You can download an eligible video directly from X: open the video, tap its three-dot menu, and select Download video. X limits this option to Premium subscribers and certain posts; the person who posted the video can disable downloads.
Download an eligible video from an X post
- Open the post containing the video in X.
- Tap the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner of the video.
- Tap Download video.
X says Premium subscribers can download videos from certain posts. Its help page describes the feature for offline viewing and remixing: How to share and watch videos on X.

Why “Download video” may be missing
The option depends on the post, its uploader’s settings, and the account viewing it.

- The post may not be eligible. X limits downloads to certain posts and says the feature is available to Premium subscribers.
- The uploader may have disabled downloads. X says videos uploaded from July 25, 2023 are downloadable by Premium subscribers unless the uploader turns off the option while composing the post. The uploader cannot change that setting for that post later; to disable downloads for future viewers after publishing, they must delete the post.
- The account may belong to someone under 18. X says video downloading is automatically turned off for these accounts, and the setting cannot be changed.
If the control is absent, these are the limits to check. X’s documentation does not establish that another downloader can override them.

Get videos and other media from your own account
For media attached to your own posts, Direct Messages, or Moments, request an archive of your X account. X says the archive may include images, videos, and GIFs, and that preparing it may take a few days.
- Open Settings and privacy and go to the account or data controls for downloading your archive.
- Verify your identity and request the archive.
- After X notifies you that it is ready, download the ZIP file.

Be cautious with apps that ask for X access
Third-party apps are external to X. Depending on the permissions you grant, an app may be able to read posts, publish posts, access Direct Messages, or view your email address. Review the permissions before connecting an app, and revoke access you no longer want through X’s connected-app controls.
