AION 2 is live globally as of October 5, 2026. On a Windows PC, install it from the official Steam listing or install NCSOFT’s PURPLE launcher from its official download page, then choose AION 2 inside PURPLE. Both routes offer the same in-game content and shared servers; account linking is only needed if you want to use the same character and progress through both platforms.
Before you download: check your PC
AION 2’s Steam listing specifies Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, DirectX 12, broadband internet, and 100 GB of available storage. An SSD is recommended. The following are the current storefront requirements listed on Steam as accessed October 7, 2026; check the listing again before installing because requirements can change.

- Open the official AION 2 Steam listing and sign in to Steam if prompted.
- Use Steam’s install option on the game page and select an install location with at least 100 GB available.
- Wait for Steam to download and install the game, then launch AION 2 from your Steam library.
If you previously installed the separate AION 2 Steam Playtest app, the official notice says to uninstall that Playtest and download AION 2 separately for Advanced Access. This warning is about the old test app; it is not a reason to reinstall the current retail game. If you pre-downloaded files and they are encrypted until access opens, Steam says the client decrypts them when available; that process is not a reinstallation. Install AION 2 through PURPLE
- Go to NCSOFT’s official PURPLE download page and download the launcher for your Windows PC.
- Install PURPLE. NCSOFT’s installer instructions identify the downloaded installer as PurpleInstaller.
- Open PURPLE and sign in with the appropriate account.
- Select AION 2 in PURPLE and follow the launcher’s install prompts.
PURPLE’s screens and button labels may change, so follow the current prompts shown in the launcher rather than relying on older walkthroughs. The official starting point is the PURPLE download page.
Choose Steam or PURPLE
There is no gameplay-content advantage to choosing one launcher: the official global launch FAQ says both versions have the same in-game content and share servers. Choose based on the launcher you prefer and whether you want one character’s progress accessible through both platforms.

The official FAQ says you can play on Steam without linking a PURPLE account. Linking is needed only when you want to access the same character and progress on both platforms. Read the official AION 2 launch information for the FAQ and current platform details.

Supported platforms and availability
The global service officially supports Steam and PURPLE on Windows PC. The FAQ does not list Linux, Steam Deck, or controller use as officially supported, even if other devices or configurations may be playable. If you are installing outside Windows PC, do not assume that the official support and compatibility described for these routes apply.
Steam and PURPLE are the current global launch routes; regional pre-download dates announced for Korea and Taiwan in November 2025 are historical and do not set the global 2026 download schedule. Availability can also vary by country, so check the live Steam listing and PURPLE page for your region.

If the installation does not start
- Not enough space: Confirm that the selected drive has 100 GB available before starting the install.
- Old Playtest app: If the app is specifically the separate Steam Playtest, uninstall that test app and install the live AION 2 listing instead. Do not remove the retail game just because the Playtest notice mentions uninstalling.
- Preload appears locked: For pre-downloaded files, wait for access to open so Steam can decrypt the files; the official notice says decryption is not a reinstallation.
- Using the other launcher: If you want to move between Steam and PURPLE with the same character and progress, link the accounts. A Steam-only player does not need to link a PURPLE account.
