Start at Billing > Settings. Postpay and prepay accounts open payment receipts from Billing > Summary, while invoices and statements are downloaded from Billing > Documents. Monthly invoicing customers also use Documents for invoices and Transactions for month-by-month activity.
Google may show different document types by billing country and payment method. A tax invoice, statement and payment receipt are not guaranteed to exist for the same period or account. The steps below cover each route and explain what to check when a document is missing.

Choose the route that matches your account
Before looking for a file, identify the account’s billing arrangement. Sign in to Google Ads, open Billing, choose Settings, and read the How you pay section. Google’s document options vary by this setting and by the billing country recorded for the account. If you are unsure which row applies, do not start with a general web search or with Transactions. Confirm How you pay first, then use the page associated with the record you need.

Check “How you pay” before searching
- Sign in to the Google Ads account that incurred the charges or received the payment.
- Open Billing in the navigation menu and choose Settings.
- Locate How you pay. Note whether the account is postpay, prepay or monthly invoicing.
- Also note whether you are in the account that actually pays. A user viewing a client account from a manager account may not have access to every billing record.
- Use the payment setting to choose the instructions below. If the setting changed in the past, check Billing transfers for documents created under the earlier setup.
The same Google Ads account can therefore expose different records at different times. A payment receipt is tied to an individual payment, whereas a monthly invoice or statement represents a billing document for a period. The billing country can also determine whether a local tax document is offered.
Download a payment receipt from a postpay or prepay account
Use this route when you need evidence that a particular payment was made, rather than a monthly invoice. Google’s instructions are documented in Get an invoice, statement, or payment receipt.
- Open Billing > Summary.
- Find the month that contains the payment. If the month is collapsed, expand its month card.
- Locate the individual payment in the expanded card.
- Click the payment’s link. Google opens the receipt in a new browser tab.
- Use your browser’s download or print controls to save the opened receipt according to your organization’s record-keeping process.
A receipt may be visible before a formal monthly tax invoice or statement is generated. That does not convert the receipt into an invoice: Google’s Billing Glossary states, “A payment receipt is not an invoice.”

- Confirm that you expanded the correct month card. A payment made near a month boundary may appear with the month in which Google recorded it.
- Return to Billing > Settings and verify that the account is still using the expected payment setting.
- Check whether the payment belongs to a former billing setup under Billing transfers.
- Make sure you are signed in to the paying account, not only to a related client or manager account.
- Review billing permissions. A user can have access to campaign data without having the billing access required to see payment records.
Download invoices or statements for postpay and prepay
Postpay and prepay accounts can have invoices, statements or other available documents, but the exact document list depends on the account’s country and payment arrangement. Use the Documents page rather than the Summary page when you need a document for a period or need several records at once.
- Open Billing > Documents.
- Scan the list for the required document and period.
- To download one item, click its row. The document opens or downloads according to the page’s controls and your browser settings.
- To download several items, select the checkboxes for the required rows.
- Choose Download selected.
The Documents page is the central location for available invoices and statements. If a row is present but you need to identify it precisely, use the period, document type and any document number shown in the list before opening it. Keep the account and billing setup in mind when comparing documents from different months.
Receipt versus document on the same account
Do not substitute a payment receipt for an invoice simply because both relate to the same month. A receipt proves that a payment was recorded. An invoice or statement describes charges or billing activity for a period. Google may provide one, two or all of these records—or none of a particular type—depending on local rules and the payment method.

Download an invoice from monthly invoicing
Monthly invoicing accounts follow a different billing model. The invoice itself is retrieved from Billing > Documents; you do not open an individual payment from the Summary month card to obtain it.

- Sign in to the monthly-invoicing Google Ads account or the paying manager account with billing access.
- Open Billing > Documents.
- Use the Document number column to locate the required invoice. This is safer than relying only on a month label when several documents are listed.
- Select the invoice’s checkbox.
- Choose Download selected. If you need several invoices, select each relevant checkbox before using the same command.
Save the downloaded records with your own internal naming convention if your finance process requires one. Do not assume that a monthly invoice will be accompanied by a payment receipt for the same period; the two records serve different purposes.
Review transaction-level activity for monthly invoicing
When you need individual charges, credits or other activity rather than the invoice document, open Billing > Transactions. Google describes this page in View your transactions.
- Open the monthly-invoicing account.
- Choose Billing > Transactions.
- Select or expand the month you want to inspect.
- Review the listed transaction entries and their dates and amounts in the page’s displayed time basis.
Google organizes transactions by month and displays them in Pacific Standard Time, even when the Google Ads account uses another selected time zone. If a charge appears to fall on a different local calendar date, compare it using the page’s Pacific Standard Time basis before reconciling it with your bank or internal ledger.
Transactions are a history view, not a replacement for the invoice file. Use Documents when your accounting or tax process requires the invoice itself.
Find records from an earlier billing setup
Google Ads accounts can change billing arrangements or move between billing setups. Historical records may remain attached to the former setup rather than the current one.

- Open the account’s billing area.
- Choose Billing transfers.
- Identify the earlier billing setup associated with the period you need.
- Select that setup and open its Documents, Summary or other available billing page.
- Use the postpay/prepay or monthly-invoicing instructions above, depending on the setting that applied during that period.
If you search only the current Documents page, an older invoice can appear to be missing even though it is stored under the former setup. The setup used when the charge occurred is the one that determines where the record is listed.
Use Invoices overview from a manager account
Organizations that manage several advertising accounts may have an Invoices overview page. Google’s documentation is available at About the Invoices overview Page.
Open Billing > Invoices overview when you need a manager-level view and the page is available to your account. Access depends on the manager relationship and permissions. Google lists Admin, Standard, Billing-only or Paying Manager access for certain billing information; having a manager login alone does not guarantee access to every client’s billing records.

- Open the client account directly and check Billing > Documents.
- Confirm that the manager account is the paying manager for the billing arrangement.
- Ask an administrator to verify your billing role if the page or documents are unavailable.
- Check Billing transfers if the invoice belongs to a previous setup.
Understand the three common document types

Google’s official definition is concise: “A payment receipt is not an invoice.” Read that distinction literally when submitting documents to an employer, client, tax authority or accounting team. If the request says “invoice,” download the invoice listed in Documents; if it asks for proof of payment, open the payment receipt from Summary when the account uses postpay or prepay.
Billing country controls which documents appear
Google Ads does not promise the same set of documents for every country. Local tax invoices and statements are available only where applicable, and the payment method also affects what appears. The Google Ads Help guidance explains that document options vary by payment setting and billing country.
Consequently, two accounts with the same payment setting can show different document types. Avoid treating the absence of a tax invoice in one country as evidence that the account is misconfigured. First verify the account’s billing country and then determine whether the requested document is one Google makes available there.

When a monthly tax document is not ready
Google says a local tax invoice or statement for a month generally becomes available by the fifth business day of the following month. Weekends and bank holidays can delay generation, and local availability varies. This timing applies to the cited monthly tax-document guidance; it is not a universal release deadline for every receipt, invoice or country.

If you are checking immediately after month-end, note the date you checked and return after the applicable business-day window has passed.
Troubleshoot a missing invoice, statement or receipt
1. Confirm the page matches the record
A missing payment receipt is often a page-selection problem. Postpay and prepay receipts are opened from Billing > Summary by expanding the month and selecting the payment. Invoices and statements are searched under Billing > Documents. Monthly transaction details belong under Billing > Transactions.
2. Recheck the payment setting
Return to Billing > Settings and read How you pay. If the account is monthly invoicing, do not expect a postpay/prepay payment link on Summary. If it is postpay or prepay, do not expect every monthly invoice workflow to apply.
3. Check the date window
For a local tax invoice or statement, allow for the fifth business day of the next month and possible weekends or bank holidays. A receipt for an individual payment may appear earlier, so use Summary when proof of that payment is urgent.
4. Look under Billing transfers
If the account changed billing setup, select the former setup in Billing transfers and search there. Historical records can remain associated with the arrangement in effect when the charge was created.
5. Verify you are in the paying account
Manager accounts can administer campaigns without being the account that pays Google. Open the paying account directly when possible. For multi-account organizations, check whether Invoices overview is available and whether your role is Admin, Standard, Billing-only or Paying Manager as required for the information you are trying to view.
6. Check billing permissions
Ask an administrator to verify your billing access if the Billing menu, Documents rows or invoice overview is absent. Campaign-management permission does not automatically grant access to payment records.
7. Distinguish “not available” from “not generated yet”
Some accounts will never show a particular tax document because it is not applicable in their billing country or payment arrangement. If the document type is applicable but the period is recent, wait through the stated generation window before treating it as an error.
A practical download checklist
- Record the Google Ads customer or manager account you used.
- Confirm Billing > Settings > How you pay.
- Identify whether you need a payment receipt, invoice, statement or transaction history.
- For a postpay/prepay receipt, use Billing > Summary, expand the month and open the payment link.
- For invoices or statements, use Billing > Documents.
- For monthly invoicing, locate the invoice by Document number and use Download selected.
- For transaction-level monthly-invoicing details, use Billing > Transactions and account for Pacific Standard Time.
- Check Billing transfers for older setups.
- Use Billing > Invoices overview only when your manager relationship and permissions support it.
- If a local tax document is missing, check whether the fifth business day of the following month has passed and whether weekends or bank holidays intervened.
What to do after downloading
Open each downloaded record and confirm that it belongs to the intended account and period before sending it to a finance team. Compare the document number, billing period, currency and amount with the request you received. For a payment-reconciliation request, use the payment receipt when available; for an invoice request, use the invoice from Documents. Keep the original downloaded file unchanged if your organization requires an audit trail, and store any renamed working copy separately.
When reconciling monthly-invoicing transactions, remember that Google displays the transaction month and timing in Pacific Standard Time. If your internal system uses another time zone, document that difference rather than editing the Google record to make dates appear to match.
Quick decision examples
You paid an account and need proof of that payment
Check that the account is postpay or prepay, then open Billing > Summary, expand the relevant month and select the payment. The linked receipt opens in a new tab.
Your accountant requested the invoice for a monthly-invoicing account
Open Billing > Documents, find the row by its Document number, select it and choose Download selected. Do not send a transaction-history view as a substitute for the invoice.
You need every document for a quarter
Use Billing > Documents, select the checkboxes for all available invoices or statements in the required period and choose Download selected. If some months are absent, check the payment setting, billing country, generation timing and any former billing setup.
A client asks for an invoice but you only see a receipt
Explain that Google defines a payment receipt as separate from an invoice. Search Documents for an invoice or statement, and verify whether the account’s country and payment setting make that document applicable.
