The menu is different on Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, Motorola, and other Android phones; a normal single press should still wake or lock the screen.
Google Pixel
- Open Settings.
- Tap System, then Gestures.
- Tap Double press power button.
- Turn off Use double press.
Google documents this gesture as a way to launch Camera or Wallet, with Camera selected by default on supported Pixel phones. You can select Wallet instead if you want to keep the shortcut without opening the camera. See Google’s Pixel gesture instructions.
Samsung Galaxy
- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features.
- Tap Side button.
- Tap Double press.
- Turn off the toggle, or select another available action instead of Camera.
Depending on the Galaxy model, region, carrier, and One UI version, Samsung may offer alternatives including Wallet, flashlight, magnifier, voice recorder, Samsung Notes, Samsung Capture, Modes and Routines, or another app. Current Galaxy support pages use Side button; older phones may call the control Side key, Quick launch, Quick launch camera, or Bixby key. Check Samsung’s Side button guide, recent Galaxy camera instructions, and A-series instructions.
Motorola
- Open Settings.
- Tap Gestures.
- Tap Power key or Double press power key.
- Tap Double press.
- Select No action or None.
Motorola uses both menu labels across models and software releases. Some phones also let you assign a voice command or another supported action. Refer to Motorola’s gesture documentation, alternate Power key instructions, and power-key behavior notes.

Other Android phones
There is no universal Android switch. Identify the phone under Settings > About phone, then use Settings search for:
- Double press
- Power key
- Side button or Side key
- Quick launch
- Camera shortcut
Also check Gestures, Buttons, Advanced features, and Motions and gestures. Manufacturers can move or rename the control after software updates, and some models do not provide an off switch.

Single press, double press, and long press are different
- Single press: normally wakes or locks the screen.
- Double press: commonly launches Camera, but may be disabled or assigned to another action.
- Long press: may show the power menu or launch Gemini, Google Assistant, Bixby, or another assistant.
- Power plus volume: may be required for power controls when long press has been remapped.
Changing the double-press setting should not stop ordinary screen locking or waking.
If the camera still opens
- Search Settings for double press, side button, power key, or quick launch, and confirm the action is off or set to No action.
- Lock the phone and test one deliberate press, then two deliberate presses. A case or tight grip can produce an unintended double press.
- Check the lock screen separately. A camera icon or swipe gesture there is independent of the power-button shortcut.
- Restart the phone and install pending system updates if the menu or behavior changed recently.
- Temporarily test in Safe Mode if an automation, accessibility, or button-remapping app may be intercepting presses.
- If the camera launches even though the manufacturer setting is disabled, contact the phone maker with the exact model and software version.
Older phones, foldables, dedicated programmable keys, and carrier-specific software can expose additional controls. A third-party remapper is not needed for the normal manufacturer-supported method.

Camera access is not removed
Disabling the shortcut only changes that button gesture. You can still open Camera from the app drawer, home screen, or a lock-screen shortcut if your phone provides one. Samsung describes these access methods separately from Side button settings.
Power-menu alternatives
Long-press behavior is separate from the camera shortcut. Motorola says some phones use Power + Volume Up for power controls when long press is assigned elsewhere. Samsung commonly provides a Quick Settings power icon and, on many newer Galaxy devices, Side button + Volume Down; exact behavior varies by model and software. Restore the shortcut later
Return to the same manufacturer menu and re-enable Use double press, choose Camera, or select the camera action from the available list. This restores the shortcut without reinstalling or changing the Camera app.
