How to Display and Store a LEGO PlayStation Build Without Damaging It

Display the LEGO PlayStation 72306 indoors on a level, stable surface that stays dry, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, cigarette smoke and large temperature swings. An open shelf is easiest to access but leaves the model exposed; a display case or cabinet can reduce dust and accidental contact only when its internal dimensions provide clearance and ventilation. Dust the assembled model without taking it apart, and use LEGO’s hand-cleaning limits if individual pieces need deeper cleaning: water no hotter than 104°F (40°C), a soft cloth or sponge, and no dishwasher, washing machine or high-heat drying.

What you are protecting: the LEGO PlayStation 72306

The LEGO PlayStation 72306 is an adult-oriented display model with 1,911 pieces. The LEGO product information published in 2026 lists the assembled model as over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide and 19 cm deep. Those are the model’s published minimum envelope, not the amount of furniture space it needs. Leave additional room around every side so you can reach the model, remove dust, connect or disconnect features and lift it without squeezing delicate sections.

The console’s controller plugs into the console, and the game dioramas can be removed and displayed separately. Those movable features are useful when planning a case or cabinet: a box that barely clears the outside dimensions may prevent you from handling the plug or removing a diorama. The set was announced on 3 September 2026, with general purchase availability stated for 4 October 2026; actual availability and pricing depend on region and can change.

Published detail What it means for display and storage
1,911 pieces There are many joints, decorative elements and small detachable parts to protect from bumps and snagging.
Over 6 cm high Measure the full height, then add hand clearance above it; do not treat 6 cm as a recommended shelf gap.
26 cm wide Use at least this width as the starting point for an enclosure’s internal measurement, then add side clearance.
19 cm deep Check both the case depth and the room needed to bring the model in and out without scraping it.
Plug-in controller and removable dioramas Keep access to the connector and enough space to remove or reposition the dioramas.

Pick a location that slows fading and brittleness

LEGO’s official storage guidance says, “When it comes to storing your LEGO bricks, we always recommend that you store them somewhere that is dry and away from any heat source.” The same page cautions against direct sunlight and temperatures above 104°F (40°C), which may make bricks brittle or discolored over time. These are general brick-storage recommendations rather than a set-specific durability test, but they are the appropriate baseline for an assembled PlayStation model.

Keep the model out of direct sun

Do not place the build on a windowsill, in a sunroom or directly under a skylight. Sunlight can gradually alter LEGO colors. A room can feel comfortable while a sunlit surface becomes much hotter than the surrounding air, so use the position of the light at different times of day as your test. If the model must be near a window, place it on a wall perpendicular to the glass and use blinds or curtains to block direct rays; do not rely on a transparent case to filter ultraviolet light unless its maker explicitly documents that property.

Separate it from heat and rapid temperature changes

Keep the model away from radiators, heat registers, fireplaces, kitchen appliances, space heaters and the warm exhaust of electronics. Avoid locations that repeatedly move from hot to cold, such as an unheated garage, attic or porch. LEGO’s guidance specifically warns about temperatures over 104°F (40°C) and about temperature variation affecting color. No published lifespan or fading rate exists for this particular build, so treat prevention as the practical strategy rather than expecting a predictable number of years.

Limit smoke and airborne residue

LEGO’s color guidance identifies cigarette smoke as a factor that can gradually affect color. A smoke-free room also reduces the sticky residue that makes dust harder to remove. Keep the model away from candles, incense, cooking grease and workshops for the same practical reason: airborne deposits can settle into gaps and on textured surfaces.

Choose between an open shelf, a case and a cabinet

There is no verified, set-specific display case for the LEGO PlayStation 72306 in the available product information. Treat any enclosure as a generic accessory until you measure its internal dimensions and confirm that the model’s features remain usable. The table compares practical trade-offs, not results from a head-to-head test.

Display method Dust and contact Access and features Fit and environment Best when
Open shelf Most exposed to household dust and accidental knocks. Fastest access for dusting, plugging the controller and removing dioramas. No fit problem; the shelf still must be level, dry and away from heat and sunlight. You can place the model in a low-traffic room and will dust it regularly.
Measured display case Can reduce dust and casual contact, depending on how well it closes. Access is slower; tight doors or a narrow opening may interfere with the controller and removable dioramas. Internal width must exceed 26 cm, depth must exceed 19 cm and height must exceed 6 cm, with extra clearance for hands and cable movement. You want a visible barrier and can measure before buying.
Closed cabinet Can shield the model from dust and bumps better than an open shelf. Access depends on door opening and shelf depth; verify that the model can be lifted out without catching. The cabinet must remain dry, away from heat and out of direct sunlight; enclosed warmth is still a concern. You already have a stable cabinet with adequate space and a clean interior.

Measure an enclosure before you buy it

Start with the published envelope of over 26 cm wide × 19 cm deep × 6 cm high. Measure the inside of the case, not its outside marketing dimensions. Then add clearance on all sides for your hands, the controller lead and any removable diorama.

BrickSoul Light Kit for LEGO PlayStation 72306 Set, Lights Only
  • Light Accessories Only: BrickSoul LED light kit is designed for the LEGO PlayStation 72306 building set; lighting and touch-control components only are included, and the brick model is sold separately
  • Layered Retro Gaming Lighting: Color-changing illumination adds depth to the gray console and original-style controller while drawing attention to the disc lid, front controls and hidden diorama areas. The shifting accent color turns the near 1:1 display into a stronger game-room centerpiece without losing the clean retro-console look.
  • Touch Color-Changing Control: Use the touch area for power and color changes, then double-tap to cycle through multiple lighting effects. Press and hold to fine-tune pattern speed and brightness, from a steady retro-console glow to a more dynamic game-room scene.
  • Easy Installation with Online Guides: Numbered light packs, slim wiring, and online video and PDF instructions help keep installation clear and cable placement neat around the console and controller; power with the included battery box, a compatible power bank, or a 5V USB adapter; batteries not included
  • 1-Year Replacement Support: Made for retro gaming fans, collectors, and display builders who want to upgrade their 72306 console display; contact us through Amazon messages for installation help or product support
  1. Measure the assembled model. Use a ruler to check the widest, deepest and tallest points of your own build. “Over” in the official dimensions means your copy may occupy slightly more than the nominal figure.
  2. Mark an access margin. Add enough side and top room to grasp the base or a sturdy underside without touching fragile surface details. The exact margin depends on the enclosure opening and your handling method; do not assume a universal number.
  3. Check the door and opening. A case can have a large interior but a narrow front opening. Confirm that the model can pass through the opening while held securely.
  4. Check feature access. Make sure the controller can be plugged in and that the game dioramas can be removed if you intend to use those functions.
  5. Inspect the environment. Choose a case that does not trap the model beside a heat source or in direct sun. A closed box is not a substitute for a dry, temperature-stable room.

If a seller does not publish internal dimensions, ask for them or choose another enclosure. Do not call a generic case “compatible” solely because its listed external dimensions look larger than the LEGO measurements.

Prepare a shelf or cabinet safely

Use a level, rigid support

Set the model on a rigid shelf that does not bow when loaded. A level surface reduces the chance that the build slowly leans or that a removable section slides. Place it where people will not brush against it when walking past, opening a door or reaching for another item. Keep pets, small children and frequently handled objects away from the display zone.

Make the base easy to reach

Leave a clear path for both hands. When you need to move the model, support it from underneath rather than lifting a roof, controller, decorative panel or other small element. Do not pull on the controller cable or use a protruding detail as a handle.

Keep cords and accessories contained

If the controller is plugged in, route the cable so it does not hang where it can be snagged. If you display a removable diorama separately, keep it on a nearby stable surface with enough room for dusting. Small loose elements should not share a shelf edge where vibration can send them to the floor.

Dust an assembled build without taking it apart

LEGO’s FAQ says an assembled set can be dusted without disassembly. Routine dusting is preferable to repeatedly rebuilding the model, because every unnecessary separation is an opportunity to misplace a piece or stress a connection. Use gentle contact and support delicate sections as practical handling precautions; LEGO’s FAQ does not prescribe a particular brush or claim that one brush type is risk-free.

  1. Make the area safe. Turn off nearby fans that could blow dust into the model, clear objects from the shelf and wash and dry your hands.
  2. Support before touching. Place one hand near a sturdy lower section or the shelf beside the model so you can steady it without pressing on decorative details.
  3. Work from top to bottom. Use light strokes to move dust toward an accessible edge, rather than pushing it deeper into seams. A soft, clean brush or soft cloth can be used as a practical choice; stop if a part begins to flex.
  4. Handle detachable features separately. If you remove a diorama or unplug the controller, hold the piece by a robust base and set it on a clean, padded surface while dusting.
  5. Finish the shelf. Wipe the empty area around the model, then return each component to its original position. Do not drag the assembled build across the shelf.

How often you dust depends on the room. A visible film, fabric lint or dust gathering in gaps is a useful signal to clean; there is no published dust-accumulation interval for this set.

Deep-clean individual pieces with LEGO’s limits

For more than surface dust, LEGO recommends hand-cleaning pieces with water no hotter than 104°F (40°C) and a soft cloth or sponge. LEGO warns against washing pieces in a washing machine or dishwasher and against using an oven, microwave, hair dryer or other high heat to dry them. It also warns against direct sunlight while drying.

  1. Decide whether disassembly is necessary. Do not promise that the fully assembled model should be immersed or washed as a unit; the cited guidance addresses cleaning pieces, not soaking this particular assembled display.
  2. Photograph complex areas. Before removing parts, take reference photos of cable routing, diorama placement and any section whose orientation matters.
  3. Separate only what needs cleaning. Remove accessible pieces carefully and keep each group in a labeled tray or container. Avoid prying against thin decorative parts.
  4. Use lukewarm water only. Keep the water at or below 104°F (40°C). Use a soft cloth or sponge and gentle pressure; do not add a cleaning method that LEGO has not specified for these pieces.
  5. Rinse and air-dry away from sun. Let pieces dry naturally in a shaded, well-ventilated place. Do not use a dishwasher, washing machine, oven, microwave, hair dryer or direct sunlight to speed drying.
  6. Reassemble only when fully dry. Moisture trapped between connected pieces can be difficult to detect. Match parts to your photos and check that connections are seated without forcing them.

Printed, stickered or electronically featured elements deserve extra caution because the general hand-cleaning page does not provide separate instructions for every finish or feature. If a component is uncertain, use the least-invasive dry method and avoid soaking it.

Store the assembled model between displays

For short or long periods, use the same environmental rules as for display: a dry indoor location, no direct sunlight, no heat source and no extreme temperature swings. Keep the model on a level support where it cannot be crushed by boxes or bumped by stored objects. Do not place heavy items on top of a case, cabinet or storage bin that contains the build.

If the model is in a cabinet, leave enough room to inspect it without scraping the sides. If you use a removable cover, check periodically that condensation, dust or trapped heat is not accumulating inside. A cover that seals in moisture is counterproductive in a damp room.

Move the build without a set-specific packing claim

The reviewed LEGO sources do not publish a tested wrapping or shipping method for this particular PlayStation model. The following is common-sense handling advice, not a LEGO-prescribed packing procedure.

  1. Clear the route. Open doors, remove obstacles and prepare the destination before lifting the model.
  2. Detach small display elements. Remove the controller, removable dioramas and other pieces that can come loose during handling. Keep them together in a separate rigid container.
  3. Support the main structure. Use both hands under sturdy lower sections or the base. Avoid lifting by the controller, roof, thin panels or decorative projections.
  4. Cushion without pressure. If you must place the model in a box, surround it with clean, non-abrasive cushioning that prevents shifting but does not compress the build. Do not let loose packing material rub against exposed details.
  5. Keep orientation stable. Transport the box level and avoid stacking anything on it. Minimize stops and impacts.
  6. Reassemble at the destination. Check the main structure for shifted connections before reinstalling detachable pieces, then return the model to a dry, shaded display position.

For a long-distance move, disassembling into documented sections may be safer than transporting a fully assembled model, but the official sources do not specify how many sections to make or guarantee an outcome. Photograph first and label every container if you choose that approach.

Recognize and fix common display problems

Dust returns quickly

Move the model away from fabrics, open windows, fans and high-traffic paths. Dust the surrounding shelf as well as the build. A case or cabinet may reduce exposure, but it still needs cleaning and must remain dry.

Colors look different near a window

Relocate the build out of direct sunlight and reduce exposure to cigarette smoke and large temperature changes. LEGO identifies these factors as capable of gradually affecting color; there is no published restoration method or fading-rate statistic for this model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A case door touches the model

Stop using the enclosure until you verify internal width, depth, height and opening clearance. Repositioning the model to force a fit can bend or detach parts. Choose a larger case or an open shelf rather than removing features solely to fit a tight box.

The controller or diorama is difficult to access

Rearrange the display so the plug and removable diorama have a clear path. A case that protects the exterior but prevents normal handling may be unsuitable for a model whose features are designed to connect and separate.

A piece becomes loose during dusting

Stop, place the piece in a labeled container and consult your build instructions or photos before continuing. Support the model from below and use less pressure. Do not shake the build to make dust fall out.

A practical maintenance checklist

  • Display indoors on a level, rigid surface.
  • Keep the model dry and away from heat sources.
  • Block direct sunlight; avoid rooms with major temperature swings.
  • Keep cigarette smoke, cooking residue and workshop dust away.
  • Measure the model and the enclosure’s internal opening before buying a case.
  • Leave access for the controller plug, removable dioramas and both hands.
  • Dust the assembled set gently without disassembly when surface dust is the only problem.
  • For individual pieces, use hand cleaning with water no hotter than 104°F (40°C) and a soft cloth or sponge.
  • Never use a washing machine, dishwasher, oven, microwave or hair dryer on the pieces, and do not dry them in direct sunlight.
  • For moving, treat any wrapping method as practical advice rather than a LEGO-tested procedure; remove detachable elements and support the main model underneath.

The safest default is a shaded, temperature-stable shelf with enough room to handle the build. Add a measured case or cabinet when reducing dust and accidental contact matters more than instant access, while preserving clearance for the PlayStation model’s controller and removable dioramas.
