What you need before downloading
Offline listening is an app feature rather than a general Nintendo Music file-download service. Have these four things ready:

- A compatible smartphone or tablet. Nintendo’s offline feature is described for the Nintendo Music mobile app. The app is free to download, but the music service still requires the membership listed below.
- A Nintendo Account. You must sign in to the account that will use Nintendo Music.
- An active Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo lists this membership as a requirement for Nintendo Music. The membership can be used without owning a Switch console.
- Access from a supported country or region. Availability is not worldwide. Check Nintendo’s current regional list before troubleshooting an account or device that cannot access the service: Nintendo Music regional availability.
You also need an internet connection for the initial sign-in and download. After the app has finished saving a track or playlist, you can test playback with Wi-Fi and mobile data turned off.

How to download a soundtrack in the Nintendo Music app
Nintendo’s official pages confirm the capability but do not guarantee identical taps or wording for every operating-system and app release. Follow the controls visible in your version rather than looking for a menu name that may have changed.

- Install or update Nintendo Music. Use your phone or tablet’s official app store, then install the current Nintendo Music app. Updating first can make the controls described by Nintendo available in your release.
- Open the app and sign in. Use the Nintendo Account linked to your active Nintendo Switch Online membership. If the app asks you to choose a region or accept current terms, complete that setup before trying to save music.
- Choose the music. Browse or search for a game soundtrack, individual track, playlist, or other collection offered in the app. Nintendo’s catalog changes as titles are added, so a soundtrack shown in one account or region may not appear in another.
- Open the item’s available actions. Look for the download control displayed next to the track, playlist, or collection. Depending on the current interface, it may be an icon or a labeled action. Use the control attached to the item you want available offline.
- Wait for completion. Keep the app open and connected until its progress indicator finishes or the item is visibly marked as downloaded. Starting playback while the transfer is incomplete can test streaming rather than the offline copy.
- Repeat for other music. Save each additional track or playlist from its own download control. Nintendo’s public information does not state a universal number of tracks or playlists that can be stored.
- Test without a connection. Turn on airplane mode, or separately disable Wi-Fi and mobile data, then reopen the app and play the downloaded item. Restore connectivity afterward if the app needs to refresh your account status.
If your screen uses different wording, the principle is the same: select music in the mobile app and use the download option that the current version presents. Do not assume that a browser’s save, bookmark, or download command creates a Nintendo Music offline copy.
Mobile app versus computer browser
Nintendo describes more than one way to access the service, but the offline feature is not established equally on each platform. The following distinction prevents a common mistake: opening the computer player and expecting its browser controls to save music for a flight or commute.

Nintendo’s June 1, 2026 feature update discusses listening from a phone, tablet, computer, or car, but that broader access description does not turn the browser player into a confirmed offline-download method. For the currently documented offline workflow, use the app on a compatible phone or tablet: Nintendo’s June 1, 2026 update.
Do you need Nintendo Switch Online or a Switch console?
You need an active Nintendo Switch Online membership and a Nintendo Account. You do not need to own or use a Nintendo Switch console to download Nintendo Music on your phone or tablet. The console is not the download device; the compatible mobile app is.

Membership status matters when you first set up the service and when the app checks access. If the account shown in the app belongs to a different Nintendo Account than the one with Nintendo Switch Online, sign-in can appear successful while the music service remains unavailable. Check the account identity and membership status before reinstalling the app or changing phone settings.
Nintendo’s current US overview advertises a seven-day Nintendo Switch Online free trial. The displayed US terms say the trial automatically converts to a one-month, auto-renewing membership unless it is canceled and also list eligibility restrictions. Check regional availability before you troubleshoot
Nintendo Music is not offered in every country. A missing app, unavailable catalog, or message that the service cannot be used may be a regional restriction rather than a broken download.

- Find your account’s country or region in the current list.
- Confirm that the Nintendo Account, app-store account, and device region are not being mistaken for one another. Changing a device’s language alone does not establish service eligibility.
- If your region is not listed, do not rely on a VPN, a sideloaded application, or a second-hand account as an official workaround. Nintendo’s support page is the authority for where the service is offered.
The availability page was updated June 2, 2026, but regional lists can change. Recheck it when the app becomes available or unavailable unexpectedly.

What Nintendo has and has not documented about downloads
Nintendo’s published descriptions establish that selected music can be downloaded in the mobile app for offline listening. They do not establish several details that readers often expect from a conventional music-file download:
- No universal quota is published. The official information located for this service does not specify a maximum number of tracks, playlists, albums, or total hours that one account can save.
- No storage path is published. Nintendo does not identify a user-browsable folder or promise that downloads appear as ordinary audio files in the phone’s file manager.
- No export format is promised. Treat the saved content as app-managed offline listening, not as MP3, AAC, or other files that can be copied to another player.
- No retention period is stated. The available descriptions do not say exactly how long a download remains playable without an account check or what happens immediately after a Nintendo Switch Online membership expires.
- No browser-download feature is confirmed. Computer access is described for listening and browsing, while offline downloads are specifically confirmed for the mobile app.
These omissions do not mean the feature is unreliable; they mean you should not plan storage, travel access, or a long membership pause around an undocumented limit. Download only what you need, verify it in airplane mode before leaving, and keep the membership active for the period in which you expect access.
How much music is available?
Nintendo’s current overview advertises more than 250 hours of Nintendo game music across more than 130 titles. Those are catalog figures presented by Nintendo and may increase as additional soundtracks are added. They are not a guarantee that every title is available in every region or that every track can be downloaded individually.

Troubleshooting offline downloads
The download control is missing
- Confirm that you are in the mobile app, not a computer browser or a browser tab on a phone.
- Check that you are signed in to the Nintendo Account with the active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
- Verify regional availability using Nintendo’s support list.
- Update the app and reopen the soundtrack page. Nintendo does not promise one permanent button label, so look for the current item action that indicates saving or downloading.
- If only some items lack the control, the difference may be how that collection is offered. Do not assume every catalog entry has identical actions.
The download starts but never finishes
- Use a stable Wi-Fi connection and keep the device awake while the app shows progress.
- Check available device storage. Nintendo does not publish a required amount, and the app may manage its own storage, but a nearly full device can prevent any app from completing a save.
- Pause large operating-system or app-store updates, then retry one item rather than an entire playlist.
- If the item remains stuck, close and reopen the app, confirm membership status, and retry after the service is reachable. Avoid deleting all app data until you have checked whether doing so removes locally saved content.
The item plays online but not in airplane mode
- Reconnect briefly and check whether the app marks the item as fully downloaded rather than merely recently played.
- Test with both Wi-Fi and mobile data disabled; leaving one connection active can hide the fact that the app is streaming.
- Confirm that the same Nintendo Account is still signed in. A sign-out, account switch, or membership change can affect access.
- Try a short, clearly completed download to distinguish a problem with one soundtrack from a general offline-access problem.
- Nintendo has not published a universal retention rule, so an account or membership check may be required even when a previous download remains on the device.
The app or catalog is unavailable in your country
Check the regional-availability page first. If your country is absent, an app-store search result from another region does not establish official support. If your country is listed, make sure the Nintendo Account’s country and the membership are correct before treating the issue as a device failure.
You are trying to download from a browser
Switch to the Nintendo Music app on a compatible smartphone or tablet. Nintendo UK describes the browser player as a computer experience and says it cannot be used from a smart device. The official material does not confirm a browser offline-download function, so a browser’s download or save-page command is not a supported substitute.
Preparing a phone or tablet for a trip
A little preparation is more dependable than discovering the limitation after takeoff:

- Confirm the device is compatible and has enough free storage for the music you intend to save. Nintendo does not publish a per-track size or required free-space figure.
- Update Nintendo Music while you still have a reliable connection.
- Sign in and verify the correct Nintendo Account and active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
- Download a small selection first, then test those items with airplane mode enabled.
- Save additional tracks or playlists only after the first test succeeds.
- Keep the app installed and avoid clearing its storage before the trip. Because Nintendo does not document a universal storage location or recovery process, deleting app data could remove locally managed downloads.
Headphones are optional, and Nintendo does not identify external storage accessories as necessary. Physical soundtrack releases, where available, do not create offline playback inside the Nintendo Music app; the documented method is the app’s own download control.
What happens if your membership ends?
Nintendo requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership for Nintendo Music. The official descriptions available do not specify whether already-saved items continue playing for a grace period, stop immediately, or require a fresh account check after expiration. Plan on needing an active membership to use the service, and do not treat an offline copy as a permanent purchase.
If you use a free trial, remember that the US overview’s displayed terms describe automatic conversion to a one-month, auto-renewing membership unless canceled, subject to eligibility restrictions. Your local terms control, so review them in the account region where you will subscribe.
Bottom line for offline listening
Use the Nintendo Music mobile app—not the computer browser—to select a soundtrack and activate the download control shown in your current version. You need a compatible smartphone or tablet, a Nintendo Account, an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, and a supported region; you do not need a Switch console. Because Nintendo has not published universal limits, storage paths, exact button wording, or post-membership retention rules, complete the download on a reliable connection and verify playback in airplane mode before depending on it offline.
