For a compact Tamil-song library, encode source files at a lower bitrate only after listening to representative tracks; for the YouTube live feed, use a live-compatible audio codec and YouTube’s live settings. YouTube recommends AAC or MP3 over RTMP/RTMPS, 128 kbps stereo audio, and 44.1 kHz stereo. Keep the visual modest, check stream health, and clear live-use rights for every song before going on air.
Separate library encoding from live-stream encoding
There are two different jobs: storing your songs efficiently and sending the live feed to YouTube. A lower-bitrate library can use less storage, but it does not change YouTube’s live ingest recommendations. For RTMP/RTMPS live streaming, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends constant bitrate (CBR), 128 kbps for stereo audio, and 44.1 kHz for stereo. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

Do not choose Opus for an RTMP/RTMPS feed just because YouTube lists it in its separate upload guidance. Uploading a video and sending a live stream are different workflows; follow the live guide for the stream.

Choose a smaller source-file bitrate carefully
Bitrate is one of the main factors that determines audio file size. Using decimal megabytes and ignoring small container overhead, the approximate sizes are:

The figures are bitrate-by-time calculations, not measured file sizes or sound-quality tests. Actual size varies slightly with encoding and container overhead. Tamil is a language and repertoire, not a special codec setting: the right library quality depends on each recording, arrangement, and what your listeners expect. Compare a few demanding examples—such as dense percussion, bright vocals, and quieter passages—on the devices your audience is likely to use.
If your recordings are already compressed, converting them to another lossy format or a lower bitrate cannot restore lost detail and may introduce additional loss. Keep an untouched original where practical, encode a short sample first, and compare it before converting the full library. Set up the live feed for YouTube
Audio
- Use AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS live ingest.
- Set the live audio to CBR, stereo, 44.1 kHz, and 128 kbps, matching YouTube’s published recommendation.
- Do not assume that a smaller source file should be sent at the same low bitrate live. The library preset and live encoder setting solve different problems.
Video for a low-motion music stream
A music stream still needs a video signal, but a static image or slowly changing visual does not usually need a high-resolution, high-motion feed. YouTube’s H.264 live guidance lists 4 Mbps for both 480p30 and 360p30, with 0.4 Mbps as the minimum for 360p30. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. These are published encoder settings, not a guarantee that your connection can sustain a stream; test the actual feed and available upload capacity before running continuously. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers. You do not need to create separate live encodes just to supply different playback resolutions.

Test and monitor before leaving the stream running
- Prepare a short test stream with the intended playlist, visual, audio codec, and live settings.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health information for configuration warnings. The API documentation describes diagnostics for issues such as audio bitrate, sample rate, and codec: YouTube Live Streaming API stream health.
- Listen to the stream from a viewer’s device and check for clipping, silence, channel imbalance, or interruptions.
- Make a reconnect or restart plan. A continuous encoder process can fail or lose its connection, so do not assume it will remain healthy indefinitely.
For a 24/7 feed, distinguish the continuous live stream from an individual broadcast event. YouTube’s API documentation explains how a separate broadcast can be completed while a continuous feed continues: YouTube’s continuous broadcast guide.

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends keeping a local archive as a backup, and warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Clear rights before encoding and broadcasting
Encoding a song does not give you permission to broadcast it. YouTube’s live-stream terms make the provider responsible for having the rights needed to exploit the live content, including music rights involving artists, labels, publishers, and other participants. Confirm that your permission covers a continuous live broadcast and the territories where viewers may watch.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted content. It may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even if a channel is licensed, the rights owner may need to add the channel to an allowlist for the live stream to avoid interruption. Read YouTube’s live copyright guidance and its Terms of Service before going live.
Creator Music is not a shortcut for a live music feed: YouTube says its tracks are for long-form videos, not live streams. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are also separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policies say highly repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible, and cite collections of songs from different artists as an example even when the uploader has permission.
