Calculate RPM using revenue and views from the same date range and the same content scope: RPM = estimated revenue ÷ views × 1,000. For a future period, forecast revenue and views separately from comparable livestream and replay data on your own channel, then calculate each scenario. YouTube does not publish a universal RPM rate for 24/7 livestreams, and running a stream continuously does not mean every view is monetized.
Calculate RPM from matching YouTube Analytics data
- Choose the date range. Use a specific period and keep it the same for both inputs.
- Choose the content scope. Decide whether you are measuring the live event, its replay, or both. Where available, use video-level Analytics for the live stream and its replay to make comparisons relevant to that asset.
- Use matching revenue and view figures. For total RPM, use estimated revenue and views for the same date range and scope. YouTube defines RPM as creator revenue after YouTube’s revenue share per 1,000 views. Its total revenue measure can include ads, YouTube Premium, channel memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. YouTube’s RPM and ad revenue definitions explain these metrics.
- Divide revenue by views, then multiply by 1,000. For example, hypothetical estimated revenue of $240 divided by 80,000 views, multiplied by 1,000, equals $3 RPM. This is arithmetic to illustrate the formula, not an expected rate or industry benchmark.
If you want to report ads-only performance, label it clearly and use an ad-revenue measure rather than presenting it as total RPM. Estimated revenue and estimated ad revenue do not cover the same revenue sources.

Know which metrics belong in the calculation
Views, ad impressions, and monetized playbacks are different measures. YouTube’s total RPM uses views as its denominator; do not substitute ad impressions or monetized playbacks. A playback can have more than one ad impression, while some views have no ad at all. YouTube Help describes these distinctions, and the YouTube Analytics API metrics reference defines monetized playbacks and revenue metrics.
- RPM: creator revenue after revenue share per 1,000 views; includes views that did not monetize.
- CPM: advertiser cost per 1,000 ad impressions before revenue share. It uses a different denominator and cannot, by itself, determine RPM.
- Estimated ad revenue: an ads-only measure. The API describes estimated ad revenue as estimated net revenue from Google-sold advertising; estimated revenue metrics may be adjusted at month-end and omit partner-served ads. Keep revenue measures on a consistent basis rather than mixing gross advertiser figures with net creator revenue.
A monetized channel does not earn an ad on every view. YouTube lists possible reasons a view may not carry an ad, including ad suitability, ads being turned off, limited inventory for a viewer, viewer geography, recent ad exposure, and Premium status. A 24/7 schedule does not remove those variables.

Estimate future RPM with channel-specific scenarios
For a forecast, estimate revenue and views independently using comparable periods from your own channel, then divide the paired figures for each scenario. Keep the revenue definition consistent across scenarios—for example, do not compare total revenue in one period with ads-only revenue in another.
- Select comparable periods. Prefer the same asset type—live, replay, or a clearly defined combination—and similar date ranges. If you compare different content, account for differences in audience and revenue mix rather than assuming the results transfer directly.
- Set low, base, and high assumptions. For each case, write down a revenue estimate and a view estimate grounded in comparable channel history.
- Calculate each case separately. Apply revenue ÷ views × 1,000 to each matched pair. Do not multiply a generic CPM by hours streamed and call the result RPM.
- Revisit the estimate. Estimated revenue can be adjusted. Check again when reporting has had time to settle, and use the live-versus-replay breakdown where available.
Revenue and views can shift with ad availability, viewer geography, Premium viewing, ad format, audience composition, and the balance between ad revenue and other revenue sources. Those factors are why a channel’s own comparable history is more useful than a universal 24/7 rate—which YouTube’s metric documentation does not establish.

Check that periods are comparable
Before interpreting a change in RPM, confirm that both periods use the same revenue definition and content scope, and note whether the figures are estimated or have been adjusted. Compare views, audience geography, monetized-playback and ad-impression mix, and the contributions from ads, Premium, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers where those figures are available.
