On the Xiaomi 14T, enable OTG at Settings > Additional settings > OTG, then connect your accessory with an adapter that matches the phone’s port. The exact setting and its behavior vary by model and software version; if your Xiaomi has no OTG switch, search Settings for “OTG” and check guidance for your specific model.
Turn on OTG on the Xiaomi 14T
- Open Settings.
- Tap Additional settings.
- Tap OTG and enable the switch.
- Connect the USB accessory using an OTG adapter that fits your phone’s port.
- For a supported storage drive, open the phone’s file manager and look for the connected storage.
Xiaomi’s Global support instructions for the Xiaomi 14T say OTG turns off automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity. Enable it shortly before connecting a device. Xiaomi’s Xiaomi 14T OTG instructions give the model-specific steps.

What if there is no OTG switch?
Do not assume the phone is faulty or that the menu is simply hidden. OTG availability and settings vary across Xiaomi models and software versions. Open Settings and search for “OTG”; if no result appears, look up the support guidance for your exact model and software. Xiaomi’s older general guidance says the OTG switch was removed in MIUI 11 and later, but that historical note should not be treated as a universal description of every current Xiaomi phone. Choose the right adapter and accessory
An OTG adapter connects the phone’s USB-C or Micro-USB port to a standard USB accessory. Check the physical connector on your phone before choosing an adapter; USB-C and Micro-USB adapters are not interchangeable. Xiaomi lists flash drives, external hard drives, keyboards, mice and game controllers among typical OTG peripherals, but support depends on the phone and accessory. - Storage: A drive may need a single partition formatted as FAT32 where the phone requires it. This is general Xiaomi compatibility advice, not a guarantee that every model accepts every drive.
- Power: Some accessories draw more power than the phone can provide. A powered hub may be worth considering for multiple devices or higher power needs, but it does not guarantee compatibility.
- Compatibility: Sufficient power alone may not make a peripheral work. Non-standard protocols or a required driver unavailable on the phone can also prevent recognition.
Fix a Xiaomi phone that does not recognize a USB device
- Check OTG support and the switch. Confirm your model supports OTG. If it has a toggle, enable it before attaching the accessory; Xiaomi gives this advice for the REDMI Note 14 Pro+ 5G as well as the Xiaomi 14T. See Xiaomi UK’s REDMI Note 14 Pro+ 5G guidance.
- Check the adapter and connection. Make sure the adapter matches the phone’s port and is intended for OTG. Try another cable or adapter if available.
- Check the drive format. If a flash drive is not detected, check whether it has one partition and uses FAT32 if your phone requires that format.
- Restart and reconnect. Restart the phone, reconnect the device, and install any available system update.
- Try another accessory. Testing a different flash drive or peripheral can help identify whether the issue is with the phone, adapter or original device.
- Consider power and protocol requirements. A high-power accessory or one that needs an unsupported driver or protocol may not work even with a suitable OTG adapter.
OTG does not provide video output
Connecting a USB dock or adapter through OTG will not add display output or projection. Xiaomi explains that OTG uses the USB data channel and does not provide non-USB interface features such as video output. Choose a display connection only if your phone model explicitly supports one through a suitable method; an OTG adapter alone is not enough.
