To turn off a Gemini extension, use Google’s Connected Apps control. On the web, open Settings & help → Connected Apps at gemini.google.com; if that menu is missing, open Personal Intelligence → Connected Apps. In the mobile app, open your profile menu, choose Connected Apps (or Personal Intelligence first), switch off the individual app, and follow any prompts. The setting disconnects that service going forward; it does not erase existing Gemini activity or data stored by the other service.
What Google now calls “extensions”
Many people still search for “Gemini extensions,” but Google’s current settings label for these integrations is Connected Apps. A connected app lets Gemini use information or perform actions through an eligible Google service. The available list is not identical for every account: Google says it can vary with the Gemini app, device, country, account type and feature rollout.

Depending on eligibility, Connected Apps may include contacts, Google Photos, Google Wallet in the United States, Google Workspace, search services and YouTube. Seeing one service in Gemini does not mean every user has the same service, permissions or controls. An app can also disappear temporarily when Google changes availability or an administrator changes a policy.
Disconnect one app in Gemini on a computer
- Open gemini.google.com and sign in to the Google account that uses Gemini.
- At the bottom of the Gemini page, select Settings & help.
- Select Connected Apps. If it is not listed, select Personal Intelligence, then choose Connected Apps.
- Find the service you no longer want Gemini to use.
- Switch that app’s toggle off.
- Complete any confirmation or other on-screen instructions.
This is an app-by-app control. Turning off one entry does not automatically disable every other connected service, Gemini chat memory, public information from Google Search, or account activity.

Disconnect an app in the Gemini mobile app
- Open the Gemini app on your phone or tablet.
- Open the profile menu.
- Choose Connected Apps. If that choice is not visible, open Personal Intelligence first and then select Connected Apps.
- Locate the app you want to disconnect and switch its toggle off.
- Follow any instructions that appear after the change.
Google’s current Android help describes the profile-menu route. iOS and Android can show different labels or a different app list, so use the closest matching menu in the version installed on your device. If you cannot find the control, update Gemini, verify that you are in the intended account, and check the Personal Intelligence menu rather than assuming the integration is unavailable.
What changes after you switch an app off
Turning off a Connected App prevents Gemini from obtaining new information through that particular connection unless you turn it back on. It is a forward-looking permission change, not a complete deletion command.

Does disconnecting an app delete Gemini activity?
No. Google says disconnecting an app, or deleting data in that connected service, does not delete Gemini Apps Activity. If an earlier prompt, response or attachment contains information you want removed from Gemini’s history, manage or delete the relevant Gemini activity separately using the account’s activity controls.
The connected service has its own retention rules. Removing a message, photo, contact or document in that service is a separate action, and Google notes that changes there can take days to affect the Gemini experience. Disconnecting the integration therefore should not be presented as a way to erase copies, logs or content already held elsewhere.
How to stop Gemini from accessing Gmail, Photos or YouTube
Gmail and other Workspace content
Google’s current category is generally Google Workspace, rather than a guaranteed Gmail-specific switch. If Workspace appears in Connected Apps, switch off that entry to stop the connection that covers the eligible Workspace content shown for your account. If no Workspace entry appears, Gemini may not have that integration on the current account, device or rollout.

Turning off Workspace does not delete mail, files or calendar data in Google’s services, and it does not remove information already displayed in a Gemini conversation. Delete the underlying service data and Gemini activity separately when removal is required.
Google Photos
Photos can appear as an eligible Connected App, but Google does not make it available to every user or location. Disable the Google Photos entry if it is listed. The switch controls Gemini’s future connection; it does not delete the photographs in Photos or erase a prior chat that referenced them.

YouTube
YouTube can appear in Connected Apps, while Gemini also uses public information from YouTube in some experiences. Disabling a personal Connected App should not be described as disabling all YouTube-related answers. Google says Gemini automatically uses public information from Google Search, Google Flights, Google Hotels, Google Maps and YouTube, and says it does not access personal information or content in those services without permission.
Connected Apps versus Personal Intelligence
These labels are related but operate at different levels. Connected Apps is where you grant or revoke access for a particular service. Personal Intelligence is the personalization area that can combine eligible connected services with Gemini chat memory and your instructions.
Inside an individual chat, turning Personal Intelligence off stops that conversation from using those personalization sources. It does not make the conversation automatically private from account history: Google documents Temporary chat as the option for a chat that should not be saved to Gemini Apps Activity.

If your goal is only to prevent one service from supplying information, switch off that service in Connected Apps. If your goal is to prevent personalization in one conversation, use the chat-level Personal Intelligence control. If your goal is to avoid saving that conversation, choose Temporary chat where the option is offered.

Keep Activity is broader than an individual app toggle. Google says Connected Apps are unavailable when Keep Activity is off on Gemini web, iOS and smart watches. Android can still retain certain device-assistance apps, so the result is not identical across platforms.
Use this setting only when you understand its account-wide effect. Turning Keep Activity off is not necessary merely to disconnect Photos, Workspace or another single entry. Conversely, switching off one Connected App will not reproduce all of the retention and availability changes caused by Keep Activity.
Work and school accounts
A Google Workspace administrator can enable or disable access to connected apps. This means a work or school account may show fewer entries, refuse a toggle change, or lose access after an administrator changes policy.
If an app is disabled after a chat has started, Google says you can still view and continue that chat, but Gemini will not receive further information from the connected service unless access is enabled again. Existing conversation text is therefore different from obtaining new data. Contact the organization’s administrator when the setting is locked or the required app is missing; changing a personal account’s settings will not override an organization policy.

Troubleshooting when Connected Apps is missing
The menu is not where the instructions say
- On the web, check Settings & help at the bottom of Gemini, then open Personal Intelligence if Connected Apps is not directly listed.
- On mobile, open the profile menu and check Personal Intelligence when Connected Apps is absent.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the account whose Gemini connections you want to change.
- Look for platform-specific wording; Google changes labels as features roll out.
The app is not listed
The absence of an entry does not prove that Gemini can access it. Google says the available apps vary by app, device and other factors. The service may not be supported for your country, account type or release, or an administrator may have disabled it. There is no universal switch that reveals every integration.
The toggle will not stay off
Complete every confirmation prompt, then reopen Connected Apps to verify the status. If the account is managed by a school or employer, an administrator policy may be controlling the setting. On a personal account, sign out and back in, install the current Gemini release and try the same menu again; do not infer from a stale screen that the connection remains active.
Gemini still answers about the service
Disconnecting a personal integration does not remove public web information. Gemini may still answer from publicly available material, including public information from Search, Flights, Hotels, Maps or YouTube. It may also refer to text already present in an existing conversation. Check whether the answer is based on public information or old chat content rather than assuming the app toggle failed.
Old data continues to appear
Changes in the connected service can take days to affect Gemini, according to Google. Delete the relevant Gemini Apps Activity if the problem is an old prompt or response, and separately manage the source service if its data must be removed. These are independent retention systems.

- Identify the exact service involved: Workspace, Photos, YouTube, Contacts, Wallet or another entry visible in your account.
- Disable only that app in Connected Apps, then complete the on-screen instructions.
- Review the conversation that used the integration. If it contains information you no longer want retained, delete the applicable Gemini activity.
- Manage the source service separately if its underlying mail, photo, contact, document or other content must be deleted.
- For a future conversation that should not use personalization, turn off Personal Intelligence for that chat; for a conversation that should not be saved, use Temporary chat when available.
- Use Keep Activity only if you intentionally want its broader account and platform effects.
This sequence separates access revocation, conversation history and source-service deletion. Treating them as one switch is the most common reason a user believes a disconnection did not work.
What the Connected Apps switch cannot do
- It cannot delete Gemini Apps Activity or rewrite an earlier chat.
- It cannot delete content held by the connected Google service.
- It cannot disable all personalization, chat memory or user instructions by itself.
- It cannot remove public information that Gemini can obtain from Google services.
- It cannot override a Workspace administrator’s policy.
- It cannot guarantee identical behavior on web, Android, iOS or smart watches because availability differs by platform.
Before you finish: a verification checklist
- You changed the toggle for the intended Google account.
- The specific app now shows as off in Connected Apps.
- You completed any confirmation or permission prompts.
- You know whether the app was an individual service or a broader category such as Google Workspace.
- You deleted Gemini activity separately if an earlier chat must be removed.
- You managed the source service separately if its stored content must be deleted.
- You checked for an administrator policy when using a work or school account.
- You did not mistake a public-information answer for renewed access to private account content.
Why the labels and app list may change
Google’s menus, rollout status and supported integrations are changeable. The same account can show different controls on a computer and phone, and two users in different countries can see different entries. The reliable principle is to find Connected Apps under Settings & help on the web or under the mobile profile menu, with Personal Intelligence as the possible intermediate menu.
If the wording in your app differs, follow the function rather than an outdated screenshot: locate the integration list, select the service, switch it off and finish the prompts. Recheck the list afterward so you know the change was applied to the account and platform you intended.

Gemini extensions are currently managed as Connected Apps. Disable an individual service from the web Settings & help menu or the mobile profile menu, using Personal Intelligence as an alternate path. That revokes future access through the selected connection, but deleting prior Gemini activity, deleting data in the source service, disabling chat personalization and changing account-wide retention each require separate controls.
