WordPress supports SoundCloud as a sanctioned oEmbed provider, so you do not need a plugin for the basic workflow.
What you need before embedding
- A WordPress post or page that you can edit.
- A public SoundCloud track, playlist, or album URL.
- The SoundCloud sharing link, copied from the track’s Share dialog.
The person adding the embed does not need a SoundCloud account. Private or otherwise unavailable content cannot be embedded through this documented workflow.
How to embed a SoundCloud track
- Open the SoundCloud track. Select Share and copy the link.
- Open the WordPress editor. Edit the post or page where the player should appear.
- Add the SoundCloud block. Open the block inserter and choose SoundCloud or SoundCloud Embed. You can also type
/SoundCloudin a new paragraph to find the block. - Paste the URL. Insert the copied SoundCloud link into the block.
- Select Embed. WordPress should request the embed data and show a player preview in the editor.
- Preview the page. Check the published or preview version to confirm that the player displays correctly on the front end.
Embedding a playlist or album
Use the same procedure for a SoundCloud playlist or album: copy that collection’s URL from Share, paste it into the SoundCloud Embed block, and choose Embed. WordPress documents that the resulting player can display the collection’s complete track list.
Adjusting width and responsive behavior
Select the embedded block to expose its layout controls. The SoundCloud block supports these alignment options:

The block’s media setting controls resizing on smaller screens. WordPress documents responsive behavior as enabled by default, preserving the embed’s aspect ratio. Your theme’s layout and CSS can still affect the final appearance, so check a narrow screen in the preview.
Why WordPress can embed SoundCloud without a plugin
WordPress uses oEmbed for supported services. In the protocol’s documented model, a site such as a blog asks a provider for the HTML needed to display that provider’s content. WordPress’s provider reference lists SoundCloud as sanctioned, which is why the native block can turn a valid SoundCloud URL into an embedded player.
This is an embed of third-party content, not an upload to the WordPress Media Library. The audio remains hosted by SoundCloud, while your page contains the information needed to display its player.
When a SoundCloud URL will not embed
If WordPress reports that the content could not be embedded, work through these checks:

- Confirm the content is public. A private or inaccessible track cannot provide a normal public embed.
- Copy the link again from SoundCloud. Return to the item’s Share dialog and use that URL rather than a shortened, incomplete, or unrelated address.
- Try the URL in a fresh SoundCloud block. Remove the failed block, add another SoundCloud Embed block, paste the link, and select Embed again.
- Use a regular link if embedding remains unavailable. WordPress documents converting the block to a link as the fallback when a URL cannot be embedded.
- Check the front end, not only the editor. A preview can be affected by theme width rules, caching, or other site configuration even when the URL is valid.
WordPress applies security restrictions to providers outside its sanctioned provider list, so a random embed address is not guaranteed to work merely because it resembles a media URL. SoundCloud’s supported provider status applies to the documented SoundCloud URL workflow.

For one or more standard SoundCloud players, the native block is the simplest choice. An optional plugin is mainly useful when you need appearance controls beyond the built-in block.

Installing the plugin is not a prerequisite for SoundCloud oEmbed. Treat it as a customization route, not as a fix required for ordinary embedding.
