 points sequentially. The company’s non-GAAP gross margin was 40.4%, and non-GAAP operating margin was 16.2%; those are adjusted measures, not replacements for the GAAP figures. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results

That is management’s explanation. Its non-GAAP reconciliations add back specified items, including amortization of intangible assets, stock-based compensation, cost-reduction program costs, and acquisition, disposition, and other charges. Review the amounts and whether similar adjustments recur when judging the underlying trend. HPE Q3 FY2026 earnings presentation
Segment operating margins add detail but are not equivalent to consolidated GAAP operating margin. In Q3 FY2026, Cloud & AI’s segment margin was 17.0%, compared with 7.0% a year earlier; Networking’s was 22.0%, versus 22.1%; and Corporate Investments and Other was negative 24.1%, versus negative 7.0%. For the first nine months, Cloud & AI’s segment margin was 13.6%, up from 7.3%, while Networking’s was 22.4%, down from 25.1%. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results
Put the latest quarter against the annual baseline
FY2025 shows why a strong latest quarter should be read in context. HPE’s annual revenue increased, while gross and operating margins and cash generation weakened versus FY2024. The causes HPE reported also matter: the company attributed revenue growth primarily to higher Networking revenue from the merger and higher average Server unit prices; higher cost of sales in Server, Networking, and Hybrid Cloud contributed to the gross-margin decline. Goodwill impairment and merger costs contributed to the operating-margin decline. HPE FY2025 Form 10-K

| Measure | FY2024 | FY2025 |
| Revenue | $30.127 billion | $34.296 billion |
| Gross margin | 32.8% | 30.3% |
| Operating margin | 7.3% | −1.3% |
| Cash flow from operations | $4.341 billion | $2.919 billion |
| Free cash flow | $2.297 billion | $986 million |
HPE said the FY2025 operating-cash-flow decrease was primarily due to unfavorable working capital, largely from the timing of vendor payments. That explanation is company-reported; it does not make working-capital swings irrelevant when assessing the cash trend. HPE FY2025 Form 10-K

Examine debt and liquidity at a specific date
At July 31, 2026, HPE reported $2.901 billion in notes payable and short-term borrowings, $17.343 billion in long-term debt, and $6.216 billion in cash and cash equivalents. Adding the two debt lines gives $20.244 billion in gross debt; subtracting the reported cash gives approximately $14.028 billion. This is a simple calculation from selected balance-sheet lines—not an HPE-reported net-debt measure or a complete liquidity assessment. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results

For a dated comparison, HPE’s FY2025 annual report showed total debt of $22.365 billion and cash, cash equivalents, and restricted cash of $5.859 billion at October 31, 2025. The cash line differs from the Q3 figure, which is cash and cash equivalents, so the two snapshots are not perfectly like-for-like. These figures alone do not establish debt maturities, covenants, refinancing terms, or credit-rating implications. HPE FY2025 Form 10-K

Q3 FY2026 operating cash flow was $1.6 billion and free cash flow (FCF) was $958 million. For the nine months ended July 31, operating cash flow was $4.229 billion and FCF was $2.581 billion. HPE defines FCF as operating cash flow less net capital expenditures and presents a reconciliation; its reconciliation includes investment in property, plant and equipment and software assets, proceeds from asset sales, and exchange-rate effects. Treat FCF as a company-defined non-GAAP measure and consult the reconciliation when comparing it with another company’s measure. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results HPE FY2025 Form 10-K
The annual cash-flow record adds a longer view: FY2025 operating cash flow was $2.919 billion and FCF was $986 million, down from $4.341 billion and $2.297 billion, respectively, in FY2024. Look at whether operating cash flow and FCF are supported by operating performance across periods, and account for working-capital movements and capital investment rather than relying on a single quarterly result. Use the numbers as an evaluation framework, not a stock verdict
- Revenue: Compare the same fiscal periods, distinguish reported from normalized growth, and inspect segment mix and acquisition effects.
- Margins: Start with GAAP gross and operating margins; then examine reconciled non-GAAP measures and the adjustments behind them.
- Debt and liquidity: Record the balance-sheet date and distinguish short-term borrowings, long-term debt, and cash. Verify maturities or financing terms from current disclosures before drawing conclusions about debt risk.
- Cash generation: Compare operating cash flow and consistently defined FCF across several periods, including capital spending and working-capital effects.
- Earnings quality: Separate recurring operations from impairment, merger, amortization, stock-compensation, restructuring, and other adjustment items.
HPE CFO Marie Myers described the quarter as reflecting “robust demand across our portfolio and consistent, disciplined execution.” This is management’s interpretation, not independent validation. The cited financial results do not establish HPE’s current share price, valuation multiples, later dividend status, or whether the company will meet its outlook; financial statements alone are not enough to conclude that the stock is cheap or expensive.
