Do not plan a case around the box dimensions or the taller figure alone. Measure from the lowest point of the base to the highest leaf, branch or accessory, then add clearance so that no detail touches the panels. If you later rebuild the set, repeat the measurement rather than assuming the existing enclosure will fit.
Why sunlight and heat are the main risks
LEGO’s storage guidance says, “It’s best not to store them in direct sunlight, or where the temperature exceeds 104° F (40° C) as this may cause bricks to become brittle or discolor over time.” This is general care guidance, not a promised service life for set 77092, but it is the safest rule for an assembled display model. Sun through a window can heat a dark display surface considerably, even when the surrounding room feels comfortable. A windowsill, conservatory, loft, radiator shelf or cabinet beside a heater therefore creates two hazards at once: ultraviolet and visible light exposure, plus elevated temperature. Repeated heating and cooling can also stress a model that is already carrying the weight of branches and decorative elements.

The practical conclusion is preventive: choose a shaded interior position first, then use a case to manage dust. A case should not be treated as permission to put the model in direct sun.
Choose a stable display location
Prefer indirect light
Place the model where daylight is reflected or filtered rather than falling directly on the bricks. A wall opposite a window, an interior bookcase, or a room with adjustable blinds is easier to manage than a bright sill. If the room changes use during the day, observe it at morning, noon and late afternoon; a spot that looks shaded at breakfast may receive a strong beam later.
Keep heat sources away
Leave space from radiators, HVAC outlets, fireplaces, lamps that become hot, kitchen appliances and warm electronics. Do not use the top of a television, amplifier or computer tower as a pedestal. Avoid enclosed locations that trap heat, such as a sealed cabinet directly above a radiator.

Control the room, not just the model
Normal, comfortable indoor conditions are preferable to a damp basement, steamy bathroom or unheated shed. A case can keep airborne dust off surfaces, but it does not correct a hot, humid or sunny room. Solve the location problem before buying display accessories.
Open display or enclosed case?
Both approaches can work. The choice depends on how often you handle the model, how dusty the room is and whether you can provide the required clearance.

A specialist retailer lists a case made for the exact 77092 model at this 77092 display-case listing. The seller describes it as “UV Protected & Dust Proof.” Those words describe the seller’s marketing, not an independently verified performance result. The available information does not provide a UV-transmission test report, a guaranteed dust-seal rating or dimensions that prove compatibility with every custom base or modified build.
What “UV protected” should mean before you rely on it
A useful product specification should identify the panel material, the ultraviolet wavelength range covered, the percentage transmitted or blocked, and the test method. A statement that a case is “UV protected” without those details does not tell you how much radiation reaches the model. It also does not address heat from visible light or a warm room.

Ask the seller for internal dimensions as well as external dimensions. Request the same information for any replacement lid or base panel, because a case can be described as fitting 77092 while still assuming an unmodified display plate. If the seller cannot provide measurable UV data, use the case for dust and contact protection only, and continue to keep it away from direct sun.
How to measure for a case before ordering
Measure the completed display, not an online photograph. Perform the check for the version you will actually keep assembled.
- Measure total height. Place the model on its final base and measure to the highest fixed element. Include leaves, branches, weapons, figures and any decorative piece that projects upward.
- Measure the full footprint. Record the greatest front-to-back and side-to-side dimensions of the base and every overhanging detail. A branch that extends beyond the base still needs to fit inside the case.
- Add clearance. Leave room above and around the model so branches do not touch acrylic or glass. Clearance also gives you space to lift the case off without catching details.
- Check the base interface. Confirm whether the case accepts your original LEGO base, a display plate or a custom plinth. A case sold for the set may assume a particular base arrangement.
- Plan access. Look for a removable top or front panel that lets you assemble, rebuild and dust the model without forcing your hands through a narrow opening.
- Check the furniture load and dimensions. Add the model, base and case weights, then compare the total with the shelf’s stated capacity. Verify doorways, shelf depth and ceiling clearance before delivery.
- Ask for specifications that matter. If UV protection is important, request the material, wavelength range, transmission or blocking percentage, and test method. Without those details, regard “UV protected” as unverified.
Do not seal a case tightly around a warm lamp or sunny window. The enclosure can reduce dust while still allowing the interior to heat, so the location rule remains decisive.

Dust-control routine for an open or enclosed display
Weekly or fortnightly light dusting
Set a schedule based on how quickly dust appears in your room. Use a clean, soft artist’s brush, makeup brush reserved for this purpose, or a bulb-style air blower to lift loose particles. Work from higher branches toward the base so dislodged dust falls onto areas you have not yet cleaned. Hold the model by a broad, sturdy section of the base rather than by leaves, clips or thin branches.
For an enclosed case, wipe the outside panels with a suitable clean microfiber cloth according to the panel manufacturer’s instructions. Open the case before dusting the LEGO so particles are not merely moved around inside. Never press a cloth hard against a delicate attachment.
When a deeper clean is necessary
LEGO’s published cleaning instruction is for LEGO pieces generally: “We recommend that you clean your LEGO pieces by hand using water no hotter than 104°F / 40°C and a soft cloth or sponge.” The same guidance says not to use a washing machine or dishwasher, and not to dry pieces with an oven, microwave or hair dryer. Those instructions do not amount to a specific test of washing a fully assembled 2,500-piece display tree. Avoid soaking the complete model: water can remain inside enclosed sections, migrate into stickers or printed details, and make a heavy assembly harder to handle. If a part truly needs washing, remove it only when you can identify its position and safely rebuild the surrounding area. Clean loose parts by hand, rinse carefully and let them air-dry indoors away from heat and sunlight before reinstalling them.
What to avoid
- Do not vacuum directly over the model; suction can pull off small parts.
- Do not use compressed air at high pressure, which can drive dust into gaps or launch elements across the room.
- Do not apply household polish, solvent, disinfectant or abrasive cleaner to LEGO elements or transparent panels unless the relevant manufacturer specifically approves it.
- Do not rotate or carry the model by its canopy, trunk decorations or other narrow sections.
A setup procedure that minimizes damage
- Finish the build on its final base. Rebuilding on a temporary surface and then lifting the tree can stress connections.
- Inspect every connection. Check that branches, leaves, figures and accessories are seated before moving the model.
- Photograph the completed version. Take front, rear and top views. These images provide a reference if you must remove a piece for cleaning or repair.
- Move the furniture first. Position and level the shelf or cabinet before lifting the model into place.
- Use two people for a large move. One person should support the base while the other steadies the upper structure. Keep the model upright.
- Install the case around the model. If the enclosure is assembled separately, lower or slide it into place without dragging panels across the LEGO.
- Check the display after one day. Look for contact between parts and panels, unexpected warmth, condensation or a leaning base. Correct the cause immediately.
Switching between the two 77092 versions
The set is designed to be rebuilt, so changing from the Ocarina of Time version to the Breath of the Wild version is part of its intended use. Before disassembly, clear a large, well-lit work area and use trays or labeled containers for parts that will be removed together. Keep the instruction manual for the chosen version nearby and use the photographs you made during setup.

Seasonal and routine checks
Inspect the display when the heating or cooling season changes. A location that was safe in winter may receive stronger afternoon sun in summer, while a heater that is off for months may become an unexpected heat source later. Check the shelf, case seams, base and upper branches for dust, warmth, condensation or parts resting against a panel.

Keep a simple record of the assembled version and its measurements. This is especially useful if you alternate between the two builds or move homes. Photographing the case interior with a ruler beside the base can also make future fit checks faster. If a case is replaced, verify its current dimensions and material claims rather than assuming a newer listing is identical to an earlier one.

Dust returns quickly
Check whether the case door, lid or panel seams leave visible gaps, and inspect nearby vents, rugs and fabrics that generate airborne fibers. Improve the room’s dust control and clean the case surfaces; do not compensate by applying pressure to the LEGO.
A panel touches a branch
Stop closing the enclosure. Re-measure the model, including the base and the highest protrusion, then compare those measurements with the case’s internal—not external—dimensions. If the build has been modified, an exact-set case may no longer fit.
Bricks appear faded or the case feels hot
Move the display to a shaded, cooler location immediately and block the direct light source. A “UV protected” description does not establish that direct sun is safe. Inspect whether a lamp, radiator, window or poorly ventilated cabinet is adding heat.
A piece loosens during dusting
Stop brushing, support the surrounding structure and use your reference photographs or instructions to identify the connection. Do not pull on neighboring branches to reach the loose element. Re-seat the piece only after the model is stable.
