Short answer: there is no verified official way to redownload P.T. once it has disappeared from your PlayStation library. GameSpot reported on May 6, 2015 that the demo had been removed from PlayStation servers and produced a “Cannot download” error even for some users who had previously added it to their PS4 library. You can still run PlayStation’s standard account, library, transaction-history and license checks, but those procedures do not guarantee that P.T. will return.
Why P.T. may be visible but unavailable
A PlayStation library entry and an available download package are not the same thing. A title can remain associated with an account record while the file is no longer offered by the service. PlayStation’s general support instructions explain how to find missing purchases and refresh licenses; they do not override a publisher’s removal of a title or restore a package that is no longer hosted.

That distinction is especially important for P.T. GameSpot’s May 6, 2015 report said the demo had been removed from PlayStation servers and could not be downloaded, including by people who had already added it to their PS4 library. The report described the error as “Cannot download” and noted that Konami had announced the demo’s removal from the PlayStation Store in April 2015. This is historical reporting rather than a current Sony availability notice, but it explains why the normal library button can fail.
Recommended Free Tools
TechRadar later reported that Konami told GamesRadar P.T. would not be available on the PlayStation Store and therefore could not be redownloaded to PS5 through backward compatibility. That is secondary reporting of a past publisher statement. It does not establish the result of every possible PS4-to-PS4 transfer or every account configuration.

Run the official checks before assuming the download is gone
These checks are free and are the only recovery steps documented by PlayStation for missing purchased or library content. They are general procedures, not P.T.-specific promises.
1. Sign in with the original account
Use the PlayStation account that originally added the demo. Sony’s general redownload guidance says the account used to acquire Store content is required. If several accounts exist on the console, sign out and verify the account’s online ID before checking the library again.
This check proves only that you are looking at the correct account record. It does not prove that P.T.’s download package is still available.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2. Inspect transaction history
PlayStation lists transaction-history checks for content that is missing from a library. Look for the account’s historical P.T. entry or the relevant Store transaction. The presence of a record can confirm which account was used, but it cannot force a removed title back onto the Store.
3. Check hidden games and library filters
A game can be hidden rather than deleted. Review the console’s hidden-content or hidden-games list and clear filters that restrict the displayed library. If P.T. appears after being unhidden, select it and test the download normally.

If the listing is present but selecting it immediately returns “Cannot download,” that behavior is consistent with the historical server-removal report. Treat the message as evidence that the ordinary download route is unavailable, not as proof that a local setting is wrong.
4. Restore licenses
License restoration can correct missing or locked content when the account entitlement is intact.

|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses | Refreshes account licenses for games or add-ons that are missing or showing a lock. | It does not establish that P.T.’s removed package will be restored. |
| PS4 | Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses | Refreshes licenses associated with the signed-in account. | It cannot make an unavailable Store download available. |
After restoring licenses, restart the console, sign in again, and check the library. If P.T. still cannot download, repeating the same operation is unlikely to change the title’s server availability.
5. Check console-sharing or primary-console settings
PlayStation’s missing-content guidance also includes checking console sharing on PS5 or the primary PS4 activation on PS4. These settings matter when another account owns the content or when access depends on the console being designated correctly. Correcting them may resolve ordinary entitlement problems; the instructions do not say they can restore P.T. after its removal.
What each result means
| Result | Most likely interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| P.T. is absent, and there is no matching account history | You may be using a different account, or the account never recorded the content. | Check every account that may have added it, then review transaction history. |
| P.T. is hidden | The library display was suppressing the entry. | Unhide it and try the download once. |
| P.T. is listed but shows “Cannot download” | The historical removal from PlayStation servers is a plausible explanation. | Complete license restoration, then contact PlayStation Support if you need the error documented. |
| Other games are also locked or missing | The problem may be account, activation or license related rather than specific to P.T. | Check console-sharing or primary-console settings and restore licenses. |
| Only P.T. fails while other downloads work | The title’s own availability is more likely to be the limiting factor. | Do not assume network changes or replacement hardware will solve it. |
Contacting PlayStation Support
If the checks fail, contact PlayStation Support and provide the exact account, console model, library status and error text. Include whether P.T. appears in transaction history, whether it is hidden, and the date and time of the failed attempt. Support can confirm whether an account or license issue exists and can record the failure.

Do not approach support expecting a guaranteed restoration. PlayStation’s published troubleshooting pages cover general missing content; they do not promise that support can reinstate P.T. or supply a download package that is no longer on the service.
Can P.T. be moved from an old PS4?
The answer depends on what is physically and digitally available, and there is no current official procedure that guarantees success.
If the old PS4 still has a working installation
Do not delete the installation while experimenting with account or storage settings. A console that already contains the data is a different situation from an account that merely shows a library record. No official documentation establishes that every transfer tool, backup, or console-to-console process will preserve a playable P.T. installation, so no transfer method should be presented as dependable.
If you are moving to another PS4
PlayStation’s ordinary transfer and backup features are designed for supported games and system data. No official documentation verifies a P.T.-specific transfer path, nor does it establish that a transferred installation will validate on another console. Before changing hardware, confirm what data remains on the original PS4 and avoid wiping it until you understand the risk.
If you are moving to PS5
TechRadar reported that P.T. would not be available from the PlayStation Store on PS5 through backward compatibility. That report does not verify every possible PS4 transfer scenario, but it does mean a PS5 library entry should not be treated as a normal backward-compatible download entitlement.

Why common internet “fixes” are not reliable answers
Various claims circulate about changing DNS servers, using a proxy, attaching an external drive, or purchasing a console advertised as having P.T. installed. No authoritative source verifies these approaches as a reproducible recovery method.
DNS or proxy changes
Changing how a console resolves or routes network traffic does not provide evidence that a removed package has become available. Such methods are anecdotal, may depend on account and server conditions, and can create new connectivity or security problems. There is no documented P.T.-specific procedure to follow or expected result to check.
External-drive copies
An external drive can store supported console data, but no official documentation establishes that copying P.T. to one will recreate a valid download or make the title launch on another system. Treat claims of guaranteed recovery as unverified.
Buying a console with P.T. installed
A used-console listing cannot make the digital download available on your account. The installation may be absent, incomplete, tied to another system state, or unusable after a reset. Because no authoritative source verifies this as a dependable recovery route, it is not a sound purchase recommendation.
What not to do
- Do not delete P.T. from a console that still contains it merely to test whether it can be downloaded again.
- Do not assume a library icon is proof that the Store package remains online.
- Do not pay for a supposed DNS, proxy or hardware “guarantee” when no official source documents the method.
- Do not reset or sell an old PS4 before checking which data and installations remain on it.
- Do not treat a support case number as confirmation that P.T. will be restored.
A practical decision path
- Sign in on the console with every account that may have added P.T., beginning with the original account.
- Review transaction history and the hidden-games list.
- Check console-sharing on PS5 or primary-console activation on PS4.
- Restore licenses using the exact menu path for your console.
- Restart, sign in again and try the library entry once.
- If the error remains, record the wording and contact PlayStation Support.
- Preserve any PS4 that still contains a working installation instead of deleting or resetting it.
If these steps do not work, the most evidence-based conclusion is that P.T. is unavailable through the normal PlayStation download service. There is no verified official method for recreating that availability, and no official source justifies spending money on an alleged workaround.
Frequently asked questions
Can I redownload P.T. if it is still in my library?
Not reliably. The 2015 GameSpot report said that even users who had added P.T. to their PS4 library received “Cannot download” after the demo was removed from PlayStation servers.
Why does P.T. say “Cannot download”?
The error is consistent with the reported removal of the demo from PlayStation servers. Confirm the account, hidden-content list, transaction history and licenses first, because those are the official checks for missing content.
Can I transfer P.T. to a new PS4 or PS5?
No transfer is officially verified for all situations. TechRadar’s report said P.T. would not be available on PS5 through backward compatibility, while no official documentation establishes every possible PS4 transfer result.

Support can investigate account, license and error details, but PlayStation’s general troubleshooting guidance does not promise that P.T. can be restored.
Is buying a console with P.T. installed a safe solution?
No dependable recovery is established for that purchase. The installation and its ability to run after a reset or account change are not guaranteed by the cited sources.
