Choose a programme and category whose rules fit your project, then build the entry around that category’s criteria and submit it through the organiser’s current official process. Eligibility, evidence requirements, word limits, fees and deadlines vary between UK digital and IT awards, so treat the steps below as a planning framework and verify the live instructions before drafting or paying.
1. Choose the right awards programme and category
Start with the official category description and eligibility rules—not with a generic entry draft. Check whether the project, organisation and relevant project dates qualify. For a project award, confirm that the category recognises completed or implemented outcomes if that is what you are entering.
If you are comparing programmes or categories, assess them against the same practical questions:
- Fit: Does the category’s published wording match the project and its demonstrated results?
- Eligibility: Are there requirements for the applicant, organisation, UK connection or project dates?
- Evidence: Can you substantiate the outcomes the criteria ask judges to assess?
- Submission: What are the questions, word limits, file formats and attachment rules?
- Commitment: What are the entry fee, deadline, judging stages and any presentation or interview requirements? If shortlisted, check whether attending an event adds a separate cost.
Do not assume that a rule or date published by one organiser applies to another programme.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Map your evidence to the chosen criteria
Read the complete criteria and make a short outline that answers each one directly. The UK IT Industry Awards advises entrants to read the criteria fully, tailor an entry to each category, and support claims with facts and figures. Its guidance describes the criteria as “deliberately brief and open in order to be less prescriptive” (UK IT Industry Awards entry guidance).
A practical evidence map can help organise your draft. It is a writing aid, not a universal set of official judging criteria; use the target category’s form if it differs.

| Entry point | Evidence to assemble | What to make clear |
|---|---|---|
| Need and intended outcome | Baseline, user or business need, project objective | Who was affected and what needed to change |
| Delivery and project management | Milestones, scope, team roles and delivery choices | How the work was managed and which constraints mattered |
| Innovation or technical approach | Design decisions, methods and alternatives considered | How the chosen approach addressed the problem |
| Results and benefits | Before-and-after measures, adoption or service and business outcomes | Baseline, units, measurement period and evidence source |
| Customer or user value | Feedback, usage or service measures; testimonials if permitted | Whose experience the evidence represents |
| Learning and wider relevance | Lessons, repeatability or transfer to other teams | Which results are demonstrated and which are future potential |
Keep claims interpretable: identify the baseline and measurement period for figures, and say where the evidence came from. Describe what the team contributed, not just what the technology can do. A list of product features without a clear account of the need and resulting impact gives judges little basis for assessing the project.
3. Tailor the entry to each category
Even when entering the same project in more than one category, adapt the response to each category’s criteria. The UK IT Industry Awards explicitly cautions against using an unchanged generic entry. Reuse relevant facts, but select and explain them in the way that answers the category’s questions.

For project categories, connect the problem to the work delivered and then to outcomes for users or the organisation. In the 2026 Digital Transformation Project category, the awards guidance says: “The determination will be made based on the project outcomes and not for the technology per se.” (UK IT Industry Awards category guidance) That is a category-specific example, not a rule for every awards programme.
4. Follow the form, limits and attachment rules
Use the current entry form as your checklist. Follow its question order, word limits, file formats and rules for supporting material; do not transfer another programme’s limits to your application.

For example, the UK IT Industry Awards 2026 project-category guidance specified an 80-word project overview, up to 500 words for each of four criteria, and a summary of up to 250 words. It also allowed video material of up to three minutes in relevant project criteria and advised that supporting material should be brief and additive (UK IT Industry Awards 2026 categories). These are instructions for that programme and cycle, not standard limits across UK awards.

Before submitting, revisit the organiser’s official page for the open cycle. Confirm that the category is available, the deadline has not passed, the fee and any VAT treatment are clear, and the required payment and attachments are ready. If an organiser publishes entry tiers, check which period and membership status apply.

The UK IT Industry Awards 2026 example used an online portal: entrants created or accessed an account, selected categories, completed mandatory questions, optionally supplied supporting documents or a video link, entered personal details and paid by card. Its stated final deadline was 11:55pm BST on 19 June 2026, which has passed (UK IT Industry Awards entry information). Do not rely on that cycle’s deadline or portal details for a later entry.
Other programmes publish different windows and fee structures. The DMA Awards’ official 2026 page listed an entry window of 6 July–18 September 2026, with member and non-member fees varying by entry period; that window has passed. The UK Digital Excellence Awards page lists a separate 2027 schedule and fee tiers (DMA Awards; UK Digital Excellence Awards entry information). These examples show why you should check the target programme’s current official terms rather than plan from a prior cycle.
