How do I turn off the water to my Samsung refrigerator?
Find the shutoff valve for the refrigerator’s supply line. Samsung says it may be behind the fridge or under the sink. Close the valve before loosening the line; if you are not sure which valve feeds the refrigerator, do not proceed until you identify it.

- Lay towels on the floor beneath the connection.
- Set a bowl or bucket under the fitting to catch water left in the tubing.
- Have pliers available if the refrigerator has the copper line and compression fitting described in Samsung’s instructions. The plastic connector method is a hand operation.
Even after the supply is off, water remaining in the line can drain when it is released. Keep the towels and container in place until the flow stops.

How do I disconnect the water line from my Samsung fridge?
First identify the connection at the back of the refrigerator. Samsung’s general moving instructions cover plastic and copper supply lines, which use different release methods. Do not choose a method based only on how a connector from another model looks.
Plastic line with a push connector
For the plastic connector in its general guidance, Samsung says to push both ends of the connector together to release it. Catch the draining water in the bowl or bucket. Do not pull or force a connector whose release mechanism is unclear; check the manual for your exact model.

Copper line with a compression fitting
Samsung’s instructions say to use pliers to unscrew the copper line from the compression fitting. Work over the container and stop if the fitting will not loosen or appears damaged. The guidance does not specify a particular plier design or size.

A separate Samsung procedure for removing doors on covered side-by-side models describes holding down the transparent coupler while detaching the water hose. That door-removal procedure is not interchangeable with the general rear supply-line steps. Samsung warns, “Do not apply excessive force to the coupler, as it may break.” See the Samsung door-removal and water-hose guidance and follow the instructions for your model.

What should I do after the line is disconnected?
Let the water remaining in the tubing drain into the container. Samsung recommends taping the loose hose to the back of the refrigerator so it stays out of the way while the appliance is moved. Keep the shutoff valve closed if the refrigerator will remain disconnected.

Samsung notes that installation procedures vary by model and directs owners to the refrigerator’s user manual. The number and placement of lines, as well as the connector and release steps, cannot be determined without the model. Find the manual through Samsung’s water-line installation guidance, which also emphasizes model-specific instructions.

Stop if you cannot identify or close the shutoff valve, if the fitting is unfamiliar, or if any part looks damaged. Consult the manual or an appropriately qualified technician rather than forcing the connection. Samsung’s water-supply installation guidance discusses fittings and leak checks for installation; use the model-specific instructions if you later reconnect or replace the line.
