To dry out a Samsung phone safely, unplug it, disconnect accessories, and follow the steps for its exact Galaxy model. Never charge it while wet, and do not use heat or compressed air. Water-resistant models and non-water-resistant models need different treatment—especially after contact with dirty liquids—and a dry exterior does not rule out internal damage.
First, stop power and remove accessories
- Unplug the charger. Do not connect a cable or accessory until the phone and charging port are completely dry. A moisture warning is a protective measure, not a prompt to override.
- Disconnect accessories and wipe visible moisture from the outside with a soft, clean cloth. Do not push anything into the charging port.
- Identify the exact model and its water-resistance guidance. Resistance varies by model and region. Check the model’s manual and local Samsung support page before deciding whether rinsing is appropriate.
If your water-resistant Galaxy got wet
Wipe the phone with a soft, clean cloth and let it dry completely in a well-ventilated place. Keep the charging cable disconnected until the phone and port are dry. Damp speakers, microphones, or receiver openings can temporarily affect audio or call quality while they dry.

If the liquid was dirty or contaminated
Samsung’s rinse guidance applies only to water-resistant models. If one was exposed to dirty water or a liquid such as soap water, oil, perfume, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, cosmetics, or an alcohol-containing liquid, Samsung advises rinsing it in clean water for 1 to 3 minutes, then wiping it with a soft, clean cloth and drying it completely. Do not apply this advice to a model that is not water-resistant.

- Turn the phone off immediately.
- Remove the SIM card, SD card, removable accessories, and removable battery if the model has one.
- Wipe moisture from the exterior and arrange Samsung service inspection as soon as possible.
- If you cannot reach service immediately, leave the phone in a cool, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Do not turn it back on just because the outside feels dry; moisture may remain inside.
If a water-drop icon appears or cable charging is blocked
Unplug the charger. For a moisture warning, Samsung advises wiping the phone with a dry cloth, gently shaking it 5–10 times with the port facing down, then leaving it in a well-ventilated area or using a fan. Restart only when the phone is completely dry. High humidity can also trigger the warning, but do not charge through it while the port may still be wet.

What not to do while drying it
- Do not use a hair dryer, heater, or other external heat source.
- Do not blow compressed air into the phone or port.
- Do not use chemical cleaners or abrasive materials.
- Do not force a tissue, cotton swab, or other object into the charging port.
- Do not assume the phone is safe because it powers on or seems to work normally.
Samsung warns that improper cleaning or drying can cause discoloration, corrosion, or permanent damage. A cloth can remove surface moisture; it cannot dry internal components or repair liquid damage.
What water resistance does—and does not—mean
Water resistance is not the same as waterproofing. Samsung Canada’s 2026 guidance describes reference conditions of 30 minutes at 1 meter for IPX7 and 30 minutes at 1.5 meters for IPX8; its IPX8 test description specifies still fresh water and testing against IEC 60529 requirements. These figures are not a rating for every Galaxy phone or a guarantee against all liquids, pressure, exposure durations, impacts, or wear. Samsung says support varies by model and region, and resistance can weaken over time.

Check the exact model’s documentation rather than inferring its rating from the Galaxy name or appearance. Even a rated device may need inspection after exposure: Samsung warns that internal damage or corrosion can occur even when a phone appears to work normally, and recommends having it inspected after water exposure.
When to seek service
Arrange Samsung service inspection if liquid may have entered the phone, the model is not water-resistant, or a warning or other problem persists after the device is fully dry. Stop using and charging it if symptoms continue. Samsung does not provide a general repair price or turnaround time for every case; those depend on the model and the service assessment.
