Show the actual offer price plainly, label the MRP and offer price separately, and make important conditions visible before viewers buy. Keep the live presentation consistent with the product listing and checkout. A video overlay or spoken pitch should not be assumed to meet separate ecommerce disclosure requirements.
Set the prices before you go live
Confirm the price viewers will actually pay and the terms that apply to it. The merchant determines the final price and purchase conditions for products promoted through YouTube Shopping, and is responsible for required consumer disclosures and compliance with applicable law. - MRP: If you show it, label it as MRP. In India, the Department of Consumer Affairs lists the retail sale price in the form of Maximum Retail Price (MRP), inclusive of all taxes, among declarations for covered pre-packaged commodities. See Legal Metrology.
- Offer price: Label the current selling price clearly and ensure it matches the merchant’s actual checkout price.
- Conditions: Identify material eligibility rules, offer duration, or purchase conditions where viewers can see or hear them before purchase.
Showing MRP beside a lower price is a practical way to distinguish the two amounts, not a statutory layout prescribed by the cited sources. Do not imply a saving based on an inaccurate comparison.

Use a simple, labelled graphic
For example: “MRP: ₹[amount] incl. all taxes” and “Offer price: ₹[amount]”. Replace the bracketed amounts with verified figures. Keep labels beside their amounts so viewers do not have to infer which is the current price. This is a presentation recommendation, not a legally mandated overlay format.

Put material conditions near the claim
If the price applies only to eligible buyers, a limited period, a particular payment method, or another condition, state that condition clearly in the graphic or explain it during the live presentation before viewers act. Do not rely on a tiny or remote disclaimer to fix a headline or spoken claim that would otherwise mislead.
Keep the listing and checkout aligned
YouTube says eligible merchants can connect a shop and tag products in live streams. Product information is displayed based on the countries of sale configured in Google Merchant Center. Check the product information and purchase terms on the connected shop or other checkout route against what the host says and the graphic displays.

Check the separate ecommerce disclosure
For covered Indian ecommerce sales, a live-video graphic or the host’s spoken words should not be treated as a substitute for required declarations on the relevant digital or electronic network. A Lok Sabha answer dated 3 December 2025 describes Rule 6(10) as requiring ecommerce entities to display specified declarations, including MRP, on that network. The answer does not establish that a live-video overlay alone fulfils the listing requirement. See the Lok Sabha answer.
Whether a particular electronics product is a covered pre-packaged commodity, which party has the relevant ecommerce duty, and what the applicable display obligation requires depend on the actual product and transaction. Confirm the current rules for the sale rather than assuming every item or YouTube surface is treated alike.

Make discount claims accurate
The Central Consumer Protection Authority’s Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisements and Endorsements for Misleading Advertisements, 2022, dated 9 June 2022, address misleading claims and material omissions. They state that a disclaimer must not hide material information or attempt to correct a misleading claim. Make the central price claim accurate on its own; use conditions to clarify an offer, not to contradict or rescue it. The Department of Consumer Affairs’ Annual Report 2022–23 also summarizes the guidelines.
Pre-live checklist
- Verify the MRP and current selling price against the product and checkout information.
- Label each amount so MRP cannot be confused with the offer price.
- Check that any saving implied by the comparison is accurate.
- State material eligibility, duration, and purchase conditions clearly before viewers buy.
- Confirm the applicable declarations appear on the relevant ecommerce listing surface; do not assume the video alone is enough.
- Check the selling country, packaged status, seller of record, and checkout route, and verify current legal requirements for that transaction.
