To use a downloaded ringtone on a Samsung Galaxy phone, first save a compatible audio file to the device, then open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Ringtone and select it. A song playing in Spotify or another streaming app is not a local audio file and cannot be selected directly through this setting.
Choose where your Samsung ringtone will come from

How do I download ringtones on Samsung?
Get the sound file onto the phone
Download an audio file directly to the Galaxy device, or transfer a file you already have, such as from a Windows PC. Samsung UK describes both direct downloads and PC file transfer. Streaming access alone does not provide a ringtone file: Samsung says Spotify and other streaming tracks cannot be selected directly through the ringtone flow. Check the audio format
Samsung UK lists MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC as supported formats for this process. Its instructions say an M4A file needs to be converted to one of those formats. Support for these listed formats does not mean every file or download will be recognized; if the file does not appear, check that it is on the phone and in a supported format. Set a downloaded song as the default Samsung ringtone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Sounds and vibration, then Ringtone. This is the call ringtone setting; notification and message sounds are configured separately under notification sound settings.
- If the phone has two SIMs and asks which line to configure, choose SIM 1 or SIM 2. A single-SIM phone may show only one choice.
- To use a custom file, tap Add or the plus sign, locate the audio file on the phone, select it and tap Done. To use a built-in ringtone, select it and preview it instead.
- If your phone offers Play selected highlights only, enable it to have the phone choose highlights from the song. With that option off, the song plays from its beginning. This control is not documented for every model.
Samsung’s exact labels and available controls can vary by model, software version, carrier and country. Its support pages show the main route above, but do not guarantee that every Galaxy phone will display the same options. Samsung US Samsung Canada
Assign a ringtone to one contact
To give a particular caller a different sound, open that contact’s editing view, find Ringtone, choose a built-in tone or add a local audio file, then save the contact. The precise controls differ across Samsung software versions; use the edit or contact-information controls shown on your phone. Can I use Spotify as a ringtone?
Not directly through Galaxy ringtone settings. The ringtone picker selects a local audio file, while Spotify and similar services provide streaming playback or in-app offline listening rather than a file available to that picker. Use an audio file you have downloaded or transferred to the phone and that is in a supported format; do not assume a track from a streaming subscription can be extracted or used as a ringtone. Samsung’s Galaxy Store listing for Retro 90s Phone identifies Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. as the seller and describes the sound as an official Galaxy ringtone usable as a call ringtone or alarm. The reviewed listing showed it as free, version 5.0, dated September 14, 2026; that is a time- and market-specific listing, not a guarantee of current price or availability in every region. Why isn’t my custom ringtone showing up?
- Look in Folders, not just Tracks. In the ringtone picker, switch to its folder view and browse to where the file is stored. Samsung UK recommends this if the file is not listed under Tracks.
- Confirm it is a local file in a supported format. Samsung UK lists MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC; it says M4A needs conversion. A streaming track is not a substitute for a stored audio file.
- Check which ringtone setting you opened. Calls use Ringtone; message and other alerts use notification sound settings.
- Account for device differences. Menu names, SIM choices and features depend on the model, software, carrier and market. Samsung Canada notes that default ringtone availability can vary by carrier, and Samsung Hong Kong warns that sequences and settings vary by location.
If the phone still does not ring
If the ringtone is selected but calls remain silent, Samsung recommends checking the settings and call conditions that can suppress or redirect ringing. Try these checks:
- Raise the ringtone volume and confirm the intended ringtone is assigned.
- Check whether Mute all sounds is enabled under Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements.
- Make sure Airplane mode is off, and review Do not Disturb and any relevant Modes and Routines.
- Check whether the caller is blocked or call forwarding is active; either can affect whether the phone rings as expected.
- Restart the phone and test again.
