What these settings control
The AllowedCharacters and DisallowedCharacters options are server-side restrictions for community and other hosted servers. They determine which playable dinosaurs members of that server can select and create.
- AllowedCharacters creates an allow-list: only the dinosaurs named in the list remain available.
- DisallowedCharacters creates a deny-list: the named dinosaurs are blocked while other available dinosaurs remain selectable.
A dinosaur blocked with DisallowedCharacters is removed from players’ Character Menu and cannot be created on that server. With an allow-list, an official dinosaur that is released later will also be unavailable until the administrator adds it.

These options do not provide a global switch for removing playable dinosaurs from official servers. They apply to the configuration of the community or hosted server you administer.
Before you edit the server
- Make sure you have administrator access to the server files or its hosting control panel.
- Stop the server completely. The Path of Titans Hosting Wiki states that the server must be stopped while server files are edited.
- Keep a copy of the original
Game.inibefore changing it. A backup lets you restore the previous configuration if a typo or unwanted restriction appears. - Decide whether you need a short deny-list or a tightly controlled allow-list. The choice affects future dinosaur releases and how much maintenance the server requires.
Step-by-step: edit Game.ini
- Stop the community server. Do not edit the file while the server is running. Changes are applied only after the edited file is saved and the server is restarted.
- Open
Game.ini. The relevant configuration section is[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession]. On a Windows server managed through Nitrado, the documented path ispathoftitans/PathOfTitans/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/Game.ini. Other hosts may expose the same file through a web-based file manager rather than a visible Windows folder tree. - Go to, or create, the game-session section. Place the dinosaur entries under
[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession], not in an unrelated section. - Add one entry per dinosaur. Use exactly one line for each dinosaur, with either the allow-list or deny-list format shown below.
- Save the file. Check that the editor did not add extra quotation marks, bullets, or formatting characters.
- Start or restart the server. Players must connect after the restart for the restriction to be loaded.
Allow only selected dinosaurs
Use this format when the server should offer a deliberately limited roster:
AllowedCharacters=DinosaurNameRepeat the line for every dinosaur that should remain playable. For example:
[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession]
AllowedCharacters=Struthiomimus
AllowedCharacters=SuchomimusIn this example, only the listed official dinosaurs are enabled through the allow-list. Any other dinosaur that would normally be available is excluded until it is added to the file.
Disable selected dinosaurs
Use this format when most dinosaurs should remain available and only particular choices need to be blocked:
DisallowedCharacters=DinosaurNameFor example:
[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession]
DisallowedCharacters=SpinosaurusPlayers will not see Spinosaurus in the Character Menu on that server and cannot create it there, while other permitted dinosaurs remain available.

Allow-list versus deny-list

Choose an allow-list for a themed server, a ruleset with a fixed roster, or an event where every playable option must be approved. Choose a deny-list when the server should follow the normal roster but exclude a small number of dinosaurs.

Do not assume that placing both types in the same file produces a particular precedence order; if you need predictable behavior, choose one policy and remove entries from the other before testing.
Use the exact dinosaur name
The value after the equals sign must match the dinosaur name recognized by the game. The safest method is to copy the spelling shown in the in-game character-creation menu. Avoid adding punctuation, display labels, spaces that are not part of the name, or a nickname used by your community.
Each option needs its own line. This is valid:
AllowedCharacters=Struthiomimus
AllowedCharacters=SuchomimusThis is not an equivalent replacement:
AllowedCharacters=Struthiomimus,SuchomimusKeeping one dinosaur per line also makes later updates and troubleshooting easier.
Modded dinosaurs
Modded creatures may use an internal name that differs from the name shown in a server announcement or workshop description. Check the mod’s description for the required internal name or ask the mod creator. Then enter that name after AllowedCharacters= or DisallowedCharacters=, with one entry per line.

If a modded creature does not appear after you add it, first verify that the mod is installed and enabled on the server, then verify the internal spelling supplied by the creator. A display name alone may not be the identifier the server reads.

What players see after a restriction is active
A dinosaur is missing from Character Menu
When a dinosaur is listed under DisallowedCharacters, it does not appear as a selectable character and cannot be created. This is expected behavior, not a client installation problem.
With AllowedCharacters, every unlisted dinosaur is intentionally absent. Check the file before telling players to reinstall the game or remove local data.
A newly released dinosaur is unavailable
This is normal on an allow-listed server. The list is an explicit approval roster, so a new official release remains blocked until an administrator adds its exact name and restarts the server.
On a deny-listed server, new official dinosaurs remain available by default. They become unavailable only after an administrator adds them to DisallowedCharacters.
A listed dinosaur still appears
Check the following in order:
- The server was stopped before the edit.
- The entry is under
[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession]. - The spelling matches the game’s character name or the mod’s internal name.
- The entry uses the exact key, including capitalization:
AllowedCharactersorDisallowedCharacters. - Every dinosaur has its own line.
- The file was saved in the server’s active configuration location, rather than in a downloaded copy or a similarly named local file.
- The server was restarted after saving, and players joined a fresh session afterward.
Common configuration mistakes and fixes
Editing while the server is running
A running server may continue using the previously loaded configuration. Stop it, make the change, save the file, and restart it. The Hosting Wiki specifically requires this stop-save-restart sequence for edits to take effect.
Putting the line in the wrong section
The dinosaur controls belong in the IGameSession section. If the section header is missing, add it exactly as shown:

[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession]Do not place the entries inside an unrelated server, map, or mod section.
Using a combined line
Configuration entries are repeated keys, not a comma-separated roster. Write one complete AllowedCharacters=... or DisallowedCharacters=... line for each dinosaur.
Using the wrong name
A typo, an outdated name, or a mod’s public display name can prevent the rule from matching. Copy the official spelling from the character menu, or obtain the internal identifier from the mod creator.
Accidentally creating an allow-list
An allow-list is intentionally restrictive. If you add one AllowedCharacters line while expecting all other dinosaurs to remain available, the result may be surprising: only the listed entries are approved. For a server that should block just one or two choices, use DisallowedCharacters instead.
Editing the wrong server instance
Hosts can expose separate files for different servers, regions, or game instances. Confirm the server name or instance identifier in the hosting panel before editing. A correct line in an inactive instance has no effect on the server your players use.

Maintaining the roster over time
Treat the configuration as part of the server’s ruleset. Record why each dinosaur was added or blocked, especially if several administrators share access. Keep a dated backup before major roster changes and test the result with an administrator account before announcing it to players.
Allow-lists require a release checklist: after an official dinosaur becomes available in the game, decide whether it belongs in your server’s approved roster and add it if appropriate. Deny-lists require the opposite check: review new releases only when you want to exclude one.
When changing policy, remove obsolete lines rather than leaving contradictory or duplicate entries scattered through the file. A clean section makes it clear which dinosaurs are intentionally managed and reduces the chance of editing the wrong line later.
What this setting does not change
The configuration controls character availability on the server. It does not document a player-side switch for removing dinosaurs from official servers, and changing a local game setting cannot alter another host’s roster.

DisallowedCharacters=SpinosaurusFor an operational server, use a single, clearly defined policy and test how your host handles the resulting roster. The essential syntax is unchanged: the section header, one exact dinosaur name per line, a saved file, and a server restart.
