The difficult part is not displaying the image: it is securing permission for each recording and its underlying music and lyrics, then arranging Content ID allowlisting with the relevant rights owner. A licensed track can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted.
What you need for an album-art music stream
- A visual you may use: album artwork or other imagery for which you have permission.
- Music rights: permissions appropriate to the recordings and underlying musical and literary works, for the intended online live use and territories, plus any replay or archive you plan to make available.
- A production path: a live encoder workflow can provide more customization and control than a simple mobile or webcam stream. YouTube for Artists does not prescribe a particular album-art application or encoder.
- Long-run operations: a way to monitor the stream and respond if it stops. The official sources cited here do not establish a guaranteed 24/7 uptime or a complete recovery, power, or network design.
Build the album-art scene and prepare the stream
- Choose the artwork. Use art you created, licensed, or otherwise have the right to display. Permission to play a recording does not automatically establish permission to use its cover art.
- Make the artwork the outgoing visual. In your chosen live production workflow, add the still image as the video scene and pair that scene with the music. The image can remain on screen while the audio plays. The sources here do not specify exact software steps or settings, so consult the documentation for the encoder you choose rather than assuming a particular menu or control.
- Choose how to send the live feed. YouTube for Artists describes an encoder as offering greater customization and control. It does not endorse a specific device, app, bitrate, resolution, or keyframe setting for this use.
- Set up the YouTube live stream. Create the stream in YouTube Studio and connect your production setup using the stream details YouTube provides. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Test before committing to a long run. YouTube for Artists recommends testing an unlisted stream. Confirm that the artwork appears, the music is audible, and the feed reaches YouTube before scheduling a public broadcast.
- Plan monitoring and recovery. A 24/7 schedule needs an operator or an arrangement to notice interruptions and restart or repair the production path. YouTube’s cited guidance does not promise that any encoder or connection will remain live continuously.
Clear the music rights before going live
Treat rights clearance as a separate task from setting up the picture and audio. For every playlist track, identify the sound recording and the underlying composition and lyrics, along with the relevant rights owners or authorized representatives. Confirm that the permissions cover online live streaming in the intended territories and any replay or archive. YouTube for Artists advises creators to coordinate with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may show a placeholder image, warn the streamer, interrupt the stream, or terminate it if the content remains. YouTube’s instruction for licensed material is: “If you’ve licensed third-party content to use in your stream, ask the owner of the content to add your channel to their allowlist through Content ID.” A licence alone may not prevent a live interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted.

Keep these outcomes distinct: a live interruption, a Content ID claim on an archived stream, a copyright strike, and a disagreement about what a contract permits are not interchangeable. YouTube says an archived live stream may receive a Content ID claim after the stream ends.

For Indian songs and channels
The Copyright Act, 1957 defines “communication to the public” broadly, including making a work available for the public to hear or enjoy, and defines broadcast to include communication by wireless diffusion or wire. These definitions explain why making music available to viewers matters; they do not determine which permissions a particular channel or song catalog needs.
The Copyright Rules include procedures for statutory licensing of broadcasts under section 31D, including notice and royalty provisions. That fact alone does not establish that a particular YouTube livestream is covered or that all relevant rights are cleared. For a catalog-specific decision, consult the relevant rights owners and an India-qualified music-rights professional.
