To enable HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color on an LG OLED, turn it on for the HDMI port connected to your device. Depending on the TV’s model and software, look under All Settings → Picture → Additional Settings or Detailed Settings → General. LG’s menu paths vary by model, so use your TV’s manual if neither matches.
Turn on the setting for the connected HDMI port
- Identify the input. Note which HDMI port connects to the console, set-top box, PC, or other source you want to use.
- Open the TV settings. In LG’s 2020 webOS 5.0 example, go to All Settings → Picture → Additional Settings → HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color. Switch on the HDMI port used by your device. LG’s game-mode instructions document this path and note that screen content may differ by model.
- If that path is missing, check the other documented location. LG’s external-device troubleshooting guide places the option under Detailed Settings → General → HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color. Turn on the relevant port, then restart the TV to finish applying the change. LG’s 4K troubleshooting guide gives this path.
- Test the source. Play content or open the device output you were trying to use. If the option is absent or labels differ, look up the exact model’s manual or support page rather than assuming another LG OLED uses the same menu.
What the setting does—and why it is per input
HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color enables the selected HDMI connection to handle supported high-resolution video signals. It is configured for the port connected to the source, so enabling it on one input does not mean you have enabled it on every HDMI input. Switch it on for the device you intend to use; there is no need to change unrelated ports unless you also need the feature on those connections.

LG presents the setting as part of accessing 4K content from an external device, but turning it on alone does not guarantee a 4K picture. The source must transmit a 4K signal, and the connection must support the signal being sent.

If 4K still does not appear
- Check the source output. Confirm the external device is set to transmit 4K. In its set-top-box troubleshooting instructions, LG says to check for an output resolution of 2160p at 60fps; this is a value in that guide, not a universal setting for every source or TV.
- Check the cable and connection. LG’s US 4K troubleshooting guide recommends checking for an HDMI 2.0-or-higher cable. Verify the cable and connected devices support the signal you are trying to use before replacing anything.
- Confirm the correct input is enabled. Make sure you switched on the HDMI port actually used by the source, not another port.
- Restart if following the external-device path. LG’s guide for that menu path says to restart the TV after enabling the option.
When to turn it off
Leave the option off for a connected device if enabling it causes problems. LG’s owner’s manual warns that a device without Ultra HD Deep Color support may not work properly and advises turning the feature off if an issue occurs. The manual’s warning is a compatibility caution, not evidence that every older device will fail.

LG also notes that video may flicker temporarily when game optimization starts and that some picture settings may be unavailable while HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color is on. If the source continues to behave incorrectly, turn the setting off for that port and consult the manuals for the specific TV and device.
Why LG OLED menu instructions can differ
LG publishes more than one path for this option, and its support pages caution that menus and screen images can differ by model. Treat the paths above as examples, not as a single universal OLED menu. The exact model’s manual or LG support page is the best guide when the labels or available options do not match.
