In OBS, a text source can read from a file that your music player or automation system updates. Keep the title in Unicode Tamil, use a Tamil-capable font on the machine rendering the overlay, and preview it at the stream’s final resolution. YouTube’s broadcast title describes the live video; it does not automatically change on screen for each track.
How the song title gets onto the stream
Your playback or automation system needs to provide the current track title, and your streaming layout needs to display it. OBS Project describes its text sources as tools to “add simple text renders to your stream or recording layout” in its Text Sources documentation. One straightforward setup is to have the player write the current title to a text file and configure an OBS text source to read that file. OBS documents the file-reading option; configuring the player or automation to update the file is a separate step specific to that software.

- Find the now-playing title. Identify where your player or automation system exposes the current track name. The exact integration depends on that software; YouTube’s API documentation does not establish a particular player integration.
- Send the title to a text file. Configure the playback system or a separate automation to replace the file’s contents when the track changes. Use a predictable file location that remains available to OBS while it is running.
- Add an OBS text source. In OBS, add a text source to the scene used for the stream and enable its option to read text from a file. Select the file that receives the current title.
- Position and style the label. Place it where it will not cover important visuals or fall outside the visible safe area. Choose a size and contrast that remain legible at the actual output resolution.
- Test changes, not just the first title. Preview several tracks and confirm the text updates, long titles fit, and a stream or OBS restart does not leave an obsolete title on screen.
If you use a browser-based or third-party overlay instead, check how it receives track changes, whether its rendering environment supports Tamil shaping and fonts, and how it handles track changes or restarts. The available documentation establishes OBS’s file-reading text-source option, not the behavior of particular third-party overlay services.

Pass the original title as Unicode Tamil rather than transliterating it to avoid font problems. Unicode says Tamil is supported in major desktop and mobile operating systems and browsers, but that does not guarantee that the computer or hosting environment rendering your overlay has a suitable font installed and selected. Noto Fonts lists Noto among Indic font resources; Noto Sans Tamil is a reasonable font to test. A system font such as Latha may also be available. Install or select the font on the machine that actually renders the text source, not only on the computer where you prepared the configuration.
Tamil’s main Unicode block is U+0B80–U+0BFF, with additional Tamil characters in the Tamil Supplement, U+11FC0–U+11FFF, as described in Unicode 18.0.0, Chapter 12. Some Tamil vowel signs, including U+0BC6, U+0BC7, and U+0BC8, are displayed to the left of the consonant they apply to. Keep the correct Unicode sequence and let the text-rendering system shape it; do not rearrange characters to imitate their visual placement.

Check the actual rendered output
- Preview titles containing Tamil vowel signs and other combinations representative of your playlist.
- Check titles that mix Tamil and Latin characters, punctuation, or numerals.
- Try long titles and confirm that wrapping, truncation, or scrolling behaves acceptably in your layout.
- Inspect the stream preview at the final output resolution for missing-glyph boxes, incorrect shaping, clipping, and poor contrast.
- Change tracks and restart the relevant software to verify that the overlay refreshes and does not retain an old title.
Why the YouTube broadcast title is not the track overlay
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes the broadcast from the stream carrying the video and audio. A broadcast has information such as its title, which describes the broadcast or video; that metadata is not a mechanism for adding each changing song name to the video image. The API overview and LiveBroadcasts reference describe these broadcast resources. To make a song title visible in the picture, include it in the visual content sent to YouTube, for example through an OBS text source.
Similarly, YouTube’s live-chat API concerns chat messages, not a music player’s now-playing metadata. Use the playback or automation system as the title source, then display that text in your layout.

Check music rights before running the stream
Displaying a track name does not grant permission to stream the recording. YouTube warns that third-party content identified in a live stream can lead to the stream being replaced with a placeholder image or stopped. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and check applicable YouTube Studio notices for the recordings you use. That platform guidance does not determine the legal status of a particular recording or its use in every territory.
