To watch a Prime Video movie offline, open the Prime Video app on a supported device, go to the movie’s detail page, and select Download if that option is available. Downloads are title- and device-dependent; they are not available for every movie or through every way of watching Prime Video.
What you need before downloading
- A supported device and app: Amazon lists Fire tablets and the Prime Video apps for iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows 10 or 11. Availability can vary by location. See Amazon’s download help.
- A title with downloads enabled: Check the movie’s detail page. Amazon says it indicates whether a subscription title can be downloaded; licensing and title availability can differ.
- Available storage: Android and Windows apps let you choose a save location. Amazon does not recommend USB-connected drives for downloads, so do not assume an external drive will work for saving or playback.
Download a movie in the Prime Video app
- Install or open the Prime Video app on a supported Fire tablet, iOS or Android device, Mac, or Windows 10/11 device.
- Search for the movie and open its detail page.
- Select Download if the option appears. If it does not, that title may not be eligible for download on your device or in your location.
- Wait for the download to finish while you are online. Then open the app’s downloads or library area to find and play it offline. The exact menu label may vary between app versions.
For TV episodes and seasons
To download a series, open the show in the app. Amazon says you can choose to download an entire season or use the download icon beside an individual episode. The movie-detail-page steps do not apply to every series screen.

How long downloads stay available
Subscription downloads are temporary. Amazon’s Prime Video Usage Rules say viewers will typically have 30 days after downloading to begin watching, then typically 48 hours to finish once playback starts. These are usual windows, not a guarantee for every title or region; check the title and current terms in your account.

A subscription title can be downloaded to at most two devices at one time under the usage rules. If you reach that limit, delete the title from one device before downloading it to another. Amazon also says the total number of concurrent title downloads can vary by location and other factors.

If your Prime or Prime Video subscription, including a promotional trial, expires or is cancelled, subscription titles are no longer available through that subscription. Rentals and purchases have different terms: rentals have a limited viewing period, while a purchased title is generally available for download when the option is offered, subject to licensing and applicable terms. Check the specific title’s detail page and Amazon’s rental and purchase information.
Can you watch a downloaded movie on a TV?
Amazon says downloaded content cannot be played through Chromecast or AirPlay. Offline TV playback may work with compatible devices and appropriate adapters, but that does not mean every television or adapter combination is supported. For the simplest offline option, play the download in the Prime Video app on the device where it was saved.
