To empty the main bin on a Samsung phone, open My Files > Recycle bin > More (the three-dot menu) > Empty, then confirm. Check the contents first: emptying permanently deletes the selected items. If you only want to remove photos or videos, you can manage them directly in Gallery instead.
Empty the main bin in My Files
- Open My Files.
- Tap Recycle bin. Depending on your phone’s software or regional version, it may be called Trash.
- Review the files and restore anything you want to keep.
- Tap More (three vertical dots), then tap Empty.
- Confirm the deletion if prompted.
Samsung’s updated My Files bin can show deleted items from My Files, Gallery, and Voice Recorder on supported software versions. The labels and availability can differ by device and software version. Samsung’s support instructions for the updated bin describe the My Files route.

Delete only selected files, or restore them
In My Files > Recycle bin, tap Edit, select individual files or All, then choose Delete to remove them or Restore to return them. Use Restore before emptying if you find an item you still need.

Empty photos and videos from Gallery
For photos or videos, open Gallery > Menu (three horizontal lines) > Recycle bin. Tap Edit, select items or all items, then choose Delete or Delete All and confirm. Samsung US also documents a shortcut on some versions: Gallery > Menu > Trash > More options > Empty > Delete. Follow the labels shown on your phone; menus vary by model and software.

Samsung Canada says deleted Gallery items remain in the Bin for 30 days before automatic permanent deletion; this stated retention period applies to Gallery items, not necessarily every category in every software version. Samsung Canada support was updated June 18, 2026. For Gallery restoration, open Gallery > Menu > Recycle bin > Edit, select items, then tap Restore or Restore All.

If you cannot find Recycle bin or Trash
- Check both the My Files and Gallery menus; names and placement can vary.
- Look in the Device care storage-management area for deleted items grouped by app. Samsung’s storage-space guide describes this route and the Gallery Trash shortcut.
- Samsung says the recycle-bin function cannot be turned off. The feature’s availability and exact labels still depend on device software. Samsung UK support documents the My Files process in the One UI 6.0 context.
