Disable JavaScript before navigation
setJavaScriptEnabled() is a method on Puppeteer’s Page object. Pass false before the navigation you want to run without page JavaScript:

await page.goto('https://example.com');The setting takes full effect on the next navigation. If you call it after a page has loaded, scripts that already ran are not undone. See the Puppeteer API reference for Page.setJavaScriptEnabled().
Complete example
This ES module launches Puppeteer, creates a page, disables JavaScript, navigates, checks the configured setting, and closes the browser even if an error occurs:

}Install Puppeteer in your project if it is not already present, then run this code in an environment configured for ES modules. The await on isJavaScriptEnabled() is appropriate because the method returns a promise. Its boolean reports the page’s configured JavaScript state; it does not establish that every site feature works without JavaScript. See Page.isJavaScriptEnabled().
Apply the setting to the pages you control
The setting belongs to an individual Page. Do not assume disabling JavaScript on one page also configures every other page or popup. For predictable results, apply and, if useful, verify the setting on each page your automation controls. Puppeteer documents that a popup opened by a page belongs to its parent’s browser context, but that does not establish automatic propagation of this page-level setting. Common problems and fixes
- JavaScript seems to have run already: move
await page.setJavaScriptEnabled(false)before the navigation. The API only takes full effect on the next navigation. - The verification says
true: check that you passedfalseon the samePagebeing inspected, and await the call.isJavaScriptEnabled()reports that page’s configured state. - A popup or another tab still runs scripts: configure the setting on that page as well rather than assuming it inherits the original page’s setting.
- The browser behaves unexpectedly after an upgrade or when connecting to a separate browser: check the supported-browser matrix for the Puppeteer version installed in the project. Puppeteer’s current supported-browser table, retrieved October 3, 2026, lists Puppeteer v25.12.0 with Chrome for Testing 154.0.8037.57 and Firefox 156.0.1; these mappings are version-specific, not a promise that another installed version uses the same browsers. Browser and protocol compatibility
Puppeteer documents Page.setJavaScriptEnabled() and Page.isJavaScriptEnabled() among its WebDriver BiDi support. Check the browser mapping against your installed Puppeteer release, particularly when using a non-bundled browser. See Puppeteer WebDriver BiDi support and the supported-browser table.
